Talk:Thunder
I just tested talking to Stewart with "Newbie Elemental Master" title and thunder wand, and he gave me fireball quest.... i have lightning bolt and no high-level magic spells. I changed my title, while still holding thunder wand i talk to Stewart again and received the Thunder quest. I'm playing on the TW server which is in G8S1 right now. -Kuon
Let's try to leave info from both servers if we ever encounter with unexpected discrepancy. We will re-edit the page once the feature is finalized and implemented on NA server. - Uchocobo
For now I don't mind if we use your info, because if my data is true then we've got nothing to worry about, and if yours is... we still got nothing to worry about. The only thing is that in the Korean guide nothing about titles was mentioned, and I have thunder as well ;P -KitaeK27
I just noticed that the stat bonuses listed here are different from those on the rank-up window. We'll need someone to confirm which are right and which aren't. Currently my rank-up window says that rank B thunder gives +5mp, while this page (and the jp wiki) say it gives +6mp.Ziv 11:01, 1 July 2008 (PDT)

Aggro
do monsters other than the one targeted aggro imediately when hit? Sozen Cratos Focker 20:46, 5 July 2008 (PDT)
do high level spells not loose all their charges if nocked down? y does it say that for bolt spells, but not high level spells?
- Because that's what the developers wanted? The only bolt spell I know of that allows you to keep charges is firebolt.Ziv 20:31, 9 July 2008 (PDT)
the ribirthed only part of the place where everyone starts also has light gargoyles. it should be i nthe page chart. i dont remember what the place is calledSozen Cratos Focker 17:46, 9 July 2008 (PDT)
- Just because a monster is listed as dropping a page, doesn't mean ALL instances of that monster drop the page. And to answer your question, it's called the Forest of Souls but KitaeK27 removed it because it hasn't been confirmed whether those gargoyles drop the page. (I know he put a comment somewhere around here when he removed it, but I can't seem to find it) I personally haven't heard of anyone getting the page from themZiv 20:29, 9 July 2008 (PDT)
sadly, the rankup window in mabinogi is right, it is mp+5 will+1 only.W960i 20:37, 18 November 2008 (PDT)
I was unaware that black succubus dropped th4. In fact, the korean mabinogi guide says nothing about this, and none of the other sites do as well. I'm going to take it out unless someone can present to me with clear proof that black succubus drops th4. KitaeK27 21:15, 8 Feb 2009 (PDT)
- I don't concrete picture proof, but my only th4 that ever dropped was from the black succubus herself.--Kaillera 03:20, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah sorry about that, I just came back to correct myself after doing some reading. KitaeK27 22:25, 8 Feb 2009 (PDT)
- i just got a thunder pg4 from an treasure chest near the muyu desert moongate. and i can tell you absolute certainty that black sucubus drops it cause ive gotten 5 of them from her. Sozen Cratos Focker 05:28, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
initial "litning bolt"
does the initial litning bolt work the sale as regular litning bolt(instant nockback if there are more charges than monsters and whatnot)? and is the damage from the initial litning bolt based on the damage of the litningbolt skill? Sozen Cratos Focker 00:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- Not at all. It doesn't matter if you charged thunder once or five times, the initial thunder/lightning bolt should only stun the target. Unless the target is already sliding back due to getting hit from something else, then I guess the first bolt can knock the monster down, but it is really just for stunning. And Lightning Bolt rank has no affect on the initial thunder bolt. Montrios
- then should it really be refered to as a litningbolt?Sozen Cratos Focker 22:20, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Nope. xD but it still looks like one but I guess Thunder bolt would be the best name for it. Montrios
Lightning Bolt Synergy
I just noticed that someone added a line stating that higher ranks of Lightning Bolt increase the damage of Thunder. Is there any proof of this? Numbers, screen shots, anything? I'm wondering exactly how much of a difference this synergy between the two skills make. EnigmaticFractal 06:25, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- I really doubt it. My Thunder rank stayed the same but my lightning went from C to 2. I saw very slight increases in my Thunder damage amount but that's only probably because of the Int I gained from ranking up LB. It's really something hard to test since Thunder damage range is so vast it's difficult to tell if your damage got slightly higher or not. But I don't think LB has anything to do with Thunder, as illogical as that may seem. Montrios
- changes in int hardly do annything at alll to magic damageSozen Cratos Focker 04:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Int bonus formula? --Leyuu 03:04, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps the additional intellect damage is amplified when scaled when using Adv Magic or a wand? Its plausible. Also, its helps balance so there would be an increase in average damage done. Sogard6 20:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
This is just a rumor that i put in. I dont know if its true but assumed it was ~ Shadowboy132
- If you hear a rumor, either test it or put something about it on the talk page in hopes that someone else will test it. don't put something with as little credibility as a rumor on the page the second you hear it, you'll cause to much confusion if its wrong. Thunder+Knocking Down: Science, Not Chance
I recently made a change that combined the counter and smash points. This is because I have never seen this "Bad Chance" but have instead only witnessed it having specific effects. Whenever I have thundered, the target would be hit if and only if the target was not being knocked down or in a frozen animation. What I mean by frozen animation is being smashed or windmilling. Knocked down being flying backwards. If anyone else feels that this is untrue, go head and reverse my change. Rydrion 00:42, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Video
Someone put a video on this page. Is there anyway to make that bigger? --Caellian 18:14, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, to make it bigger just modify the lines in the flash object to thumb="false" and change the width="(insert desired width in pixels)" and height="(insert desired height in pixels)". However, you need to add the following changes by encapsulating the object in a div (div style="position: absolute; right: 1%;")[replace the brackets with triangle brackets] to make it show up correctly to the right. The only reason why I didn't commit the changes myself is that resizing the video makes it blurry and degrades the already terrible quality of the video. If it were up to me, someone should replace the video with something of higher quality. --Jinrai
- Incorrect, you just have to erase the "thumb" tag for sized video. The max resolution will be youtube sized. --Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 17:38, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Chaining Distance
This section of the article is really confusing:
- Thunder's chaining distance is constant for all ranks, but varies depending on the distance of the monsters from one another.
- For example, casting a full 5 charges of Thunder into a tightly-packed mob will mean that Thunder's average chaining distance is very short; it will most likely not chain to a more distant enemy sitting off the edge of the main mob.
- On the other hand, casting the same full charge onto a single enemy sitting in the middle of a slightly more spread-out mob will mean that Thunder's chaining distance is somewhat greater, meaning more chance to hit more enemies.
- In short, chaining works by a law of average distances, and tends not to exceed the average for a given mob.
I think I understand what it's trying to say, but it really isn't getting the job done. Suggest replacement with something more like:
- Thunder has a constant linear chaining distance at all ranks. Any monster within this linear distance from the initial target or another monster that has been hit, will be hit, up to the maximum number of targets.
I'm not sure I like the second sentence grammatically but it's better than what we had. I'll think about it a bit more before putting it on the page. This way, the mechanics of chaining are more clearly explained; one can easily draw the other conclusions mentioned for oneself. Someone let me know if I've completely missed the mark on the mechanic.
--Inemnitable 15:11, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
I thought of a better way to say it.
- Thunder has a constant linear chaining distance at all ranks. It will chain to any monster within this range from the initial target, then to any monster within range from those monsters, and so on until there are no more monsters in range or the maximum number of targets has been reached.
This mechanic seems testable, so I will put off merging it into the page until I can verify it. Anyone interested in helping me test this in PvP, please contact me through the wiki or in game. I'll probably need at least 4-5 people to help.

