Damage reflection

On r9+ Spikes, does it still reflect damage when ranged/magic attacks are used on it by the enemy?--§ýkÌ☼ 03:12, 3 November 2010 (PDT)

the renaming of the page

I'm sorry, but I really need to know. Is there a specific reason why the titles of this page has been changed to "Barrier Spikes" when the name is clearly stated as "Barrier Spikes"? Is it just a random thing or is it really called Barrier Spikes in the US server? I play in the Taiwan server and come here from time to time to edit and correct the pages here, and it's really disturbing how all the pages have recently been changed to what seems to me like random names. Can anyone explain why it's been changed?

--diamondclear 1:35, 1 January 2010 (GMT +8)

They're the English translations found in the NA client files. --Duet 17:53, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah...I see. Thanks for clearing that up. -- Diamondclear 18:19, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

possible typo?

Unblockable Attacks: Life Drain, Magic Missile, Final Shot, giant boss special attacks, Mainstream boss special attacks i think it would just make sense for mirage missile to go through it because of the way it works, is "magic missile" a typo?--Sozen Cratos Focker 21:30, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

It may mean Elven Magic Missile. Someone will have to confirm this, or we'll just have to wait and see. ~Rusty~

it's pretty obvious that magic misile is just an abreviation of elven magic misile, that has nothing to do with what i just said. mirage misile's effects "infect" people who were not directly hit by the arow, so that might get through the wall. magic misile has no special properties that seem like they'd let it do that.--Sozen Cratos Focker 23:51, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh, ok. Magic Missile is AoE, so if it hits an enemy next to the wall, it may be possible for its attacks to hit players beyond the wall. Ice hits the enemies around the player and around the target, Fire hits monsters only directly on the path to the target and a small radius around the target, Lightning hits the target and splashes around the target in a larger radius than fire. Like I said, we will have to have someone confirm this, or wait until Barrier Spikes comes out in NA Mabi. Imagine a person stands next to the wall, and gets hit by lightning magic missile; it may be possible for the AoE radius to hit players beyond the wall; same applies for Ice and Fire. Magic Missile does not sound like a typo, but it may need more confirmation. ~Rusty~

Walls?

Does anybody know how this skill works exactly? I mean I read the page for it and all but...why would anything actually attack the wall? It just seems like it'd be an obstacle more than a help, enemies will just run around it and until it's a high rank you can't attack through it either. What's the practical benefit?--Qaccy 18:19, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

In the details, it said that it's useful to stall monsters and prepare for Alchemy skills in the mean time. Other than that not sure, but in some video with the Barrier Spikes, the monsters will attack the wall if it's in their way. (Not sure if I'm allowed to provide link to video so yeah...)
I havent checked the wiki policy, but theres plenty of youtube links on talk pages here, so i don't think that would be a problem.
Since the wall has hp, it should be somewhat like a character/pet/monster. When a player is very close to a monster that's agroing someone behind a door, the monster usually switches aggro to them, could be that since the wall stops monsters movement like a door or regular wall(so a monster approaching a player on the other side will remain touching the wall), and it's agreeable like the player, the enemy switches aggro to the wall after a while cause the monster right next to the wall while the player is a bit farther. Or the wall might grab agro like someone using taunt. Oor it could be that just like a player can attack through the wall, enemies are allowed to try it(but not allowed to succeed), or maybe it just works like the archer scarecrow skills in MS(monsters think the wall is the player that made it)--Sozen Cratos Focker 00:54, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTLwU9fLbyY Here you go o3o--Akumo 01:18, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I have been playing the japanese version of mabinogi recently and have acquired this skill, it does indeed stall the monster as the monster gets to the barrier the monster will try to keep running through the wall and fail, after a few seconds the monster uses whatever attack/skill its AI calls for and atack the wall trying to get to the player until it knocks teh barrier down. However, this is only with the basic monsters i have tested it on thus far, so it may be possible, even likely that later mroe advanced monster AI's that switch aggro or monster such as goblins that run in random circles may figure out how to go around the wall. --~Christian Kenney~ 03:43, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Acceptable Forms of Attacking Through the Wall

Just curious but at rank 5+ it allows you to "attack" through the wall. Is it just limited to range, magic, and alchemy skills or can things like smash, windmill, or normal melee be acceptable to "attack" through? --Miyuna 07:58, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Rank 5 and above only allows ranged attacks to go through, such as Flame Burst, Water Canon and Fire Bolt, to name a few. As far as I know, no melee attacks can or will go through the wall. -- diamondclear 01:42, 1 January 2010 (GMT +8)

Appreciate the response so things such as magnum shot will go through eh? Will windmill go through? In that case, is it possible for a weapon or a skill's "splash" be able to hit through the wall? --Miyuna 04:28, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Magnum can go through. Windmill Cannot. Splash Damage will not. --Lycanthrop 10:13PM PST ,16 February 2010 (UTC)

Sucide

This name could use some changing, is it meant to explain self-destruct or some other skill? --GravityKirby 22:46, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Wall Appearance.

