Mabinogi Beginner Guide
Welcome to Mabinogi!
Mabinogi is a very expansive game that has been up since 2008 in North America. As such, there are many different systems, skills, and other things and can make it really easy to get lost!
The mabinogi wiki (wiki.mabinogiworld.com) has extensive information and data about anything you may want to know.
Make it your go-to bible!
Anything mentionned here is also covered on the wiki, if you wish to get further information.
Basics
Check out the User Interface and the Inventory pages for basics on the controls and the game interface.
Beginner's Guide and Memory Book
- As you progressed through the tutorial, you probably may have seen under your Basic quest tab a quest titled "A blue fragrance on the wind".
- This is the memory book. It will help reach a cumulative level of 20,000 and serves as a follow-up of the tutorial itself. Each quest completed will add Cumulative Levels directly to your character, and even reward you with some skills. check up the Memoir page for more information.
Dungeon Guide and Monster hunting
- The Dungeon Guide can be used to warp instantly to the dungeons specified, and at no cost compared to the Traveler's Guide.
- The support boxes are really useful for someone who is just starting out, as you will get pets and good gear from those.
- Notably, the Alby support box rewards you a Nimbus, which can heal you.
Camping/anti-bot penalties:
- Make note that if you try to hunt for monsters in the overworld bare-handed, you will NOT get any drops due to the camping/anti-bot penalty.
- If you notice you don't get anything from a monster, move to a further area and kill some other monsters before returning.
- This does not affect dungeons and shadow missions.
- If you notice you don't get anything from a monster, move to a further area and kill some other monsters before returning.
- If you disconnect during Commerce for some reason, you will lose Ducats.
Things to do before reaching level 1000 cumulative
- Get all the Moon Gates and Mana Tunnels in Uladh and Iria.
- The traveler's guide stops being free past 10k cumulative.
- You may wish to avoid the moon gates in Tory Ravine and Avalon, since those are areas you will get to much, much later.
- The benefits of Memoir outweigh staying under total level 1k; Simply get the stuff mentioned above, then move on with the memory book for a faster character progression.
- This is also especially true since you will get free skill ranks by simply completing memoir.
Human alliance
- By having a human character on your account, you can get 2 free characters by talking to and allying yourself with Castanea of the Elves or Krug of the Giants. Get those free cards!
- Note that each character created also means more Bank Space and gold storage for you.
Cash Shop and Gachapon
- Mabinogi is a very gachapon-heavy, time-limited sales game. Not all gachapons will give you the same value return on investment either.
- Do make sure you are fine with the more common rewards when you choose to invest in one, as the rates for new things is usually abysmal.
- There is very little chance you will get that shiny *new* thing.
- Some items still present in the cash shop, like Enchant Protection Potions, Nao Soul Stones and Dyes can also be handed out during events.
- Arrows can be easily bought in blacksmith shops, and Elixirs can be found in dungeons these days. Read up on an item on the wiki if you are unsure.
- Pet gachapons are usually the best return-on-investment type of deal, since even the 'bad' rewards can be used for the Fynn Sync skill. The pets permanently in the cash shop are subpar these days.
- Beauty Coupons, used for all kinds of recent eye, hair, or mouth types are not permanent. If you switch to something else, you will need a coupon again to get what you had. However, you can save your features through the Dressing Room; saved features do not require using a coupon again when you switch back and forth.
- The same applies if you choose to change the gender of your character.
Gamble responsibly!
Gear and Equipment:
- Here is a brief list of things you should invest in; look these up.
- Skills. (Yes, all of them. Train those up. You will get more stats by ranking each skill.)
- The renown system
- Spirit Weapons
- Upgrading / Special Upgrading your weapon(s)
- Light / Heavy Armor
- Combat Power ; while most skills do not require CP anymore, knowing the basics of this will help you for other content.
- Fynn Pet / Pet Trainer skillset (this may be more long-term since the quest may be difficult early on)
Last but not least....
Resources
The mabinogi Discord is fairly active! If you wish to get help, resources and advice, it is a good place to go to. Other than that:
Have a good fantasy life!
Notes
I made this thing originally for the MabiNovel system but it is complete and utter carp to use.
