Mimic (Family)

Basic Information

  • Mimics 'mimic' treasure chests.
  • Mimics must be opened before they can be targeted.
    • However, they can still be hit and opened while they are closed with skills that are capable of dealing damage to multiple targets (e.g. Windmill, Stomp Splash Damage, etc.).
    • Mimics will immediately aggro once opened. Therefore, one may or may not get the first hit in.
      • Thus, it is not recommended to open Mimics during Deadly Status.
      • Mimics have 1 hit, causing their attack to instantly knock back if successful.
    • Mimics have a decent Critical Hit rate and can kill unwary, low HP players.
    • Stomp may be considered more ideal because it does not cause any of the Mimics to aggro, unlike Windmill. Each Mimic would then be open to subsequent attacks.
    • Players armed with Lances and Chain Blades can open Mimics from afar, allowing them to attack first.
  • Mimics have high Defense and Protection, so they may or may not be killed in a single hit.
  • Mimics appear in almost every dungeon, within the exception of Alby Intermediate, Ciar Intermediate and Baol Infiltration.
  • Pets can attack Mimics without having to "open" them if the pet is on "First Attack" mode.
    • Certain pets can open the real treasure chest in a room full of Mimics by using "Box!" command.
  • Even after aggroing, Mimics might hop around instead of constantly attacking.
  • Mimics drop their Fomor Scrolls quite often. Since ten Mimic Fomor Scrolls yield 12,000 Gold (via Hunting Quests sold by various NPCs throughout Uladh), they are popular targets for Fomor Scroll drops.
    • Does not apply to Ice Mimics, Sand Mimics, and Stone Mimics, however.
  • It is possible to open up Mimics from another angle. However, they will still either load Defense or turn around and attack.
  • Mimics will eventually turn back to their chest form if untouched.
    • If the player was in Play Dead and the Mimic returns to normal, when the player gets up the Mimic will instantly resume aggro.
  • If the player mounts and clicks on a Mimic, it will not open nor aggro. However, they will attack after dismounting.
    • If the player remounts, the Mimics will close up. If the player dismounts again, they will open and attack.
  • Opening all of the Mimics in a room is highly effective for Critical Hit training and Armor Proficiency training. They can easily be opened by using the above method.
  • To distinguish a Mimic from a real chest, there are seven possible ways:
    1. Load Windmill, and scroll your mouse over a Mimic/chest. Since chests are registered as a background, it will display an arrow with an X over it. It is a Mimic if a fist is displayed.
    2. Move your screen through the Mimic until it turns transparent which will allow you to see the teeth on a Mimic. If it lacks teeth, it is a chest.
    3. Mouse over the chests in the room and press the E key. Since E makes you attempt to Normal Attack, you will run toward the box if it is a Mimic. Pressing E on the real chest, however, will cause nothing to happen.
    4. Use Lullaby or Restful Wind next to a Mimic/chest. If successful, the Mimic will display "Zzz", but if that does not happen, then it is a chest.
    5. Load Bullet Storm, Shooting Rush, or Spinning Slasher, then hover your cursor near a Mimic/chest. If it has a red arrow over it, it is a Mimic, but if not it is a chest.
    6. Use Smokescreen on a mimic/chest, the mimic will display a shield icon for lost defense, if it does not, then it is a chest.
    7. Use Shadow Bind on a mimic/chest, a mimic will be bound in shadows, if it does not, then it is a chest.
  • Summoned Golems may open a Mimic and always perform the first hit due to their Rank 6 Instinctive Reaction.
