Hit impacts change when using a Special Upgraded weapon.

Perform a Special Upgrade by selecting both a weapon that's already been upgraded with a jewel and an Upgrade Stone.

  • A Special Upgrade allows one to greatly enhance a weapon with either Critical Hit Damage or Min and Max Damage.
  • To perform a Special Upgrade, you must have a weapon that has all 5 Upgrades and a Gem Upgrade.
  • To upgrade you need to use one Red Upgrade Stone or Blue Upgrade Stone.
    • If you upgrade with a Red Upgrade Stone, the weapon will become an R Type. Using a Blue Upgrade Stone will cause it to become an S Type. Make your choice carefully, as the upgrade type may not be changed once it is applied.
      • R Types focuses on Critical Damage, stacking with critical damage from skills: (Critical Damage Skill % + Upgrade %).
      • S Types focuses on flat damage that's appropriate for the weapon type, such as Min and Max Damage.
  • The upgrade process will cost 30,000 gold per attempt for upgrades 1 through 3 and 50,000 gold per attempt for upgrades 4 through 6.
  • Once the process is complete, your weapon will be personalized, allowing it to be stored in your Special Inventory.
  • The first upgrade success rate is 100%, 2~3 is a 50%, and 4~6 have a 45% success rate.
    • Failing an upgrade will not bring its durability down, but instead lower the upgrade level by 1.
    • It is possible to lower the upgrade even below upgrade 1, but the weapon will still be of the same type and bound to the player.
    • The maximum upgrade level is 7.
      • An item is destroyed if it fails upgrading from 5 to 6 and 6 to 7
        • A destroyed item cannot be restored; it is lost forever.
  • At the first two upgrades, the weapon will emit a small, hardly-noticeable glow. At the third and sixth upgrade, the glow's effect increases.
    • In addition to this glow, your attacks will emit a glow of the color of your upgrade type.
      • This effect occurs even when the attack used is not related to weapon. (e.g.: Magic with swords.)
        • Effect is only player-sided. Others will not see this effect.
      • Broken weapons stop glowing until they are repaired.
  • Bows, Control Bars, Crossbows, Dual Guns, Instruments, Chain Blades, and Knuckles are considered two-handed weapons.
  • An S-type upgrade can give you a higher maximum critical damage than an R-type of the same level until:
    • Max Damage > (S-type Bonus / R-type bonus) * (100 + Critical Rank Bonus)
    • Example: for a +3R Claymore to have a higher maximum critical damage than a +3S Claymore at rank 5 Critical Hit, the max damage with the sword must be greater than (21 / 26) * (100 + 110)=169.6.
  • An S-type upgrade will give you higher maximum damage across 10 hits (assuming 30% critical rate) than an R-type of the same level until:
    • Max Damage > ((S-type Bonus) * (700 + 3 * (100 + Critical Rank Bonus))) / (3 * (R-type Bonus))
    • Example: for a +3R Claymore to have a higher maximum damage across 10 hits than a +3S Claymore at rank 5 Critical Hit, the max damage with the sword must be greater than ((21) * (700 + 3 * (100 + 110))) / (3 * (26))=277.3.

Upgrade Bonus

R Type (Red Upgrade Stone)

  • R types focuses on critical damage, stacking with your critical hit rank (Critical Hit damage % + Upgrade %).
  • When dual wielding R-Type weapons, the critical damage bonuses will add together when using single hit skills (i.e. using smash with 2 3R swords would give +36% critical damage, 2 6R swords would give +84%).

S Type (Blue Upgrade Stone)

  • S types focuses on minimum and maximum damage.
  • Celtic Tetra Cylinder receives all special upgrades from all water, earth, fire and wind cylinders
  • Magic Damage from wands applies only to their respective element.
    • Magic damage to staves applies to all magic.
