Snap Casting with Insufficient Mana?

If the skill requires more Mana than you have, it can still be casted.

I just tried SCing a Thunder with 27 and 7 MP and it wouldn't let me, whether I use a Staff or Wand. However it still works with all others.

Infodude575 (talk)15:23, 5 January 2015

I have the same problem, and only with Thunder. Seems to be a bug

ScytheReaper (talk)14:56, 7 May 2016

It may be because of Thunder's base MP usage. Elves and Humans use 36 MP, and Giants use 40 for their first charges without any reductions in cost that may come from Lightning Mastery, Wand/Staff Upgrades, and Intelligence.

Edit: I totally misunderstood the problem lol. It must be a bug then. Ice Spear and Fireball work fine. Thunder works when it has 36 MP (using a Human).

Lowering Cooldown

Is it lowered only by snap casted attacks or all magic attacks, snapped and not snapped?

Infodude575 (talk)17:02, 13 October 2014

1.

Incompatible spells will still lower Snap Cast's cooldown.

2. Can easily be tested if it weren't already on here.

iDSd19:14, 13 October 2014

Doesn't answer my question.

Infodude575 (talk)19:35, 13 October 2014

If an incompatible spell cannot be snapped casted, yet will still lower the cooldown of Snap Cast, how is it possible for only snap casted spells to lower the cooldown of Snap Cast?

iDSd22:56, 13 October 2014

I don't know, use it during snap cast's duration?

Could have directly answered the question rather than beat around the bush.

Infodude575 (talk)23:15, 13 October 2014

Did I not directly answer your question by providing a statement (which could already be found on the page) directly contradicting one of two answers, leaving the other half to be the only possible answer?

Simple process of elimination.

iDSd00:05, 14 October 2014

Didn't you already ask this question in the IRC...and got the same answer from Blargel?

Yinato (talk)08:23, 14 October 2014

@iDSd: If I understood that concept, then I wouldn't have been asking all this in the first place.

@Yinato: I asked here first before turning to IRC. It's not like I can delete the conversation.

Infodude575 (talk)10:32, 14 October 2014

Process of elimination? A difficult concept to comprehend? It's more of a common sense than a concept...

Here, let me do you a favor and quickly explain this difficult "concept".

You have two choices, A and B. One of these choices is the correct choice.
I tell you that choice B is the incorrect choice.
Therefore, choice A must be the correct choice, as there are no other choices that could correct.

Now it's your turn! Try this practice problem below:

You have two choices, C and D. One of these choices is the correct choice.
I tell you that choice C is the incorrect choice.
Which choice is the correct choice? Explain how you got to your answer. Be sure to double check your answer and check with a classmate. (5 points)

iDSd13:51, 14 October 2014

I know this one.

Z.

Sakura502 (talk)13:59, 14 October 2014

If that doesn't answer it, I'm not sure what your question is either. Anyway, as the page says the cooldown is decreased by actual uses of a spell. So, any magic attacks used at all would decrease the cooldown as long as it's offensive magic, snapped or not. It says even blaze does it even though it can't be snap casted.

Meru (talk)21:57, 13 October 2014

also, 3 topics down, in the discussion of blaze, this was fairly directly addressed since he asked the exact same question in that thread 11 months ago today.

Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)14:04, 14 October 2014

No, it's not the "exact same"... This thread is asking if there's any condition in lowering snap cast's cooldown. That other thread didn't really address it; it just said incompatible spells lowered cooldown, not thoroughly explaining the function.

Infodude575 (talk)14:36, 14 October 2014

It might not be the same exact question, but it provides you with enough information to simulate the above scenario three times over. And what function is there to explain, exactly? You essentially asked a "yes or no" question.

iDSd14:49, 14 October 2014

And if you wish to be so technically correct, this thread does not ask "if there are any conditions"; it asks "is this specific condition a factor", which, again, can be answered through deduction using the information provided in the previously mentioned thread.

iDSd14:54, 14 October 2014

At this point, the question has already been answered and it's turning into a pretty stupid argument on semantics. Unless you guys actually have something to contribute anymore, please move on.

Blargel (talk)15:20, 14 October 2014

Obtaining it.

I was wondering if CP could have some effect into it. I think I may have gotten it while wearing a Raccoon Cub outfit.

Nise Panda (talk)14:28, 5 April 2014

I got it a few days after release where I wasn't really trying and I have 3k CP, so I seriously doubt that.

Infodude575 (talk)14:46, 5 April 2014

What were you using magic on though .3.?

You could have easily hit a monster that is considered 'Normal' to you and get it.

