Description
A young boy with red eyes clutches a teddy bear.(Generation 17 in progress)
A young boy who hides behind Berched whenever a stranger comes. His flaming red eyes seem to be full of untold stories.
Following the events of The Saga: Iria, a Young Tarlach can be found near Berched. He seems to be very shy around people. With enough favor, he will call the player 'big bro' or 'big sis'.
If you are replaying Generation 17: The Saga: Iria, you will not be able to interact with him past his introduction.
While playing or replaying Generation 18: The Saga: Iria II, Tarlach disappears from his usual spot.
History
Berched bought his outfit. He also fast friends with Eabha.
Mainstream Story
Berched leaves Young Tarlach under the care of Merlin and Starlet while the elder druid takes a trip to the Hot Springs. Tarlach begs to join Berched, but he tells Tarlach to wait for his return.
Tarlach sends a letter to the Milletian requesting that they keep him company. On their arrival, he begs them to take him away from Merlin, who upsets the child. Starlet quickly cheers him up by offering to cook for him, but Merlin decides to find the Culinary Artist due to her poor cooking skills. He takes the Milletian along with him and leaves Tarlach in Starlet's care. They eventually find Culinary Artist and enjoy a feast.
Merlin brags about his history of defeating a Giant Brown Bear, impressing the young Tarlach. However, Merlin and Professor J eventually argue about the bear's innocence. Culinary Artist tells the story from the bear's perspective, saying that it wanted to get strong until Merlin beat it up. This upsets Young Tarlach until Merlin excuses himself by claiming he lied, ending the story with the bear happily living ever after.
Culinary Artist then requests the group to deliver some ingredients to Glenis. The group then takes a walk to Dunbarton by cutting through Abb Neagh.
It begins to rain and the group takes shelter at the nearby Bard Camp. However, Tarlach catches a cold before mentioning that he had a nightmare. The group quickly push their way to Dunbarton once the rain settles.
Upon arriving at Dunbarton, Tarlach gets separated from the group, only to wind up with Kristell, who claimed he was lost and was looking for his friends. Due to Tarlach's wish to stay with the priestess, the group decides to do her errands. She then sends the Aces to Emain Macha and the Milletian to Port Cobh.
At Port Cobh, Kristell quietly laments to herself about not having spent enough time with Tarlach. Kristell then leaves to get Tarlach candy, but Ruairi passes by her and sits next to Tarlach, who fails to recognize him. Ruairi asks the child if he has been staying well, leaving him a bit confused. Tarlach proceeds to claim that his heart hurts before Ruairi tells him to stay well as he leaves. Kristell returns to find Tarlach wiping his tears.
Kristell tells Young Tarlach he should pray if he is ever afraid. Subsequently, Merlin and the Milletian arrive to pick up Young Tarlach, but Kristell insists that they rest in Port Cobh. Tarlach mentions having nightmares but refuses to explain what they are about; Merlin shrugs it off and says Tarlach will be fine. The Milletian then puts Tarlach to rest.
In his nightmare, Tarlach sees Berched and Mores who talk about the path of the druid he follows. The druids then suddenly vanish and Glas Ghaibhleann appears, chasing Tarlach down the hallway. It disappears halfway when he sees Merlin, who says Tarlach has potential as a druid, but asks him what he used his power for along with what he did in his past. He further warns him that his actions have a consequence, leaving Tarlach confused. His nightmare scares him, leading him to pray. Tarlach eventually wakes up and stares out the window.
The next morning, Tarlach is missing. The Milletian examines a picture book that was left behind and sees very crude drawings of evil-looking figures. Merlin and the Milletian decide to search for Tarlach, however no one in Port Cobh claimed to have seen him when he left. Annick mentions that she knows someone who may be able to locate him, leading Merlin and the Milletian track down the person. They eventually meet Treasure Hunter and manage to recruit him for their search. As Treasure Hunter searches Port Cobh, he mentions that the dock workers saw a boy. He finds traces of Tarlach's hair at the dock, further indicating that he took a boat to Iria.
The trio arrive at Port Qilla where they are joined by Pinky, Treasure Hunter's gorilla pet, in their search for Young Tarlach. Treasure Hunter suspects he went to either Kaypi Canyon or Maiz Prairie, therefore the group splits up to cover both areas.
Treasure Hunter finds tracks at the Dragon Bone Tomb, which lead to Neres Plateau. There, they meet Lopez, who refuses to talk until Treasure Hunter pays him. Lopez mentions that he was accompanied by black-robed people and that Tarlach was crying about a crystal. He then claims that they went to the Connous Oasis, however Treasure Hunter doesn't believe him as the tracks lead to Rupes Desert. Merlin recklessly insists on going to the oasis to investigate and the group ends up being attacked by bandits. Treasure Hunter follows his senses to find an injured Lopez at Errans Gorge. After interrogating him, he reveals that Tarlach went to Cor.
At Cor, the Milletian reunites with Akule, who mentions he has seen Tarlach and the black-robed people through dark omens. Tupai also mentions that he had also seen Tarlach but was afraid because of the "dark spirits" around him, but refuses to explain further until they head to The Holy Land of Shamans. There, Tupai reveals to Treasure Hunter that the black-robed people talked about a Hot-Air Balloon and Hot Springs, indicating that they are at Zardine.
The group encounters a Dying Glutton Monkey at the Hot Springs. After healing the monkey, it tells Pinky who then tells Treasure Hunter that the figures went to Renes.
The group decides to use a hot-air balloon to get to Renes. As they board the balloon, they see the nearby black-robed people's balloon take off. The group manages to shoot the enemy's balloon down Calida Lake. However, when the group approaches the downed balloon, the kidnappers, revealed to be Cessair, summon Enslaved Ifrit to distract them before leaving with the boy. The group proceeds to follow the Cessair after defeating the creature.
