[Chain Slash] Who Owns the Runestone?

An item has been found, and it looks similar to something I've seen on your Chain Blade. Why don't you come by? - Duncan

Duncan
Hey (Character Name), I came across something odd, and I was wondering if you might know anything about it.

(Duncan takes something out of his pocket and hands it to you.)
Engraved Runestone (from Duncan)
What is it? It looks like that stone embedded in your Chain Blade...

Duncan
A Runestone? You don't say...I took it from the town's lost and found... It was a moment of weakness, okay?! It looks so expensive, I couldn't resist... But then I felt guilty, so I've decided to try to find its real owner... Maybe you could help me?

(Hm... You figure that the church would be a good place to start such a search. There will be lots of busybody churchgoers who are likely to notice when someone owns an expensive item.)

(You received an Engraved Runestone.)

Endelyon Hi there, (Character Name). Anything I can help you with?

(You show her the Runestone Duncan gave you.)

Endelyon
Oh, how lovely! Look how elaborate the engravings are... the person who lost this must be devastated.
Hm... I was just at the Magic School donating some Holy Water of Lymilark. I overheard talk of Mana Stones; it sounded like someone was doing deep research about them. Maybe the engraved stone you showed me is one of those!
Why don't you go to the school and ask about it? The teacher of Tir Chonaill Magic School is Lassar.

(You move to the school.)

Lassar
Hello, (Character Name)! What's your business?

(You show her the Runestone from Duncan.)

Lassar Hm, this is a Runestone containing very powerful mana!
What you heard from Endelyon is correct. We do have a resident researcher here right now, and his area of expertise is magical geology, so he probably knows a lot about both Runestones and Mana Stones!
I think he's taking a break at the back of the school at the very moment, actually. Go and talk to him. He's wearing glasses.

[Chain Slash] A Spirit for Adventure

I hear you've found yourself a very unique Runestone. - ???

(A strange bespectacled boy in blue is standing in the Magic School's yard. He must be the boy Lassar mentioned, the one researching Mana Stones and Runestones.)

Bespectacled Boy
Hmm... Yes... So that would mean...

(He's so deep in thought, he doesn't even notice you approaching.)

> Prompt: Poke him. or Stare, mouth agape.

Bespectacled Boy
Ahhhh!!

(In his fright, the boy nearly knocks his glasses off.)

Bespectacled Boy
What was that for?! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?! Yeesh!

> Prompt: Abruptly shove the Runestone under his nose.
Engraved Runestone (from Bespectacled Boy)
(His eyes grow wide as saucers the moment he notices the Runestone, and he stares at you incredulously.)

Bespectacled Boy
Wh-where did you find my Runestone? I didn't think I'd ever see it again.
You see, I'm a Mana Stone research specialist. This stone was of particular interest to me, because it contains someone's personal memories!
I was researching how such a small Runestone could hold such powerful mana and decided the best way to do it would be to visit Alby Dungeon to see the memories for myself.
But... well... I'm a terrible adventurer. I had to leave the Runestone behind. I barely escaped with my life!

(He looks up at you with mournful eyes.)

Bespectacled Boy
You're (Character Name), right? You seem much stronger than me. Maybe... YOU could go to Alby Dungeon to investigate the story behind this Runestone instead!
There must be a reason you ended up with this Runestone instead of me! You never know. The memory could be from someone strong like you! What do you say? You're more than up to the task!

(You receive the Engraved Runestone.)

(You offer the Runestone to the Alby Dungeon altar. Then, you are whisked into the memory contained within.)

Shadow Mission: The Lifelong Memories

(A woman with long, silky blond hair stands before you. Is she the original owner of the Runestone? Only the memory can reveal that information.)

Eiren
Hm...
Quickly! If I don't find a clue now, it'll be too late.
Wait... This is...
...
It's trying to lure other monsters to me. I don't have time for this! Time to get mean.

(The mysterious woman vanquishes all of the incoming monsters with her Chain Blade.)

Eiren
To be a successful Chain Slasher, you'll need to constantly evaluate how much Dorcha you can leech with each normal Chain Blade attack. That's the fundamental thing.
Professor J is waiting for us. Let's defeat the rest and get out of here.

(She continues fight her way through hordes of monsters.)

Eiren
That was disgraceful. You were clearly not prepared to face me.
How do they find me when I'm investigating? And why do they always attack me?

(With impressive skill, she takes down several Giant Gold Spiders.)

Eiren
I'm so sick of these Fomors. But what can we do to stop them when we don't have a single lead? I can't even find any clues in this area.

(Just then, Starlet, Merlin, and Professor J enter the dungeon room to address the mysterious woman.)

Merlin
You've covered so much ground already. How is it going? Find anything?

(The three Ace heroes walk over to the mysterious woman. You then find yourself pulled from the Runestone's memory. You stare down at your hands and become enveloped in a strange, dark aura. After it disappears, you raise both of your hands again, this time one by one, and observe them carefully before ultimately deciding to leave. A mysterious robed figure enters the scene upon your departure.)

???
Hehehe... all according to plan.

(MISSION END)

(You head back to report your findings to the boy.)

Bespectacled Boy
How was your trip...? What memories did you see? And whose were they?!

(The runestone is gone! Your head is still spinning like a top, but you describe what you saw. The boy's eyes light with excitement the more you talk.)

Bespectacled Boy
You saw a strange woman, did you? And she was powerful... That explains the weird mana I was sensing.
It's really too bad I couldn't experience that memory personally. I need a lot more information. But there's no sense crying over a vanished Runestone, I suppose.
Well, thanks anyway, (Character Name)! You were more useful than I expected. I've been interested in that Runestone's story for quite a while.
Tell Chief Duncan I recovered the item without a hitch. It wasn't the Runestone that was important anyway; I needed the tale wrapped within the mana.

> On-screen message: The information this boy's telling you could prove to be valuable. Try to remember it!

Duncan
So you found the owner of the Runestone? Did you give it back?

> Prompt You gave it to the owner. or You did not find the owner, but...

[Chain Slash] Missing Link

Last time I saw you, you didn't look so well. Did something happen? - Duncan

Duncan
(Character Name), you…

(Duncan looks at you, biting his lip with nervousness.)

Duncan
There's something I've been wanting to ask you... Is everything okay? I don't mean to offend, but there's something off about you. Something... I don't know... creepy.

(Now that he mentions it, you DID hear that weird voice inside your head a short while ago. But you don't want to talk about it.)

Duncan
I'm worried about you. Keep your friends close and don't be afraid to ask for help, okay?

(You strain to remember... did you start hearing voices after seeing the memory in Alby Dungeon? Maybe you should look for the people you saw back then...)

Merlin
à Hey, (Character Name)! What are you doing here? We're on a picnic!

Professor J
Starlet and I can speak for ourselves, thanks!

Merlin
But... Professor! Isn't my work far more important than someone investigating purely based on a hunch?

Starlet
Merlin.

Merlin
...

Starlet
Merlin?

Merlin ...
Ugh, fine. Nevermind.

Professor J
I know it's a shot in the dark, but it's too important to give up hope.

Merlin
I know! I'm just frustrated.

(Maybe you should come back after they've worked this out.)

Starlet
Sorry, (Character Name). What's going on?

(While Merlin and Professor J discuss things, you tell Starlet about the woman at Alby Dungeon.)

(She immediately gives you a startled look.)

Starlet
...How do you know about that?

(You realize even Merlin and Professor J have gone silent.)

Starlet
What you saw wasn't a dream or an illusion. It was something that really happened. But it was a long time ago...
How were you able to see it? I think our research is somehow connected to what you experienced.

Merlin
Starlet, don't drag (Character Name) into this. It's our problem.