Do the walls have different looks depending on their rank? it would make sense since the walls effects change at r9 and r5, but i just wanted to be sure. If so, should we have pictures of their appearances at different ranks?--(not-so)Anonymous 13:30, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

i saw a few youtube videos of it. When you can attack through it, theres a little window(forgot the actual word for it but it's basically like a window in the middle of the top of the wall wall.--Sozen Cratos Focker 20:33, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah i saw that to, but i also saw one that seemed to be a low rank and was a simple fence, maybe we should have pictures for these to?--(not-so)Anonymous 14:41, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking of making one picture just cut in pieces to show different walls at different ranks. It does change appearance, which is neat. --Miyuna 16:19, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Go for it, if you have the pics. --- Angevon (Talk) 21:52, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Saturday Effects

dont know about anyone else, but i noticed i dont get the saturday effect bonus. slayer1o1 19:46, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

What Saturday effect bonus? If you mean the crystal making success rates, maybe it's meant to say Monday?

I get crystal making bonuses and bonuses for synthesis and fragmention on Saturday, making Saturday the day which boosts Alchemy activities. --Bryanneo 15:09, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Alchemy Mastery's affect on this skill?

What does Barrier Spikes benefit from Alchemy Mastery? Increased HP? Longer duration? --Bryanneo 15:20, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

I have a feeling it increases the wall's hp by the %. I don't understand how my wall can take more damage than what it should at my current skill rank, and so I have to believe it is Alchemy Mastery. --Miyuna 17:08, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Alchemy Mastery clearly states: "Alchemy Damage and Golem stat bonus [+%]" Therefore, one can assume it doesn't affect Barrier Spikes HP, or Duration. AM is only known to affect the success of its Crystal-making.
It may however, affect Damage reflection. This is up for speculation, because the r1 Alchemy Mastery gives 45% boost, which would mean raising the Damage 70% to 115%. Unless it means 45% boost of 70%, which would still lead to 101% total.--Junjun 18:42, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
.......This is a wiki. The info in pages here is just what we know, not everything there is to know. The fact that we know more about the game than Nexon does doesn't mean we know everything. When I added "and golem stats" to that line, i just wasn't thinking about Barrier Spikes, it's not like I was implying Alchemy Mastery has no effect on spikes... [insert some additional mild flaming here]
Since it adds stats to golems the same way it adds dammage to skills, it probably adds hp to the wall by the same % as well, anyone want to do a test to confirm? If it does then i should probably remove the golem comment in the alch mast chart and make a note at the bottom so that line doesn't get to long.--Sozen Cratos Focker 05:06, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I just tested it, used mag on a rA wall with rC AM and did 430 damage to one and 442. the wall looked like it still had around 10 hp left the first time and barely survived the second, so i think its safe to assume the bonus effects the walls as well.--(not-so)Anonymous 16:30, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Also this image: http://i50.tinypic.com/slk37o.jpg - states that having high alchemy mastery also increases the wall's hp. If that's true... imagine this... rank 1 barrier spikes with r1 alchemy with fully upgraded cylinder = you almost got an indestructible wall.--Miyuna 16:48, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I generally take anything in the skill descriptions with a grain of salt, seeing as how the blacksmithing one says you can repair things. In this case though its probably right, and once all the upgrades for earth cylinders come out, if i calculated right, they can get a max of 1960 hp. Assuming the cylinder bonus is the same for Barrier spikes as it is for Golem summoning.--(not-so)Anonymous 19:52, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Ok, anyone have 0% melee balance and a wall with damage reflection to test alch mast's effect on damage reflection?--Sozen Cratos Focker 20:27, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the test guys, I was always wondering AM affect barrier spikes at all. --Bryanneo 14:46, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it does affect it. You can find information on the Japanese Wiki. [1]
Scroll down to the table and you'll see "Arukemimasutari." That is Alchemy Mastery. At Rank 1, it adds +450 HP to a Rank 1 Wall. At Rank 9, 200. You can also see how much HP is added when using an Earth Cylinder too and etc. --Phunkie 10:22, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps someone should add a statement to the page saying how the Mastery affects your walls? --Bryanneo 18:12, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Allies Attacking through

Upon reaching Rank 5, does the wall only allow party-members to attack through it with their range/magic/alchemy or is it specifically exclusive to the summoner?

  1. Any human (party or non) can attack through it. Monsters cannot. Also, i dont know if others can attack through it in elf vs giant pvp. Claypot19 15:35, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Barrier Spikes Rank 1

I've had my BS at r1 for awhile, and I was poking around on the wiki to try and buff them up (since most of Alch seems so worthless nowadays), but I noticed at some point the BS max number of walls was edited to 5 on this page... but I can't find the edit for that.

I can personally guarantee that I can only have 4 walls out at a time, so anyone know what's going on with the page?

Bronzebreak (talk)15:58, 19 February 2018

Looks like it was changed back in Sept 2017. I tested and yeah can only put 4 up at R1 now so I've edited it accordingly.