Currently the values for Number of Targets Hit on 1st Charge are set to "?". For Dan 1 I've confirmed the number of targets hit on 1st Charge to still be 4. Additionally, graphics for the skill changed to a dark purple glow. I suggest adding video or screenshot comparison for pre-Dan and post-dan skill graphics.

- After completing the quest, a 1x2 Collection Book, Electric Magic for the Advanced - Thunder, is given. Be sure to have enough inventory space.
- Unlike Fireball, Arrow Revolver, or Shock, the book is a collection book rather than pages being enchanted into it. The pages also do not need to be placed in order
and they do not expire.

*sigh*
Why is the spell called "Thunder"? Shouldn't it be called lightning? Thunder is just sound, no electric. Is this a translation mistake?
The spell is called thunder because when you look in the magic skill tab there's a skill called thunder. I suppose you should also notify GameFreak and ask if they've mistranslated Pikachu's attacks for 15 years.
KR: 썬더 (Sseondeo, translates to Thunder)
JP: サンダー (Sandā, lit. Thunder)
Totally...plus as I recall, KR actually has "Thunder" in plain english under the korean name.
Mistranslated, seemingly no but we have no idea what their intent was and shouldn't assume that. Could they have better translated a lot of skills names in NA than they did, or at least fixed some names? Yes probably, but that's more of an opinionated discussion that should be on a forum or some other venue rather than on the wiki, unless you have some evidence that it was mistranslated.
(And yea, I agree a lot of skills names would have been better off being renamed in NA rather than being identical to what KR called them, the other way around as well.)
Did everything right, quest didnt appear in quest tab, book didnt appear. Anyone saw a bug like this before? Thanks
If we're resistant to stun, would the initial attack from Thunder not stop us?
I have Rank Novice Thunder and when I'm using it with a staff, the bolts immediately impaled after I used it.
Did it change or does staff have some impact on Thunder?
The wiki lists that a Fomor Lightning Wand won't work (and I found that to be true for the Ice Spear quest as well when obtaining it), however it seems that something changed recently and the Fomor Lightning Wand is correctly identified and will start the quest to obtain Thunder. I have changed the page's text to reflect this (though I'm not sure which update fixed the requirement), here's a screenshot for proof.
I'm almost positive that page 4 is only the succubi, but just in case could somebody fix where pages 3 and 4 are blended.
