When the Milletian, Merlin, and Treasure Hunter begin their journey to search for the missing Young Tarlach, they are joined by Pinky, Treasure Hunter's gorilla pet, at Port Qilla. Merlin laughs, finding the name ridiculous, but Treasure Hunter tells him off, saying Pinky is stronger than she looks.
While analyzing the tracks at the Dragon Bone Tomb, Merlin impatiently waits and Treasure Hunter orders Pinky to distract him, only to get kicked.
Hearing Young Tarlach is at Zardine's Hot Springs, the group encounters a Dying Glutton Monkey at the Hot Springs. Merlin dismisses the monkey as unimportant, causing Pinky to give him a very sad face. Pinky then informs Treasure Hunter that the monkey ate a sachel that fell from the sky that contained poison and also saw a big, round bird before being poisoned. After Treasure Hunter heals the monkey, it tells Pinky who tells Treasure Hunter that the figures went to Renes.
Before a camp session at La Terra Highlands, Merlin complains about Pinky stealing his snacks and Treasure Hunter offers a hefty fee for more snacks.
At nightfall, Treasure Hunter tells Pinky to disguise herself as Young Tarlach to deceive the Cessair and he recites magic words from The Black Book of Bith to make the disguise seem real. Treasure Hunter further instructs Pinky to drop pebbles to use to track her.
When the group tries to escape the Cessair, Merlin fails to see through the disguise. Treasure Hunter explains that the spell prevents anyone from seeing through the disguise unless they know what they are looking at.
Using a raft, the group escapes to Cor, with the Cessair in hot pursuit. However, upon reaching Cor, Treasure Hunter reveals that the raft was booby trapped and it explodes, knocking everyone unconscious and allowing the Cessair to freely take Tarlach and Pinky.
Following the Cessair to Metus on a horse chase, Merlin rushes forward and attempts to snag Tarlach. He succeeds, only to snag Pinky and once again failing to see through her disguise. Treasure Hunter then says Pinky sarcastically "thanks" Merlin for saving her instead of the real Tarlach.