Professor J
...
Not anymore. Can't you feel (Character Name)'s energy? It's exactly the same as what we're looking for.

> Prompt: Similar energy...?

Merlin
Professor, what's all this nonsense?
Did you already forget how we got to this point? We had to prevent exposing its existence.
It makes no sense. How can you sense it from (Character Name)? There's just no way for that to be true.
...?
...What?

(Merlin's expression quickly turns to one of shock when he looks at you.)

Merlin
(Character Name)... What happened to you? Why DO I sense the Sluagh's energy on you?

> Prompt: The Sluagh...?

> On-screen message: Hm... I've not met anyone powerful enough to detect me in quite some time...

Professor J
You only just noticed, Merlin? (Character Name), how did you get that thing stuck on you?

Merlin
You aren't really going to grow that thing, are you?

> Prompt: What do you mean? or What? You can grow the Sluagh?

Starlet
Merlin...
...
Merlin has his reasons. Just trust him. You'll understand once you return.

(It seems the only way forward is to visit Alby Dungeon again.)

(You offer the Old Tassel you received to the Alby Dungeon altar. Then, you are whisked into the memory contained within.)

Shadow Mission: Whispering Voice

(The memory melts into another scene.)

Starlet Unfortunately, that which you seek is not here.

Eiren
...I see. I'm sorry for sending you on a fool's errand again, Starlet.

Starlet
It's fine. This is obviously very important to you.
And after all, we're comrades, are we not?

Eiren
Hmmm.
...Thank you, always.

Starlet
Should we go back? I think the other two already left.

Eiren
(Sometimes, Starlet is surprisingly mature for her age.)
...
Heh.

> On-screen message: Ha... haha...

Eiren
(Is it going to happen again...?)

(You shouldn't dwell on that question. For now, you should just follow Starlet.)

> 'On-screen message: The Fomor blood in your veins...Thinking about that keeps me awake at night.

Eiren Ah...

Sluagh take over Eiren
(No, you won't let it control you...)

> On-screen message: Give up, already. Let your true desires take over.

Eiren
My...

(It's trying to... consume your soul.)

(No... Starlet is with me...)

...
Hmm...
...

Starlet Eiren, let's get out of here. You're not going to find it. ...Eiren?
Wait... what's wrong?
... ...Eiren? Can you hear me?

(The memory reveals a room in Alby Dungeon, where Starlet and a possessed Eiren stand.)

> On-screen message: Noisy and annoying... Get rid of that woman.

(After a bit of a scuffle, Eiren defeats Starlet.)

On-screen Message: (Starlet! Oh, no, what are you doing?!)

(Just then, Merlin and Professor J show up.)

Starlet Uh, um… Merlin
Starlet!!!!!!!!!

(Merlin and Professor J are sprinting towards Eiren from the entrance.)

Merlin
Eiren, what are you doing?!

Eiren
...

Starlet
Merlin. No, that's not... That's not Eiren!

Professor J Starlet, are you alright? Are you hurt? Stay back! Merlin and I will put a stop to this.

> On-screen message:(If only you had better control of the Sluagh...)

(Merlin and Professor J engage Eiren.)

>Onscreen message: (All the suffering... you realize it is all your fault.)

(The two Aces try to hold Eiren off, however she defeats them.)

Eiren
...

Merlin
Eiren... Please. It's too much. I don't want to hurt you!

Professor J
We must find a way to calm her, or she will be completely taken over by the Sluagh!

Eiren
...

> Onscreen message: (You wish, not for the first time, that you weren't half-Fomor. What use is your power in a situation like this?)

Merlin
I know! Come on, Eiren! Wake up!

Professor J
Maybe it was all of the Fomor attacks. Or maybe this was their plan all along.
It was our fault. If only I had noticed sooner.

Starlet
Eiren... Did anyone hear that? I thought I heard something earlier...

Eiren
...

> Onscreen message: (You need Bachram's power.)

Starlet
She's saying something, but... I can't understand.

Merlin
Is that the Sluagh? It's' [sic] must be controlling Eiren.
Starlet! Professor! Try to calm that thing down. We're all in serious danger right now!

Professor J
You're right. We need to revert her to her original form at all costs.

Merlin
This is too dangerous. How can we possibly succeed?

Starlet
...Eiren...

Eiren
...

> Onscreen message: (...sorry...)

(Suddenly, you're surrounded by darkness. This must be the end of the memory. You should see what Merlin has to say about this.)

(MISSION END)

Merlin
...
...I see. so you saw it.
Her name is Eiren. Long ago, she was one of us. She was a Chain Slasher who drew power from a spirit called the Sluagh that was bound to her.
But the Sluagh was challenging to control... ...even for her.
As you saw, wielding the Sluagh's power is dangerous. And I can feel that same energy in you.

Professor J
Have you experienced visions lately? That's the Sluagh's voice. She was the same...

Starlet
Be careful when you use the Sluagh's power. It's truly a double-edged sword. The stronger it gets, the more it controls you.
...Eiren always resisted that power.
But even she was eventually swallowed by that darkness...

Merlin
Starlet, it's not your fault. There's nothing we could have done. It was so difficult for her...

> Prompt: Because she was half Fomor?

Merlin Wh-what?!
Starlet
...!

Professor J
(Character Name), how did you know Eiren was half Fomor? We were supposed to be the only ones who knew.

> Prompt: The voice of Eiren echoes throughout your mind. or The Sluagh voice sounds like it is everywhere at once.

Professor J
You're hearing more voices than just our own?

Starlet
It was just the three of us, but then... Eiren... changed. It must have been excruciating for her... her screams...

(The other Ace heroes don't seem to have noticed, but you can clearly understand her.)

(She must have been resisting the Sluagh...)

> Prompt: Tuairnan or Bachram or Tuairen

Professor J
...Bachram. I've not heard that word in a while. You could only know if you really did hear her.

Merlin
How fascinating! How did you understand her when we couldn't?

Starlet
Perhaps the share energy grants you more insight. Hm, but how?
Merlin, we already know how to find out.

(As they realization hits them, they nod to each other and begin to approach you.)

Merlin
(Character Name), can you... talk to her as she is now?

Professor J
I know it seems a bit strange to you, but... well... See for yourself, and you'll understand.

Merlin
This must be the way! I can feel it! But, I'll have to explain later. Head to the front of Peaca Dungeon for now.

Professor J
I'll be waiting.

[Chain Slash] Where She Sleeps

The strength of the Sluagh inside you will be the key to understanding her. - Merlin

(You meet with the Aces at the entrance of Peaca Dungeon.)

Merlin
You're here. Good. This is going to be difficult.

Professor J
Merlin, we'd better explain what's going on here.
I'm sorry you had to come all the way out here, but it's the only we can know for sure.

Merlin
The memory you saw... well, after that... We barely managed to calm her down. I may be a great mage but, I'm just not experienced with that kind of power.
In the end, Eiren made her decision. That decision meant we could never speak of her or her power ever again.

Starlet
We tried every option we could think of, but in the end none of us had the knowledge or strength to help her.

Merlin We can't change the past.
What we need from you is simple, (Character Name). Go see Eiren directly. If you could understand her in that memory, then I think you have a shot at helping her now.

> Prompt: I am ready. or Not yet...

Merlin Here, take this. I've set up magical barriers in a secret location. This will get you past them. Place it on the Peaca Dungeon alter. Now, go!

(You offer the Mystic Pass to the Peaca Dungeon altar. This location seems to be in the deepest reaches of Peaca.)

Shadow Mission: Her Safe Haven

(You enter the dungeon to see Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J ahead of you. Merlin beckons you to follow them and you are led to a room where Eiren appears to be contained within a crystal. The three Ace heroes look over to you as you step toward it)

Starlet
...