Nise Panda (talk)14:52, 5 April 2014

IIRC bolt spells on a gray wolf. I was just poking them for fun, then I got bored super fast.

Infodude575 (talk)15:06, 5 April 2014

CP does not affect anything. I got mine in the first 10 mins of Druid update while icing foxes near Tir, while also getting r1 Magic Weapon mastery. I was also the first in the server with the title 8D...

commerce ftw

Providing that you hit bandits every 10minutes, snap cast is really useful, 5 charge thunder or fireball instantly

Kidstrike (talk)18:02, 17 November 2013

Hm, if Snap Cast removes the mana cost of Blaze, what happens to its stamina cost?

Infodude575 (talk)10:38, 14 November 2013

I haven't really checked with my -4% casting speed savage ice wand, but probably since it's like all magic skills, it drains mp and sp at a rate, so I think it might negate that too.

Meru (talk)12:10, 14 November 2013

I can't even seem to get it to work with blaze.

Meru (talk)22:30, 14 November 2013

Hold on, does it or does it not work with Blaze? Meru and Blargel are saying it doesn't, but Mikaya and Kapra are. I can't tell myself because I don't have the skill yet.

Infodude575 (talk)19:05, 15 November 2013

I'm not sure where Mikaya and Kapra are saying it is, but I load snap cast and blaze just does its normal thing. 3 seconds to full charge, drains stam and mana, doesn't activate the snap cast skill.

Meru (talk)19:11, 15 November 2013

It is hard to tell, but from what I noticed, it does go down by 2 seconds (after calculation on blaze's animation and lots of lots of math regarding....time.) I'm not saying I'm 100 percent correct as lag my cause some weird timing.

(stupid update) Blaze does not work with Snap Cast...reducing cooldown, it does.

ベリサ・マイルスター (talk)19:11, 15 November 2013

H-how does that even work?!

Infodude575 (talk)20:07, 15 November 2013

Beats me...I just know it does reduce cooldown.

ベリサ・マイルスター (talk)20:17, 15 November 2013

I wonder if it works for the other incompatible magic skills...

Infodude575 (talk)20:28, 15 November 2013

In Theory, all offensive magic "should" lower its cooldown. I am learning Shockwave to further test this.

Shockwave works.

ベリサ・マイルスター (talk)20:30, 15 November 2013

About Successful hits..

So hitting say...around 20 monsters with Fireball will reduce it by 40 seconds and hitting thunder about 30 times from multiple strikes ([initial hit+number of charges] x [number of enemies struck]) reduce it faster?

I think it's due to 'spell type' hitting a target.

So Icebolt x 5 hitting a target 5 times is 2 x 5.

But a 5 charge lightning bolt hitting 5 or more target might count as 1 times so 2x1?

Because it's a single cast, rather than multi-cast.

Dra6o0n (talk)15:05, 14 November 2013

Well I just finally got it after hitting rank 1 Weapon mastery (stupidly easy with a CC+4 Ice Wand btw)...which took about 100000 Icebolts? I'll look into this as I find a large mob.

まそっぷ ! (talk)15:31, 14 November 2013

I am really dissappointed...it goes goes down by hit count. Fireball = 1 hit, regardless of targets hit. I don't have thunder (at least not on my main), but Lightning bolt is the same.

まそっぷ ! (talk)15:43, 14 November 2013

Out of curiosity, does it also work with:

  • Natural/Ice/Fire/Lightning Shields?
  • Healing?
  • Party Healing?
Infodude575 (talk)13:26, 25 August 2013

Tested, no effect on magic shields, it skips the animations on healing though. But healing is already chaincasted so its JUST an animation skip for one full cast of 5. None of us have Party Heal at rF and Instant Cast to check yet.

Pyro - (Talk)18:24, 25 August 2013

Party Heal is also animation skipped.

Pyro - (Talk)18:57, 25 August 2013

Mm, so just to be sure, Shockwave does not use up SC and still uses Mana?

Infodude575 (talk)21:39, 25 August 2013

We'll have to check, KR test wiped since we tested it and nobody currently on KR test or live has both skills.

Pyro - (Talk)22:32, 25 August 2013

Why would party heal need to be rank F to test this?

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)21:43, 25 August 2013

Can't use party heal at novice, iirc.

Correct. Unusable at Novice.

Infodude575 (talk)21:54, 25 August 2013

Does Healing lower the cooldown?

Infodude575 (talk)18:56, 25 August 2013

That is very difficult to test, apparently. Also, turns out it doesn't work with Fusion Bolt either for obvious reasons.

Pyro - (Talk)19:09, 25 August 2013
