YES!

FINALLY. Anyways, I'm going to make a category for all the servers, mm'kay? Mm'kay. ~Zallist 11:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Should a category be added to this page?

Hint hint: [[Category:Servers]] ~Zallist 16:03, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Online/Event

Is this tag necessary? Mabinogi is almost ALWAYS in event-state. So, really, it should just be noted as Online. Saves a lot of time for everyone. ~Zallist 15:55, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

There are times when a channel/serer will completely drop the Event. So it would be nice to know what channels are good to go.--Tricky B Bomb (Talk) 01:25, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Edit Button

We've decided not to make the edit button go directly into edit mode so that newbie users will (hopefully) see the editing guidelines. --- Angevon (Talk) 16:32, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah, 'kay. May want to note that somewhere next time. o-o ~Zallist 16:36, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
You realise there's an Edit hyperlink in the very first line of the intro, right? That seems like it'd cause more damage than the one near the bottom. ~Zallist 16:39, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
I heard there's a security system that blocks all new users from editing the server status until they make 10 edits. If this is true, then anyone who sees the edit screen will already know at least a little bit about the edit guidelines

Seems I forgot that the website was on the list and put it as maintenance too... Good thing someone noticed.Feildmaster

New status message proposal

Mabinogi server no monsters.png

This's been happenin' a lot lately. I propose we throw this inta the template. :D In short, "No Monsters" status means "no monsters, no NPC animals, and by extention, no dungeons". An extended explanation would be "The monster server for this channel is currently offline. No monsters or NPC animals can spawn at this time and dungeons are inaccessable." What'cha think? :3 Love, Jessica U. Ingmann (Info/Feedback/Edits) 17:57, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

I think "Low Spawns" would fit this better, because dungeons rarely close during normal service. It's usually, "monster server is lagging" rather than absolutely no respawns and dungeons. --Hengsheng120·TALKCONTRIBS 19:36, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
At this very moment, there are NO SPAWNS AT ALL on Alexina, Channel 1. D: It's not that nothin's respawnin' or things are spawnin' at an incredibly slow rate, Hengsheng... It's that there is absolutely NONE AT ALL anywhere. Chest monsteres in Iria don't spawn, there's no sheep or hens ta harass, dungeons tell ya "Can't enter because the monster server is having issues"... Even th' town guards in Vales an' Filia aren't spawnin'! And as I said, this has been happenin' quite a lot lately. Love, Jessica U. Ingmann (Info/Feedback/Edits) 20:29, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
I told you that's situation specific. We don't need tags for specific problems. If it hasn't happened since g1 it should not be here.--Hengsheng120·TALKCONTRIBS 21:53, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Too specific? Okay then...  :| Should I even bother makin' a "Low Spawn Rate" error graphic then? Love, Jessica U. Ingmann (Info/Feedback/Edits) 23:26, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
You don't have to do anything until the others have a say in this--Hengsheng120·TALKCONTRIBS 23:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
My thoughts about this are: We should just keep the normal status messages, keeping the messages general is a better idea since if you go too specific, we may have to end up placing a lot of status messages stating everything thats happening on a sever and that will be kind of messy :/.

But!!!! We should consider making the "Error" Status message into Error(s) since there might be more than one error :X. SoraHikari 20:54, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

It would take a long time to label every possible type of error that doesn't shut down the server, so when things like Mabinogi server no monsters.png happen, we just use 'error' as the label.

Too Attractive

This is attracting too much attention during server crashes/sudden downtimes. Everyone expects the wiki to have this updated asap so that they can check if the server is actually down or if it's just them, but with all the server load when all you people are here to check it makes it impossible for us to be able to even update the status! This, my friends, is probably the biggest reason for the server load (other than the Wiki Status, since people also expect us to place up unscheduled maintenance asap also) during downtimes! Please, check the Mabinogi Nexon Site BEFORE you come and check the wiki!!! Too much server load is bad. ): Or else, donate for a better server! --κєνıи тαıĸ«) 21:23, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Ive noticed that the server statuses NEVER seem to get updated recently. I know for FACT that Ruari Ch 1 right now is experiancing errors. The Graphic depicts that, but the text was last updated on May 26th. These things NEED to be updated. "Error" simply isnt good enough. Maintenante Updates

So, being new here I am not certain of anything but do wish to help. As of 7:33 AM PST 1/29/2014 the game is down undergoing maintenance. Nexons' site also shows it's under maintenance not having the 'play' buttons up. However the game status is still showing Online. I gather from being new I may not be able to edit much, and from the comments that this page may even be obsolete, but am hoping that someone sees this who can fix it, as no one was responding in IRC. Thanks, Lark

Woodlark (talk)07:36, 29 January 2014

Lock this?

Since the advent of the auto-server-status, this page is useless. I hesitate to recommend it for deletion, in case it's needed again some day. We should lock it to sysops or somehow "hide" it from normal users, to prevent confusion.

Xcelled19416:02, 29 January 2012

Seems like a good idea. Perhaps even rolling it back to when the Automatic Server Status script replaced it or just set it to its default values before locking it.