Merlin
...This place is the same as ever.
This is a secure space of my own devising. I've created several contraptions to keep it safe.

Professor J
...It's been some time since I've been here.

(It seems there are many mixed emotions about the crystal. Why not take a closer look?)

(You touch the crystal.)
Chainslash - Player touch crystal.png
(You gingerly lay a hand on the smooth surface of the crystal. It's cold to the touch.)

(...)

(A blood-chilling power radiates from the crystal and seeps into your fingers. It's so cold you're almost shivering.)

(...The cold envelops your whole body...there's no escape...)
> On- screen Message: (...Who...are you?)

(...?!)

(You can just hear a faint voice calling out, and it feels as if someone is reaching to you from the inside of the crystal.)

On-screen Message: (Tell me. Who are you?)

(This time the intent is clear. Someone is waiting for your reply. What should you do?)

> Prompt: Tell her your name.

Onscreen Message: (Hmm. (Character Name). What a unique name.)

(...)

Eiren
...Hm...
...This place...

(The image of a woman slumbering within a crystal forms in your mind. It comes to you as an echo of a distant dream.)

(Her eyes, two different colors, suddenly lock you in her gaze...)

Eiren
You...how did you...?

(You jerk your hand back from the crystal, flinching in shock.)

(You experience a sense of being dragged back to reality from the depths of the ocean as you regain consciousness, and you open your eyes to find yourself surrounded by the worried expressions of the three Ace heroes.)

Merlin
(Character Name)! Are you okay? What happened? Are you sick?

Starlet
Once you touched the crystal, it started glowing. Did you have a vision? What did you see?

(A quick glance at the crystal reveals the silhouette of a sleeping woman. You compose yourself and explain.)

Merlin
...I see.
Eiren's powers come from the Sluagh. It's why I thought someone with that same power might have a reaction to the crystal.

Professor J It seems my hypothesis was correct. Did you get any response from her? All we could do was watch you.

(Professor J grazes the surface of the crystal with his fingertip, but nothing happens.)

Merlin
It didn't respond to me either. Eiren created this with her own power, so its mana is entirely different from mine.

Starlet
Hmm...
It seems this crystal only responds to you, (Character Name).

(The Sluagh's power residing in you resonates with the crystal. What would happen if you touched it again?)

(You inspect the crystal again)
Player touch crystal
(You place your hand on the crystal again.)

(...)

(A strange force, chilly as the crystal's surface, invades your body.)

(...)

Eiren
...
...I apologize for my actions earlier.
I didn't think it was possible for someone to wake me.

(The voice of that mysterious woman echoes within you The feeling is most akin to a telepathic connection.)

Eiren
...They're the same.
I suppose you're the only one who can talk to me like this. Pity...
...
I haven't formally introduced myself. I'm Eiren. I was once a friend... to those three who now call you companion.
Hm...
Speaking with someone... ...after so long... It's so strange.
You are... (Character Name).
I have so many questions. How did you come here? Why are you able to communicate with me?
And, most importantly... what is your relationship with Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J?
...
...!
...You, you also carry the Sluagh inside you.
But your power is unstable. You cannot leave it in that state. It's too dangerous. It could turn on you.
Hm...
Yes, I can explain more later.
If you're friends with Merlin, then you must be worthy of trust.

(Eiren spends a moment in concentration, then continues.)

Eiren
We should handle urgent matters first. If we continue this way, your consciousness may become overwhelmed by the Sluagh. I'll teach you how to control it for now.
Close your eyes for a moment...

(You soon find yourself standing in an empty space.)

(Eiren stands before you with her arms crossed casually in front of her.)

Eiren
...Surprised?
I thought perhaps we could communicate through the Sluagh, but I wasn't expecting this.
I transferred some of my Sluagh's power to you. Lo and behold... that allowed us to stink deeper into our own minds. This is how truly evolved creature, like us, communicate.
What you perceive as my body is not my body, for I'm still sealed inside the crystal.

(She sure seems calm for having been trapped for such a long time...)

Eiren
You still don't understand what the Sluagh is, do you? The Sluagh is sort of a negative spirit that leeches harmful emotions from enemies: Fear, depression, rage... Collectively, they're identified as Dorcha. The Sluagh draws power from thse emotions to unleash powerful attacks against enemies.
If you deal a normal attack with a Chain Blade, you will leech Dorcha from the struck enemy.
You can see the amount of Dorcha you've leeched in the gauge to the left. Be sure to keep on[sic] eye on it during battle.
The tradeoff is, if you continue leeching Dorcha, you could eventually be consumed by the Sluagh.

(Her happy expression flickers to one of sadness for just a moment.)

Eiren
All this time, I thought I was the only one who bore the power of the Sluagh. It's facisnating to meet another like me.
Dorcha Gauge instruction
Eiren
Why don't we start with how to get Dorcha? If you hit an enemy with the Chain Blade, you'll leech the Dorcha you need for more attacks. Pretty simply right?
The Chain Blade is already in your hand. But remember, once you leave this resonance, it will disappear.

> On-screen Message: Try leeching 10 Dorcha by attacking monsters.

(You attack the Ghosts in order to gain the necessary Dorcha.)

> Onscreen Message: I daresay you have potential... keep going!

(The Runestone acts as a conduit for the Dorcha you leech from the enemies whenever you use the Chain Blade.)

Eiren
Well then, now you know how to leech Dorcha, yes?
Again, Dorcha is built from the enemy's negative energy. Your body can only handle so much at one time. Once you reach your limit, you'll need to consume it with a skill.

Celtic Howling Chain Blade
Eiren
The Runestone embedded in the Chain Blade helps you leech and consume Dorcha and controls the Dorcha's overall flow. It's imperative that you not break it.
Now try the Chain Impale skill using Dorcha. You'll learn the basics of controlling the Sluagh by practicing leeching and consuming Dorcha.
Chain Impale nearby enemies and pierces them right through!
It would be faster if you tried it for yourself.

(You attack the Ghosts that appear in the space and gain Dorcha. Using that Dorcha, you then make use the of Chain Impale skill.)

> On-screen Message: Excellent! You have potential, after all! Practice makes perfect!

Eiren
Hey... you learn pretty quickly. You already know how to leech Dorcha and placate the Sluagh.
So let's put everything together, now. And remember, you'll only use Chain Impale after you leech enough Dorcha.

(Using the skills you've learned, you slaughter the Ghosts fidgeting before you.)

> On-screen Message: Defeat the monster using everything you've learned.

> On-screen Message: You're doing well, for someone that I had zero expectations for.

> On-screen Message: You know, you just might be able to overcome the darkness of the Sluagh...

> On-screen Message: Most people succumb to the Sluagh inhabiting them, but you have shown remarkable control.

Eiren
Not bad. You learn fast! So tell me, are you the newest member of the Ace heroes?

> Prompt: Not really. or I wish!

(Eiren's eyes sparkle with amusement as you speak. She seemes genuinely happy to hear your stories of Erinn.)

Eiren
...
...
...Hm, I see. Milletian... from the stars...
Milletian, Milletian...
Do you think you can accomplish what I could not?

(Eiren stares at you, daring you to answer.)

Eiren
Hm... I've been awake for some time, and I've grown very tired with all the excitement. Perhaps we can meet again soon?
Now then...

(...)

(The air begins to shift and swirl around you.)

Eiren
There's not a lot I can do in my sealed state. Though I'm surprised I have quite so little energy.
Well, you know how to use Dorcha, even if it is only the basics. That should keep you safe for now.
...
There's so much more I want to know, but communicating like this is taxing for me.
Would you please find me again soon? There's so much more I can teach you about controlling the Sluagh.
Please tell the others about me.
Oh, and one more thing...
Could you ask Merlin if the advice I gave him is working out? I've always been curious.
Hm... I think I've reached the limits of my ability today.
I never thought I'd speak to anyone again. It was... refreshing.