Rydian (talk)21:23, 19 February 2018

Much thanks, especially for stalking and adding my information.

Might I direct you to the Encore enchant drop?

Bronzebreak (talk)02:33, 20 February 2018

What's up with it?

Rydian (talk)09:39, 20 February 2018

Limitation

Can't it only be set up in dungeons and shadow missions? As a newbie alchemist it's not letting me set up in an open field, and IIRC it doesn't work in theatre missions (especially NPC, otherwise it'd probably be a lot more used in there) either.

Honestly I'm quite baffled this page neglects to mention this since its first release...

Infodude575 (talk)11:49, 6 April 2015

Even if someone is in the wrong, there are more respectful ways to point it out. Considering you've been banned twice for attitude problems, I'd have thought you'd be reflecting on this by now.

Blargel (talk)16:19, 6 April 2015

  1. Can't make in Peaca Abyss last I heard.
  2. "Shadow Realm" - G15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and Girgashiy don't even take place in the Shadow Realm, thereby making it less appropriate than Shadow Mission.
    • Interestingly, it won't let me make it in Renes in Episode 10, but in Courcle in the same episode.
  3. If by perchance spikes can be set in Falias in the shadow mission, can they bet set up in the treasure mission thing too?

Ninja and Spikes

Can any of the ninja attacks go over barrier spikes, both player made and enemy?

Infodude575 (talk)13:34, 29 July 2014

My barrier spikes (rank 4)

  • normal attack - yes
  • Shuriken charge - yes
  • Exploding Kunai - can't toss over
  • Shadow Cloak Whirlwind - no because it targets nearest enemy not behind an obstacle
  • Kunai Storm - yes, can target over the spikes, and hit enemies past the spikes when targeting near or on the spikes. (ignores *spikes completely when looking for targets)
  • Smokebomb - yes
  • Shadow Bind - yes
  • Sakura Abyss - no
Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)14:55, 29 July 2014

Enemy Barrier spikes (lingering darkness)

  • normal attack - no
  • Shuriken charge - can't use skill
  • Exploding Kunai - can't toss over
  • Shadow Cloak Whirlwind - hits nearest enemy behind the spikes; no knockback, no damage, yes spinning animation, surprising!
  • Kunai Storm - yes, cannot target over the spikes, can hit enemies past the spikes when targeting the spikes. (ignores *spikes completely when looking for targets) i cannot test a monster in front of and behind spikes i think
  • Smokebomb - yes
  • Shadow Bind - yes
  • Sakura Abyss - no

Enemy water cannon and wind blast bypasses my rank 9 barrier spikes...

Since when can they do that?!

Dra6o0n (talk)18:06, 10 March 2014

I'm to clarify this as best as I can *deep breath*

Depending on the angle you set your barrier spikes, it is possible for any shots fire to bypass the spikes as if it was their own and they are one the "firing" end. While players can not do this with enemy spikes, it seems apparent that it largely depends on how the spikes were set up. This only seems to work on enemy's alchemy skills and the even stranger thing is that is also varies with whether or not the spikes were placed before or after they spawned. Enemies that spawn after the spike was placed may or may not be able to shoot through it. This applies to all forms of spikes as well.

Short version: Glitchy spikes are glitchy.

Well the thing is, the last time I used barrier spikes was like... A year ago? And enemies spawned after i put the spikes can shoot through it, and enemies spawned before that can shoot through it. Doing sulfur spider in shadow realm on the 1st area and testing that, it always shoots through regardless, based on their water cannons and wind blasts. Barrier is rank 9 btw.

Dra6o0n (talk)14:23, 15 March 2014

There were reported incidents of Cerberus attacks bypassing Barrier Spikes because the spikes were set before the Cerberus spawned.

Infodude575 (talk)18:30, 10 March 2014

Perferically??

Shadow Mission Shadow Cast City (perferically on Advanced or Hard Level) has very strong monsters in groups of 5, and they only move in linear path.

I'm sorry, but... what?

Sorimachi01:07, 6 November 2011

Idk what they mean by "linear path", but fixed.

I think "linear path" means they only move straight towards you.

Infodude57510:17, 6 November 2011

Monster Variant

I wonder why there is no page of the Fomorian's version of the BS...

Infodude57517:06, 6 October 2011

Cause it's not a skill, rather, a prop.

Still technically an enemy though... If I recall right, the difficulty of the SM affects the monster's Barrier Spikes.

Infodude57518:28, 6 October 2011

Damage Reflection?

Does the Barrier Spikes reflect only melee damage? Also, will skills like smash reflect the smash damage back to the enemy or will the base attack be used?

Pyroblade21:22, 11 February 2011

Only contact skills (aka melee). It reflects a percentage of the damage dealt. If you hit the spikes for 100 and it has 50% reflect, you take 50 damage.

Tellos21:48, 11 February 2011

what if a monster theoretically windmilled the barrier? would the reflect damage ignore wm invincibility?

Pyroblade11:43, 13 February 2011

Of course.

Tellos11:47, 13 February 2011