TheFarix16:06, 29 January 2012

BTW, can we also put a notice on the page that it is obsolete?

TheFarix16:31, 29 January 2012

Was just gonns say that. Nice, big, bold, rainbow letters? xD

Xcelled19416:34, 29 January 2012

It's still useful for when the auto server status doesn't pick up things such as Latency.

Aubog, I think you're confusing this page for this one.

Pyro - (Talk)16:39, 29 January 2012

Gonna nip this confusion-nest in the bud right now. this is the OLD page. It has no effect on the current status display.

In addition to the warning message, Kevin, could you enclose the contents of the page in comment tags? Just to prevent further confusion?

Online/Errors

Whenever a person goes to the main page of the wiki to check statuses, if a channel of a server is down or there are errors on certain channels, users won't know unless they expand the individual channels (Which, knowing people, they most likely will not.)

I was wondering if it would be useful to have a Error.png status for servers to indicate that servers are online, but certain channels are facing issues. (I.E. if Channel 2 on Mari was offline/lag/error status, Mari server would be marked as Error.png)

The image itself is 80x15 to match the other indicators, and has a 4-pixel border (3 of which are error-yellow, 1 of which is a fade into the green) reading "Online/Error." See below for enlarged version.

Error.png

animeshadows20:47, 2 July 2011

Although this is a good idea, users are supposed to edit the entire server as 'error' if something other than online/event is used as a channel status. I will edit the status code as soon as I can get back on a personal computer.

κєνıи тαıĸ«)23:13, 2 July 2011

Oh! Alright. I put error up on Mari then.. 4 and 6 are down. Thanks!

animeshadows23:30, 2 July 2011

Mabinogi server error.png is used when the server is online but errors affect gameplay or cause the client to crash. If the server is closed by Nexon due to an error, it is labeled as Mabinogi server offline.png. If we do use Error.png instead of the Mabinogi server error.png tag, then the file name would have to be changed to Mabinogi_server_online_error.png to match the other filenames.

We need more quick edits

Last edit: 13:38, 7 August 2011

There are a few quick edits that would be really useful if they were added to the quick edit list:

  • All servers 'offline'
  • All servers 'error'
  • All servers 'latency'

All servers 'offline' would be useful if all the servers go down at once. All servers 'error' would be useful if there are errors on all servers. All servers 'latency' would be useful if all the servers are experiencing lag. I hope this gets added one day. This would really help people who update the server status section.

Dandykong13:14, 7 August 2011

or you could do what I did and...copy and paste "offline" numerous times. besides, This is a very rare occurrence of everything going suddenly offline. is a good idea though.

LexisMikaya13:26, 7 August 2011

NEXON Website Status cannot show "Error"

When typing "error" next to NEXON=, it will display the ONLINE function. The website is on, yes, but is barely functioning. Most of the game websites are down, mabinogi's is switching between on and offline.

animeshadows09:58, 7 August 2011

I tried to open the edit screen and save to see if it changes it to "error" and the section was instantly locked. If I log out the section's unlocked but says only users can edit it. When I log back in the section is re-locked. I think I got blocked for saving without making a change but it just toggles protection when I log in.

Dandykong11:58, 7 August 2011

I'm just guessing the data/template doesn't or wasn't made to accept it

animeshadows11:59, 7 August 2011

Don't worry, that glitch was fixed so the "Nexon website" status can be set to "error". By the way I found out why I couldn't edit the server status after 10 edits (which were mainly spelling and grammar correction as well as typo fixing)

Dandykong12:37, 7 August 2011

Some users are claiming Ch4 of Ruairi is offline, but I do not have a character on that server to confirm it. Anybody wanna check it out?

animeshadows20:23, 2 July 2011

it has not disappeared off the channel list, so it may just have an error in it atm

Miyani20:31, 2 July 2011

PHP Server Statuses?

Was wondering if we could automate server statuses a little. A small javascript/php ping could easily find out if a server is online or not. A simple "override" could be provided in the rare event the script was wrong or to clarify details. Let me know, I'll do some research.

Xcelled19416:26, 7 June 2011

I'm pretty sure Nexon has blocked pinging their servers since like.. last year.

κєνıи тαıĸ«)16:35, 7 June 2011

Yeah, theres some issues. Looks like this won't be any time soon in coming....

Xcelled19418:47, 7 June 2011

You don't need to ping the server. Just try and connect to their server and port with a simple TCP connection and if it works, it's online. Otherwise, it's not ~小太郎 TALKCONTRIBS 2011:06:08:06:43 (Wednesday)

~小太郎 TALK<sub style="margin-left:-26px 22:43, 7 June 2011

Was thinking of that, obviously. Unfortunately, we'd have to jump through hoops to get javascript/PHP on the wiki

Xcelled19407:58, 8 June 2011

Some additional problems that would have to be resolved using this would be:

  • Determining whether if the server is down due to maintenance/update or is actually crashed.
  • As far as I can tell, this only uses one of the channel's status to determine all. If a channel other than the first is down, it will still be shown as online/event tag.
  • Short timeouts could lead to inaccurate results, especially during times with a lot of server traffic.
  • MOAAAAAR.