(As you release your hold on the crystal, you hear Eiren mutter something unintelligible.)

(When you finally drag yourself back to reality, you can sense that the crystal's power is spent. You'll have to wait before you can contact Eiren again.

(MISSION END)

(Talk to Merlin.)

Merlin
How did it go? Could you hear Eiren's voice?
Ah, but I suppose you can't speak in a sealed state. Could you feel or hear anything that might be useful?

(As you explain how the power of the Sluagh linked you, Merlin grows more and more skeptical.)

Professor J
That's quite surprising actually. Are you sure? All we saw was you holding the crystal with your eyes closed.
To think you were able to talk to her... What did she say?

Merlin
I can only imagined[sic] how trapped she must feel. If only we could get her out of there.

Starlet
...
How did Eiren look?

(Their concern for Eiren is touching, and you feel compelled to share everything you can with them.)

Merlin
She told you to come back? But... She doesn't plan to be sealed forever, does she?

Professor J
Sealed as she was for so long, it's surprising she's managed to maintain her calm demeanor.
Everything went according to plan. She was able to withstand the Sluagh, and maintain her consciousness.

Starlet
And she's returned to sleep since your conversation? She said the crystal would limit her power. It must have taken everything she had to speak with you.
But she asked you to return to her, which means you may be able to help free her from the seal!

Merlin
I think you might be right, Starlet!

Professor J
There's no way to know for sure. But if Eiren asked that of you, then there may be hope for her after all.
And I'm sure she wouldn't want (Character Name) to suffer the same fate she did. That must be why she taught you how to control the Sluagh.

Starlet
Let's go. We can come back the next time we need to talk to Eiren.
There are so many things I wish I could say to Eiren right now.

(Starlet gazes at you with envious eyes. What happened all those years ago?)

(What was it Eiren wanted to ask Merlin? Oh yeah...)

> Prompt: Ask about the advice Merlin got.

(Merlin immediately begins coughing and sputtering in surprise.)

Merlin W-W-W-W-What Advice?! I... uh... um... W-What are you talking about?

(Well, Merlin certainly got flustered in a hurry. Just what kind of advice was that?)

Starlet
What's wrong, Merlin? Eiren gave you advice?

Merlin
Uh, yeah! But it's nothing! Just... How can I put this?
We talked about... the future of the Aces... things like that.

Professor J
...
That doesn't seem like nothing. Let's talk about it later.

Merlin
Anyway, (Character Name)...
So you spoke with Eiren after all. There's no other way you could have known...
I guess that was Eiren's way of proving to us that she's really awakened.

(Merlin leans in to speak to you in a confidential whisper.)

Merlin
She didn't... share anything untoward, right? It's a bit of an embarrassing subject for me.

(It's clear he's uncomfortable about the topic.)

(Eiren might be able to shed some light on the matter once she reawakens.)

[Chain Slash] Blood of the Fomor

How did it go with Eiren? I'd certainly be surprised if you had control of the Sluagh already... - Professor J
Professor J
... (Character Name).
The Sluagh must be bound within you. How strange. I don't know how you can communicate with her while she's still sealed.

Eiren with friends
Professor J
We met Eiren a very long time ago. She had a powerful but practical approach to everything she did. We depended on her so much.

Starlet It didn't matter how many mistakes I made. Eiren was always at my side helping me. She was like a big sister I could always depend on.

Professor J
...
We respected her decision, because we respected her.

Starlet
...

Merlin
But maybe now you can help us find another solution. After all this time, we have another chance!
(Character Name), if you can train with her, you'll be able to control the Sluagh's power. You'll find Eiren waiting where we sealed her.

> Prompt: I will go now. or Later.

> I will go now.

Merlin
Take this. If you lose it, just talk to me again.

(You receive another Mystic Pass from Merlin.)

(You offer the Mystic Pass to the Peaca Dungeon altar. As you enter the sealed place where Eiren is resting, you notice Merlin standing by the open doorway leading to the next room, beckoning for you to come speak to him.)

Shadow Mission: Sealed Hero

Merlin
(Character Name)! I have to tell you something!
What Eiren told you to ask me about...

(You've never seen Merlin this agitated.)

Merlin
That advice? Well...

(Merlin makes a show of clearing his throat before continuing.)

Merlin
Please tell Eiren that... well... I'm not the scared boy I used to be.
I've learned and grown so much as a person.
I've even become the leader of the Ace heroes! She doesn't need to worry about me anymore.

(Merlin looks as though a huge weight has been lifted from his shoulders. Surely Eiren will know what he means.)

Merlin
I'm glad that's off my chest... I hate keeping things bottled up inside!
Now please, meet with Eiren again and tell her what I've told you here.

(He then turns around and immediately dashes off.)

(You move into the next room to find the Aces surrounding the crystal that sealed Eiren)

(When talking to Merlin before touching the crystal)

(He winks at you and approaches.)

Merlin
You didn't forget about what I asked, right? Hurry! Go talk to Eiren.

(You touch the crystal.)

Player touch crystal
(Once again, you reach out your hand to touch the crystal's smooth surface.)

(A strange chill creeps up your fingertips and across your whole body.)

(...)

Eiren
...
...
...
You came back. Welcome.
Have you adjusted to the Sluagh? It's a bit tricky, I know, but you're adjusting more quickly than I had anticipated.
Perhaps it's because you're a Milletian. You said there are more like you?
...
Hm, so much has changed since I was sealed away. And there is so much to learn about the world now.
What's happened to Erinn while I've been gone? Are Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J doing alright? And... who are the new members of the Aces?
...
Perhaps one day I can break free and see them again.
...
Until I can break free of the seal, I can only talk to you. But that's alright. It's the only way to control the Sluagh... the only way to protect the people of Erinn.
Do you know how I was sealed? I know you got a glimpse of my past.

(She continues calmly.)

Eiren
It's strange to speak of it after all this time...
You already know that Fomor blood runs through my veins. You see, one of my parents was a Fomor.
They possessed tremendous power. It's a wonder all that power didn't have more of an effect on my appearance. You wouldn't know my heritage by my look.
But it doesn't relieve me of my fate.

(Her calm voice suddenly takes on a dark tone.)

Eiren
I was born bearing the terrible burden of the Sluagh, a blight that has been with my family for generations. ...

Eiren with friends
Eiren
Still... the day I learned to control it. I wouldn't trade this power for anything. The strength of the Sluagh is what brought me to them. Even bickering as often as we did, my best memories are of the Aces. They were the one bright spot in my life.

(Eiren's expression softens at the memory.)

But, the Fomors seek power, and mine was irresistible to them.

Eiren with friends
Eiren
I was in an endless struggle against them.
But no matter how skilled and powerful I was, there was always a limit to how much I could do.
The Fomors grew more persistent with each passing day, their numbers ever increasing, always attacking. Some days, it was all we could do to keep them at bay.
The more I think about it, the more certain I become. They weren't just attacking me and the Aces.
They were testing my physical and mental limits. They never stopped trying to push me past my breaking point.
...
I'm sorry. I can't keep talking about this. It pains me to remember. On the outside I may look sealed here, but inside of me the Sluagh runs rampant, leaving footprints outlined in fire wherever it steps.

(Her voice quavers and she shakes her head.)

Eiren
We must make absolutely certain that you are well-armed against the Sluagh inside you. I will teach you another method of controlling it.
There are temporary things we can do now to prevent the Sluagh from taking over your body. It's a fate I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, so I'll do everything I can to help you.
Being sealed and alone for so long is... challenging.
Hm, you came back.
Now then, are you ready?