The group follows the Cessair to Barba, now pursuing them on skis. During the chase, Treasure Hunter manages to successfully recapture Young Tarlach and the group flees to La Terra Highlands.
The group notes that the Cessair put Tarlach to sleep via magic, pointing out that he is unable to wake up. During camp, Treasure Hunter secretly instructs Pinky to disguise herself as Tarlach, using magic from The Black Book of Bith to make the disguise even more foolproof. He also attempts to use the book to wake up Tarlach, but is interrupted by the appearance of Cessair. He tells the Milletian and Merlin to take Tarlach to the raft.
Before they board the raft, Treasure Hunter senses a trap but Merlin does not believe him. The group is then forced to raft with the Cessair in hot pursuit. However, upon reaching Cor, they are knocked unconscious, allowing the Cessair to take Pinky and Tarlach.
Merlin rushes forward and attempts to snag Tarlach as they chase the Cessair to Metus. He succeeds, only to find that he snagged the disguised Pinky. The group is then ambushed by enslaved creatures. After clearing out the enemies, they find that the Cessair and Tarlach have vanished. Treasure Hunter notes that the altar is actually a portal. They end up in Muyu Desert once he manages to open it and a pyramid-like structure appears before them. The group investigate it to eventually come across a tower-like structure.
Ruairi talks to Dian, who is afraid they are making the wrong choices for Young Tarlach. She tells him to not follow his emotions as they will only bring him down. Ruairi says that he pities her before leaving to continue their plan.
Ruairi then talks to Tarlach. Lamenting the past and trying to believe that he did not make the wrong choice, Ruairi states that once it is all over, Tarlach can forget what happened and live a happy life. Tarlach responds that Nemeton is full of lies and destiny is theirs to manipulate as his eye color changes to green.
Ruairi then approaches the Milletian and Merlin, who were captured by the Cessair. He says that he wishes for Tarlach to live a normal life, but needs the God Fragment to complete their plan of holding a ritual to extract it from him. Ruairi denies their interference and promises to return Tarlach once the ritual is complete. Before he leaves, Ruairi gives them a crystal and says Tarlach wanted them to have it. Merlin takes the crystal and turns it into a wand that allows him and the Milletian to teleport out of the barrier, believing that Tarlach wanted them to escape and stop the Cessair.
Pushing forward, the Milletian, Treasure Hunter, and Merlin fight and eventually defeat Dian, but the ritual surrounding Tarlach still continues even after her death.
Tarlach explains to Ruairi that Dian's plan was full of lies as she was planning to sacrifice the two to become Dian Cecht again. Tarlach then suggests they use Dian's plan to fulfill their own purposes. Ruairi assumes that Tarlach is trying to use the power of the Gods to sever the link between Erinn and the ties it has to the Gods again, but Tarlach recognizes that the destruction of the Soul Stream and Falias is impossible, further stating that they need to do the exact opposite by opening the door to the other cities of gods: Findias, Murias, and Gorias. He suggests that they could even open the door a realm that is governed by an entirely different god than Aton Cimeni. By doing so, another entity would invade Erinn and combat its Gods, thus preventing them from meddling with the world and its inhabitants. Tarlach is very certain that the plan will work and finally overthrow the Gods, allowing humans to achieve the power of the Gods and rule Erinn under their will. He plans to sacrifice himself to achieve his plot, believing that his second life means nothing, but Ruairi notices that Tarlach is trembling and does not seem truly capable of sacrificing himself. He asks the boy who he truly is.
Tarlach reveals that he is Tarlach, but not the Tarlach that Ruairi knows; he is the God Fragment that absorbed Tarlach's memories and was made to be so by Macha. He asks Ruairi to carry out the ritual for Tarlach, saying that the Tarlach he knew would want him to do it. He further states that Dian was incapable of besting the Milletian, causing Ruairi to become the master of the ritual. He leaves the choice to Ruairi before explaining that he will die afterward, knowing that his life is forfeit due to being the key to open the gate. He then bids Ruairi farewell before being encased in a crystal. Ruairi laments over the constant sacrifices of his beloveds before being interrupted by Cessair's Heart. She then tells Ruairi that Tarlach did not tell him everything, further explaining that the key does not choose his fate; rather, the boy's fate was already decided before he came to accept it. She also explains that Tarlach's death does not have to last forever.
Ruairi makes the decision to continue the ritual. The Cessair's efforts to stop the Milletian, Merlin, and Treasure Hunter from interrupting fail when Merlin teleports the Milletian into the altar before it flies into the sky. As Ruairi and the Milletian fight in their final battle, the ritual continues. Once it is complete and Tarlach's body transforms into the door to another world, Ruairi destroys the altar and sends the two plummeting down to Erinn, where the Milletian is saved by Merlin. Ruairi remembers that Heart told him the that only way to save Tarlach is to die in his stead by destroying the altar the moment the ritual finishes, causing the door to another world to open. The sacrifice would then shift to him. Heart asks him if he really wants to go down that path, but after remembering everything that happened in his life, Ruairi believes that it is the only choice he has before being engulfed in a bright light that is seen all across Erinn.
Tarlach is teleported next to the Milletian, Merlin, and Treasure Hunter. Merlin demands to talk to the God Fragment, scaring Tarlach, before being kicked by Treasure Hunter. They note that Tarlach is now a regular boy. Merlin orders the Milletian to take Tarlach back home. As the two walk off, Treasure Hunter asks Merlin why he attacked Tarlach with the subject of the God Fragment. Merlin then mentions a secret group that protects Erinn.