The idea is that it would fill in the content for http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/index.php?title=Wiki_Home/Server_Status&action=edit thus breaking the existing style as little as possible. :)

But that's where we need IJ's experience.

Xcelled19409:29, 12 June 2011

I defer the scripting matters to you people. I do not script in PHP; I'm a Perl guy myself. I just integrate stuff and (try to) make sure it won't break the box's security as PHP has a frequent propensity to do.

Irjustman09:49, 12 June 2011

There was a PHP extension that I found for the wiki earlier that restricted use to and only executes if the last editor was one who has the rights. I can't find it anymore :c

κєνıи тαıĸ«)11:02, 12 June 2011

κєνıи тαıĸ«)11:14, 12 June 2011

Yeah, I've written (and am finishing) the script. I need IJ's help to integrate it though.

Xcelled19411:35, 12 June 2011

Also, Ij, this is a question for you. Where is the actual content stored? For example, the ServerStatus page, where is the Index pulling: {{:Wiki Home/Server Status/Template |Mabinogi=event |Nexon=online |Login=online |Alexina=event |AlexinaHCH=online

from? Cause if possible, I'd replace that stuff completely with the configuration section for my script, and just require() it.

The reason for that is PHP could really open up the server to attack IF we let joe blow see the source code. By separating the configuration from the workhorse, we can prevent that.

Xcelled19412:02, 12 June 2011

I don't think IJ plans to implement this.

κєνıи тαıĸ«)15:57, 12 June 2011

Just... write it so it's in a table, fancy if possible, and we will integrate the whole thing in to the wiki without much problems with AJAX/iframes and whatnot ~小太郎 TALKCONTRIBS 2011:06:12:23:25 (Sunday)

~小太郎 TALK<sub style="margin-left:-26px 15:25, 12 June 2011

But that's a problem. People need to access the script's configuration to set things like events. So we need to have some wiki functionality.

Xcelled19418:16, 12 June 2011

AJAX still solves the problem. Request serverstatus.php?event=true and it shall return a table with "event" instead of "online". ~小太郎 TALKCONTRIBS 2011:06:13:02:36 (Monday)

No, Kotarou, we're not going to host this thing on MM and iframe it onto here.

κєνıи тαıĸ«)20:16, 13 June 2011

If we have access to the base PHP for the wiki_home page, a simple "Include()" function call is all that's needed. Oh, and the script has to be placed on this server. But that's easy enough, IJ can do it in about 5 sec.

Xcelled19420:52, 13 June 2011

OK, I gave it a face lift: http://www.ketelaar.com/WikiStatus/MabiServers.php technically, you COULD replace the current box with an iframe pointing to this. However, I am still farting with the looks, so it may break intermittently.....

"AJAX" can also be written as "Ajax."

κєνıи тαıĸ«)16:41, 14 June 2011

Now now, kiddies. I think, depending on if IJ has access/can directly edit the Wiki_Home sourcecode, AJAX is the way to go as this will not prevent the page from loading simply because the server status is taking a while.

AJAX code that would REPLACE the current server box. Note that the URL is for EXAMPLE ONLY and would need to be changed to reflect the actual location:

<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){

   $("#response").load("ServerStat/info.php");

}); </script>

Elsewise, I've been looking at: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Include

This implementation is potentially less secure, but if we configure it to use a regex that ONLY matches the path to the .PHP file, it should be watertight.... IJ, note that the regex would use PERL syntax, so you could fill that bit in yourself.

EITHER WAY, WE ARE NOT PERMANENTLY HOSTING THIS ON MY PERSONAL SITE

SOMEONE NEEDS TO DRAG IJ IN HERE AND MAKE HIM READ WHAT I JUST POSTED ^^^^^ (not it!)

Also, my script now reads from http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/index.php?title=Automated_Server_Test for its configuration, so we'll need a (slightly) new template on how to edit. Its not really that much different, if you look, you'll see what I mean.

PHP source: http://pastebin.com/gbhFpga6

Xcelled19420:09, 14 June 2011

AJAX cannot be called Ajax because AJAX is an acronym...
Secure PHP on the other hand, cannot be all caps because "Secure" is not an acronym.

And I still don't see why we need to call IJ in when this can be done with AJAX. If you don't want it to be hosted on MM, I can host it on my 110mb.com site... ~小太郎 TALKCONTRIBS 2011:06:15:11:23 (Wednesday)

~小太郎 TALK<sub style="margin-left:-26px 03:23, 15 June 2011

Because as a general rule, you should keep content together. This (helps) to eliminate the elements-missing look when some dependant server goes down.

Also, I cannot directly edit the homepage or insert AJAX into the server page. Unless your permissions are different, we need IJ for that.

Xcelled19405:16, 15 June 2011

OK, well I have heard nothing on t his for a long time.... The script has been slightly modified for reliability and ease of use... The configuration page is set up with proper editing help:Automatic Server Status and its working. The only things left to do:

  • Get IJ to place the PHP and img files on the server
  • Replace the current status box with some kind of include of the PHP script.