> Prompt: I am ready.' or Not yet...

Eiren
Let's see if we can't strengthen our resonance this time. Close your eyes and just... relax.

(...)

(Eiren appears before you again, yet her physical body still remains in the crystal.)

Eiren
...Surprised?
Ahaha, sorry. I couldn't resist the chance to surprise you again.
You remember how to leech Dorcha from your enemies and use it to supplement your own skills, right?
Well, sometimesthe situation requires a large amount of Dorcha right away.
In those cases, use the Dorcha Conversion skill. It can transform HP into Dorcha on the spot.
You're basically feeding large amount of HP to the Sluagh. But, do that too much, and you may end up worse off than you started.
For practice, I made it so you can only get Dorcha through Dorcha Conversion. And the monsters you're about to face can only be harmed by Chain Impale.
Practice with Dorcha Conversion by using Chain Impale to attack. If you need HP, use some potions.

(You practice on the Ghosts using Dorcha Conversion and Chain Impale)

> On-screen Message: Most excellent, most excellent. (Character Name). Let's give it one more go.

Eiren Good work, (Character Name). Remember, this skill is really only intended for emergency situations. Once you're back to reality, you should get used to the Chain Blades before you try using it again.
Now, I think you're ready for a new offensive skill called Chain Crush.
Chain Cruch grapples a distant enemy, swings them up into the air, then crashes them down into the ground.
You barely have to lift a finger to damage your enemies with this one.
I've replenished the health you lost using Dorcha Conversion. Since your normal attacks leech Dorcha, it will make Chain Crush much more effective.

(You leech Dorcha from the nearby Ghosts and practice using the Chain Crush skill on them.)

> On-screen Messages: You gotta leech some Dorcha to use the skill, you know! You have potential, after all!

Eiren
Ha ha!
The more I see, the more I'm amazed at how quickly you learn. I suppose I should expect nothing less from a member of the Ace heroes.
Now it's time to test what you've learned. Defeat all of the summoned ghosts. And don't let their adorable looks slow you down. This is your chance to show off your best moves.

(Using everything Eiren taught you thus far, you proceed to eliminate the Ghosts.)

> On-screen Message: It looks like you've really taken a shine to your shiny new Chain Blade.

Eiren
Hmm...
Your form could use some work, but you ought to be proficient with the Chain Blade in no time.
And that's all I have the energy for today. There are so many limitations with a sealed body.
We can continue your lessons again soon.

(...)

(The air begins to shift and swirl around you.)

Eiren
If it wasn't for the seal, using this much mana would be easier than breathing.
Nothing we can do about it for now, though.
If I could, I'd teach you everything I know today, but it's better that you improve your form first. For now, use the Chain Blade to practice Chain Crush, and we can cover more the next time I see you.

> Prompt: Nod your head. or Ask where to learn Dorcha Conversion.

Eiren
...
Dorcha is pure darkness and strenghthens the Sluagh's power. It's the manifestation of the enemy's rage, pain, fear, violence...
It's a darkness that can be found in even the best of us.
And the Sluagh feeds on that darkness. A powerful, terrible spirit dwells within me.
I used to hate it... I hated what it made me. The fact that I grew more powerful from the pain and suffering of others sickened me.
...
But I learned to live with it and use that power to protect what was good in the world.
Starlet said...
Well, when she spoke with me about it, I suddenly felt as thought I'd been spared from a terrible fate.

(Eiren brightens every time she talks about the Ace heroes. What was it Merlin wanted to say to Eiren?)

> Prompt: Tell her what Merlin said

(You quickly relay Merlin's message.)

Eiren
Hm...
Merlin said that?
He was always a mischievous little brat. It seems he's finally grown out of it. Perhaps Starlet sees the good in him too.
I still remember how upset he got when Starlet was sad.
Of course, he'd never admit it to anyone, but he always had a soft spot for her.

(She pauses for a moment in quiet contemplation, then continues.)

Eiren
Milletian... Never forget who and what you are. Never forget why you want to be stronger. If you lose sight of that, well...
...
...You might end up just like me.
I think that's enough of that subject.
Until we meet again, consider what I've told you here today.
Then...

(...............................)

(MISSION END)

(Your return to the real world feels as though you're rising back up from the depths of the ocean. Merlin will want to know you relayed his message.)

Merlin
You told her what I said, right? It seems like you were able to hold the resonance longer than last time.

(You tell Merlin about your conversation with Eiren.)

Merlin
She actually complimented me? I mean, past or present, I've always been pretty great! I'm just glad she's finally acknowledging it.

Starlet
You look like that just made your day! Oh, Merlin's always happy to get Eiren's approval.

Professor J
He's always looked up to her like a big sister.

Merlin
Well, she's always been pretty amazing! There's no better role model than her.

Professor J
That's definitely something we can all agree on.

(It seems Eiren's importance to the group has been understated up to this point.)

Merlin
If she could see us now, I know she'd be proud.

Starlet
Heh.

(Merlin chats animatedly with Starlet while Professor J looks on in amusement.)

(.............................)

(Once Eiren can speak to them again, it'll be wonderful to reunite the Ace heroes.)

[Chain Slash] A Twinkle in Time

There must be some way of controlling the Sluagh! If only I could find it... - Merlin

Merlin
Mm-hm...

Professor J
Merlin, what's bothering you?

Merlin
I'm not sure yet. I'm just thinking...

Starlet
May as well talk it through.
What WERE you thinking about?

Merlin
Eiren always tried to control her power on her own. I can't believe all her effort was for nothing.

Professor J
That's true, but she was so meticulous. I can't imagine she would have missed even the smallest change within herself. She would have made sure sealing herself was her only option.

> Prompt: It will be difficult to control the Sluagh. or There must be a way.

Starlet Why didn't she tell us... or ask for help. She wrote in her journal that, as the nights grew darker, she felt further crushed by the weight of the power within her.

Professor J
You've read her personal journal?

Merlin
...!

(Merlin's expression suddenly brightens with hope.)

Merlin
Starlet, you're a genius!

Starlet
W-What...?

Professor J
What are you talking about? I mean, Starlet's always been brilliant.

Merlin
Eiren's journal! She put everything in that journal... including details of the Sluagh!

Professor J
Then... there might be hope after all!

Merlin
Yes. She must have documented everything she tried.
...
But... where is it?

(Everyone falls into silence as they consider where they might find such an old, lost book...)

Aeira
Well if it isn't (Character Name). What brings you here today? Do you need a book?

(Merlin said Eiren's journal is a big, heavy tome. Maybe Aeira knows where it is? If it's not here, it may be in Tara's Royal Library...)

(You explain to Aeira what Eiren's journal looks like based on Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J's descriptions.)

Aeira
Huh... I-I'm sorry. This is such a strange coincidence. I just recently found a similar book shoved away in the back corner of a bookshelf.

(Could the book really have been that easy to find?)

(Aeira returns after a lot of searching and hands over an old, tattered book.)

Aeira
This might be what you're looking for... It arrived here before I was even born.
It's such an old book. What are the odds that two people would ask for it at the same time?
The last person studied it for quite a while...
They were completely engrossed... muttered over it for hours Then suddenly, they said 'It's done,' handed it back, and took off...
Weird... Anyway, I'll bet this is the one you need. It's too old to sell for any kind of profit, so why don't you just take it?

(Hm, it's got Eiren's name in it. This must be it. You should definitely read this in more detail.)

(Opening the book, you take a moment to read Eiren's Journal.)

[Chain Slash] The Corrupted Memories

So... have you found any clues concerning the item Eiren had? - Merlin

Merlin
(Character Name), you're here! Did you learn anything about the journal?

(You found Eiren's Research Journal at the Dunbarton Bookstore. What should you tell Merlin?)

> Prompt: I did not find anything useful. or I think I found something.

Professor J
You must've found Eiren's journal!

Merlin
What? You found it?! How? What does it say?

Professor J
Since (Character Name) doesn't seem enthused, I would guess it doesn't contain anything useful. If you don't mind, may I take a look as well?

Starlet
There's a silver of hope. We just have to keep searching.

Merlin
Of course! We've learned so much since then! We can do so much more now if we just focus.

Professor J
Between our experience and the journal, we can really accomplish something. (Character Name), Eiren is waiting for you. We'll investigate the journal more. I'm sure she'll be happy that we found it.

Shadow Mission: My Body is a Cage

(You travel back to Peaca and offer the Mystic Pass to the altar. You are now familiar enough with the sealed place to know where to go and what to do next.)

> On-screen Message: Tell Eiren about the journal.

(You make your soul resonate with the crystal that sealed Eiren.)

Player touch crystal
(You close your eyes and place your hand on the crystal.)

(As you gaze at your reflection in the glossy surface of the crystal, you resolve to tell Eiren you found her old journal the next time you talk.)

(...)

Eiren
Uh...
Milletian...?
Uhh...
Hello, I think I'm finally adjusting to waking up like this.

(As Eiren stretches and recovers from her nap, you casually mention that you found her journal.)

Eiren
...!
You found... my journal?
Wow...
That's a development.
Did you read it? Oh, how embarrassing. ...

(Her good mood evaporates, and her expression darkens.)

Eiren
As you've likely learned from my journal, I was once consumed by the Sluagh's darkness. The endless Fomor attacks distracted me. By the time I realized my heart had weakened... it was too late.
...
The other heroes risked their lives so many times for me. It's why I wanted to get stronger as quickly as I possibly could.
Looking back, knowing how unstable I was... I made it so much more dangerous for all of us.

(Eiren pauses, her gaze far away.)

Eiren
I leeched too much Dorcha in too little time, but the Fomors were relentless, I had little choice. The Sluagh became more violent by the day, constantly on the verge of overtaking me.
Once I knew how strong it had become, I went off in search of something to control it. I searched Erinn... the old Desert Ruins... even the deepest dungeons of the Fomor den.
But the Fomors always found me... always attacked... always pushed me to my limits...
In the end...
...

Sluagh take over Eiren
Eiren
What you saw in my memory... That was the moment the Sluagh finally broke free of my control.
It was...
...terrifying.
When I finally regained consciousness, I woke to find my friends scattered around me, broken and battered, barely breathing. I thought we had suffered another Fomor attack.
But it was so much worse than that. Their wounds were caused by the Chain Blade. The people I valued above all else in this world nearly died because of... me.
...
... I just... I still can't forgive myself for it.

(She seems momentarily overwhelmed by sadness.)

Eiren
I spent that whole night deliberating, and I eventually came to a decision.
There was no other solution in sight... the Sluagh was growing ever stronger... my greatest allies were suffering by my own hand.
I had to...

Eiren seals herself with Sluagh
Eiren
I had to seal myself away forever... here... with the Sluagh.
Merlin was so angry with me. They all were. It was hard to convince them at first. But we all knew it was the only option.
I never thought they'd stay and protect me here for all these years.
Sealing myself here was just a way to protect the rest of the world from me, the only way to keep the Sluagh at bay.
Sealed as I was, at least I managed to keep my consciousness intact, which is how I'm able to speak with you now.
My hope is for you to avoid the same fate I have suffered. Don't lose yourself to the Sluagh. Learn everything you can about Bachram. Beat the Sluagh.

(Eiren's deepest fears and regrets, everything she's felt during those long, solitary years spills out of her in a rush. The pain of it is almost too much to bear, and you find youself forced to release the crystal.)

(You've heard all you needed to for now. You can use the crystal again when you're ready for more Chain Blade training from Eiren.)

(Once you feel ready, you make your soul resonate with the crystal once more.)

Eiren
Have you forgotten you have to be fully trained in using Dorcha before you'll be able to use Bachram's power?
Today I'll teach you two new skills. Are you ready?

> Prompt: I am ready! or Not yet...

Eiren
I like your enthusiasm! Well then... close your eyes.

(...)

(Eiren appears before you once again.)

Eiren
...
...
...Oh. You're not so easily surprised anymore, huh?
Well that's too bad. It was fun to throw you off balance.
Today I'll teach you about the Spinning Slasher skill.
The Spinning Slasher is ideal against multiple enemies in close range. It drags enemies toward you for a solid hit that will force them all back simultaneously. If you're overwhelmed by enemies, it gives you space.
When you swing the chain blade, enemies to your right will be pulled toward you and take damage.
But of course, the best way to learn is practical application, right? Why not try Spinning Slasher on those ghosts?
I've already provided you with the Dorcha you need to practice. Keep an eye on how much Dorcha you leech using normal attacks.

(By Eiren's instructions, you practice using Spinning Slasher on the Ghosts.)

> On-screen Message: Let's try a bit more, shall we?

> On-screen Message: That's it! The more enemies within your attack range, the better.

Eiren
Impressive. You're doing well for such a difficult skill.
...
I'm impressed with your progress so far.
Perhaps that can be attributed to your great instructor.
Now I can teach you about Anchor Rush. It allows you to move freely in any direction within a certain distance.
It's an extremely useful skill that utilizes the elasticity of the Chain Blade to escape dangerous situations. You can even use it after you've been stunned by an opponent!
Practice using Anchor Rush to rapidly approach the ghosts and attack them.

(A mischievous smile suddenly spreads across Eiren's face.)

Eiren
I'm going to slow you down just a bit, but I'm sure you can handle a few ghosts. Remember, Anchor Rush is intended to get you from point A to point B... fast. Walk if you must, but make sure you practice. I'll replenish your Dorcha for you again. Now, let's start practicing Anchor Rush.

(Suddenly, you're overcome with a strange sensation, and your body becomes sluggish and slow.)

(As walking around with a sluggish body proves to be a pain, you use Anchor Rush to get from one place to another while fighting the Ghosts.)

> On-screen Message: Now's your chance to attack!

> On-screen Message: That's right! Perfect.

> On-screen Message: Right now! Attack!

> On-screen Message: You did that perfectly... try it again to ingrain it in your memory!

(The strange feeling finally lifts, and Eiren is all smiles.)

Eiren
I bet my little speed adjustment was annoying, eh?
Don't worry, I've already put you back to normal. You know how vital speed is to winning a battle. With Anchor Rush, you can cut right through the chaos.
Go ahead and practice what you've learned. I promise I won't mess with you... this time.

(Using the two new skills you've learned from Eiren, you eliminate the Ghosts present.)

> On-screen Message: Try using the skills you've learned in a real fight, now!

> On-screen Message:Anchor Rush will get you there in a jiffy.

> On-screen Message:Be the cyclone of your enemies' nightmares by using Spinning Slasher!

Eiren
Good job! You've improved immensely!
You'll be able to use Anchor Rush once you leave, but don't use Spinning Slasher until you've practiced more.

> Prompt: Frown.' or Ask where to learn Spinning Slasher.

Eiren Whew. Yet again, I've reached the end of my energy. Let's continue this another day. Shall we get out of here?

(...)

(The air begins to shift and swirl around you.)

Eiren
...
What's happened since I taught you last?
...
I'm worried my old enemies will target you as well. Then again...you have Merlin, Starlet, and J with you. With those three at your side, and the skills I've taught you, you'll be more than a match for whatever they can dish out.
Just be sure that you always stay alert and on guard. The enemy is full of surprises and they'll stop at nothing to sate their desire for the Sluagh's power.
They've even tried to channel the Sluagh's power by filling objects with Dorcha.
Fortunately, they've yet to notice I'm sealed away inside one of their own dungeons. They've never thought to look right under their own noses. Ha!
...
Milletian, you've read my journal, so you already know about Bachram, right?
There must be a way to wield the Chain Blade safely, without letting the Sluagh go on a rampage. However, it isn't easy for me to figure it out, given my current state.

(She's keeping her tone neutral for the most part, but you can hear an echo of desperation.)

Eiren
I'm counting on you, Milletian. Please figure out how to use Bachram.
...
Even if we were to find a way, I won't be as I was before. There's a Sluagh within me, and that makes me different. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
...wow. (Character Name), it sure would be great to hear some good news every now and then...

(Everything blurs together.)

Eiren
At least try to find a clue in the journal. There must be something I overlooked. ... If only there could be an escape from this darkness...

(Her voice sounds so sad.)

[Chain Slash] Re-Engraved Runestone

We must not let Eiren's efforts be in vain. We should use her journal to help her. - Professor J

Professor J
Welcome back, (Character Name). We have good news about the journal.
Even with the extensive deterioration, we were able to salvage a significant amount about Eiren's efforts to stop the Sluagh.

Starlet
The horrible nightmare she mentions near the end must be the moment Eiren lost control of her power...

Merlin
If only we had known...

Professor J
Well, we aren't going to make any progress lamenting past mistakes. Our time is better spent searching for a solution.

Merlin
I know that much... But it's so frustrating knowing that we might have been able to help her after all.

Starlet
You've already done so much, Merlin. I'm sure Eiren appreciates everything.

Celtic Howling Chain Blade
Starlet
Merlin really looked up to Eiren. He made new Chain Blades just for her. He always did want to help, even then.

Merlin
She wanted to control her power flow, and I knew how to attach a special mana Runestone to her weapon! Why shouldn't I have helped where I could.
...
...!
That's it!

Starlet
Why not?! Worth trying!

Merlin
Great job, Starlet! You've solved our problem! We can help Eiren control the Sluagh's power by...

Professor J
Fixing a mana-filled Runestone to her weapon! That always worked for her in the past. The mana from a specially-made Runestone, would help her recover more quickly.

Merlin
...! That's so simple and brilliant! How have we not thought of that before?

Starlet
Merlin...

Merlin
Yes, Starlet?

Starlet
Will you be able to make another Runestone like that?

Merlin
Of course! I have years more experience now! I could make a vastly improved Runestone!

(He's grinning from ear to ear, positively bursting with confidence.)

Professor J
...

Starlet
It's good to see the old you again, Professor J.

Professor J
It feels good.

Starlet
We're going to be just fine, aren't we?

Professor J
We are now!

(This has got to be the happiest you've ever seen them.)

Professor J
Well then, let's start gathering materials for a new Runestone, shall we?

Merlin
Okay, but if we're doing this, let's do it right. Let's get the highest quality Mana Stone we can, so we can store as much mana as possible. Hillwen mines will be our best chance. Eiren used gems before, but we'll want a Mana Stone.

> Prompt: I can get a Mana Stone. or Are you sure you can find a Mana Stone?

(You head back to Tir Chonaill to meet with the Bespectacled boy from before.)

Bespecstacled Boy
Oh? We've met before, haven't we?
Yes... if memory serves, you were the one who helped me with my research. What brings you here?

(Since you can't say anything specific about Eiren, you just say you're looking for high-quality Mana Stones.)

Bespectacled Boy
High-quality, huh? For anyone else, that might be tough, but for me? Getting my hands on some high-quality Mana Stones is easy peasy.
But why would someone like you be in such a rush to get one?

> Prompt: To make a new Runestone for a friend! or Oh, no reason in particular.

Bespectacled Boy
In the course of my research, I've collected several Mana Stones. Since you've helped me withy[sic] my research... I guess I could give you one as thanks.
Be careful, the higher-quality Mana Stones are more fragile.
Tell you what, get me a Holy Water of Lymilark, and I'll purify the best Mana Stone I've got for you.

(You return with a Holy Water of Lymilark, just as the Bespectacled Boy requested.)

Bespectacled Boy
Wow, that didn't take long, did it? Just a moment. Now, you just put this here, then use the Holy Water of Lymilark...

(The bespectacled boy pours the Water of Lymilark over a shining Mana Stone.)

Bespectacled Boy
Done!
Now, I'm off to continue my journey! I'm glad I could help you out before I left!

(He continues speaking through a broad smile.)

Bespectacled Boy
Surely, we'll see each other again, right? I hope so, but... goodbye for now!

(You've obtained a Pure Mana Stone. You deliver it to Merlin.)

Merlin
(Character Name)! Where were you all this time?

(After a brief explanation, you hand the new Mana Stone to a fascinated Merlin.)

Merlin
What's this?! Where in the world did you manage to get such a fantastic stone?
Hm, I suppose that's a discussion for another day. Time for me to work my magic... literally!

(Merlin's eyebrows draw together in focus, and he waves his hand over the stone as if inscribing a rune.)

Starlet
Everyone cares for Eiren so much. It would be wonderful if the Runestone helped...

(When Merlin finally looks up from the stone, his eyes sparkle with excitement.)

Chainslash - Merlin's Runestone.png
Merlin
It's finished! And I took the time to put a little extra pizzazz in it this time, too!
All that's left is to take this to Eiren.

(Merlin hands you the newly made Runestone. You can almost feel the mana and care he put into it.)

[Chain Slash] A Heart Delivered

I put my heart and soul into purifying this Runestone. Please, deliver it to Eiren right away! - Merlin

Merlin
Whew. It's been a while since I've had to make anything that required so much focus. I'm exhausted!

Professor J
Imagine what you could do if you worked that hard all the time!

Merlin
Very funny, Professor! You know I always put the utmost care into everything I do.
It's good to see that's still the case. If the Runestone is as powerful as we hope, she might recover enough strength to remove the seal.

Starlet
We can only hope.
Indeed. She's been alone for too long... The sooner we can help her, the better.
We never had happier times than when Eiren was with us.

> Prompt: How could there be anything but good results? or It is not as easy as you think.

Merlin
Well, let's not get our hopes up just yet. We've got a long way to go. Still, it doesn't hurt to stay positive.

Starlet
Yeah. As long as we keep at it, we'll solve this eventually.

Merlin
(Character Name), this pass will take you to Eiren. Now, hurry and give the Runestone to her.

(You can feel their excitement about seeing Eiren again. Hurry. Go to the Peaca Dungeon altar and give the Runestone to Eiren.)

(You offer the Mystic Pass to the Peaca Dungeon altar. You are then whisked into the sealed place where Eiren lies.)

Shadow Mission: Waltzing with Hope

Starlet
(Character Name)!
Is the Runestone safe and sound? Thank goodness we have someone whose soul can resonate with Eiren's. There would have been no way to deliver the mana to her, otherwise.
While you were with her, we figured out a plan. The next time you visit Eiren, you give her the Runestone.
Of course, you might as well let her teach you more about Dorcha. I can see that's really benefitting you. Just remember to give get the Runestone at the end of the lesson. Then, as long as nothing unexpected happens...

Merlin
Eiren will have all her strength back, all because of my mana!
The seal will be broken! And Eiren will have no choice but to shower me in appreciation! Hehehe.

Professor J ...
I bet if Eiren were here, you would not poke fun like that.

Merlin
What?! That's not true! You don't think I'm taking this seriously? I am taking it seriously, I'm just not scared like the rest of you wimps.

Professor J
Oh, something does. It's right next to you. Too bad that currently, it's sealed...

Merlin
WHAAAAAT!!!!!

Starlet
It's so true. Every time Merlin joked around, Eiren always punished him.

Professor J
Yes, the real reason we need her back is just to keep Merlin in check.
Sounds ideal to me.

Merlin
...
Grr... thank goodness Eiren can't hear any of this.
...
At least, I assume she can't... Can you hear anything when you're in that place with her, (Character Name)?

(Unsure of himself, Merlin looks at me with wavering eyes. You ignore him.)

(Touch the crystal and try to make your soul resonate with Eiren's!)

(You make contact with the crystal.)

Player touch crystal
(Once again, you reach out your hand to touch the crystal's smooth surface.)

(You wonder if you will one day speak to Eiren in the physical world. It seems so foreign, because you're accustomed to the immaterial place you've shared with her via the crystal. Would you miss the resonating of your souls? A cold energy shoots through your body, interrupting your wistful thoughts.)

(...)

Eiren
...
Hmm...
...
...Hi, Milletian. How long was I asleep this time? Goodness. It feels like it's been eons.
Look at Merlin's expression! He looks like the cat that ate the canary.
He always had that expression when he was hiding something from me. I kind of miss it, actually...
Such a strange feeling every time I awaken to your call, Milletian. It's as if I'm slowly rising to the surface after having sunk in a deep, dark ocean.
...
...
But it's [sic] relief to see your face after I break the surface.
...
So last time you said you found my journal. Did anything come of that?

(You tell Eiren about the hypothesis you and the Aces developed based on her journal, then you bring up Merlin's newly crafted Runestone.)

Eiren
Hmm...
I did assume that Merlin would get stronger while I was sealed away. He was born with a special destiny, after all.
...!
Forget what I just said. Merlin prefers to keep that a secret...
Anyway, what you're telling me is that Merlin made another Runestone.
He also contributed to the development of the crystal that keeps me sealed. I analyzed the principles of his first Runestone and modeled mine after it.
I was exhausted, though. You can probably imagine how bad the situation needs to be when someone decides to be sealed away from the entire world. Due to my fatigue, the crystal wasn't as good as it should have been.
But Merlin was able to finish the task.

(A lonely smile forms on her lips...)

Eiren
Oh, Merlin. Incredibly talented. Slightly insufferable. A Runestone full of his mana... that would be huge.
...
And you, Milletian. Even if Merlin crafts a new Runestone, you realize I won't be able to absorb mana from it without your help.
But as long as I can count on you... but absorbing such powerful mana all at once... Even I can't predict what would happen. It's dangerous to absorb mana that's not one's own in the first place.
But it's Merlin. There's no one alive who's better with mana.
And since it's me, I'm sure he tried even harder than usual to make it safe.
Hey, I just thought of something... absorbing the mana will take me a good amount of time, so I should teach you the last few Chain Slash skills before I start.
Isn't that what the cute young Ace hero would do for you?

(...............................?!)

Eiren
Hee, hee. Yes, I know Starlet's taken a shine to you. You're just her type. I know her; I used to live with her twenty-four seven! We were like sisters, even. Do you have someone like that? Someone you know really well, who cares for you?

Eiren
The way they understood each other, even without words. The way that they knew where each others' cracks were, and still treated each other like good eggs. That kind of friendship is rare.
That's what I had with the other Ace heroes. I should've told them that while I was with them.
I should have realized... that you can't laugh and talk with those precious to you forever...
...
Let's not talk about this further. I still have a few more things to teach you, (Character Name). Let's do that, and then I'll take the Runestone.
Shall we jump right into skill training? Are you ready?

> Prompt: I am ready. or Not yet...

Eiren
I don't have much left to teach you, actually.
But that doesn't mean you can slack off, okay? Practice will make a huge difference when it comes to fighting with a Chain Blade.
Now, close your eyes.
(.........................)
Eiren
The skill you're going to learn first is Death Mark. Lovely name, right?
Sometimes you'll want to focus on defeating one particular enemy. That [sic] when you'll want to use Death Mark.
Death Mark makes your attacks on one enemy more damaging, and simultaneously attracts other monsters, who will start to attack their own comrade!
Now try it out for yourself.

(By Eiren's instructions, you try out the Death Mark attack on the nearby Ghosts.)

> On-screen Message: Press F3 to select an enemy with Death Mark, then attack!

> On-screen Message: Death Mark will consume 2 Dorcha. Leech lots of Dorcha and to use Death Mark.

> On-screen Message: You see nearby enemies converging around the mark, right?

Eiren
What do you think? Death Mark is great for when you want to prioritize the elimination of one enemy over all the others.
Like maybe if one of them happens to be your former romantic partner, hehehe! Sorry, it's a bad joke. I know. Do you even have any former romantic partners? Do you date much, (Character Name)? Well, look at me, digressing when I should be teaching you the best skill to use when you've got a bunch of enemies gathered all around the Death Marked one. It's called Chain Sweep. From afar, you lead high into the air and attack with the Chain Blade.
Go try it on those ghosts!

(Using the Chain Sweep skill, you manage to defeat the Ghosts.)

> On-screen Message: Try to defeat the monster by pressing F4 to use Chain Sweep.

> On-screen Message: Let's try a bit more, shall we?

> On-screen Message: That's it! The more enemies within your attack range, the better.

Eiren
Fantastic! Just one pointer... any opponents who come into range during the attack won't be hit. The skill's true intention is to knock down enemies.
I'm tired right now, (Character Name). I think once again I can only teach you one skill this time. It's the Chain Sweep skill. I know you're excited Death Mark, but that one's a bit tricky. Let's save it for later.

> Prompt: I understand. or Where can I learn Death Mark?

Eiren All right, then... Use all the skills you've learned so far to defeat what is about to be summoned...

(You defeat the ghosts.)

(Eiren looks at you with compassion. Your heavy breathing begins to slow.)

Eiren
...
I wish I had met you before I was sealed. We could've done so much more together.
You would've been a better sparring partner than Merlin, that's for sure. And you even got along with the other Aces! It would have been so grand...
...
Very grand.

[Eiren begins to walk over to you.]

(She stands up straighter.)

Eiren
Honestly, when you said that you and the other Aces were looking for a way to unseal me... I was anxious, even though I said I was really happy. But the anxiety was there, yes.
Because, if I accept Merlin's Runestone, I will have greater control over the Sluagh when I'm in here, but it's a whole different matter to control it if the seal is broken.
Something could go wrong, when I'm back out there. I could cause a horrific accident, as I did before.
...
What if I hurt the ones I hold dear? Again?
...
...
...
And then there's you, (Character Name). I wouldn't want you to see those... sides of me.
Hm...
...
To think that the day would come where I'd speak such weakhearted words. I have been sealed up for too long! Ha!

(Eiren cocks an eyebrow at you.)

Eiren
I think we're resonating in a more deeply spiritual way than we ever thought, (Character Name). I can hardly seem to hide my true feelings and insecurities from you. No one out there ever knew that I lived with such anxiety...
...In fact, I hope you'll keep it between you and me. Could you?
...
Thank you. Well, I think I can do this now. ...Will you hand me Merlin's Runestone?

(You nod, and she reaches out her hand.)

(You're nervous to hand it to her, because you know your skin will make contact.)

> Prompt: Hand over the Runestone
Merlin's Runestone
Eiren
Ah... Merlin's talents have not subsided in the least. It's a perfect shape. And the mana inside is extremely powerful, I can feel it.

(Eiren removes a charm from her necklace and replaces it with the Runestone.)

(A bright light flashes from the Runestone! But it's gone in an instant.)

Eiren
...?
What was that?

(Eiren shrugs.)

Eiren
It didn't quite feel like I remembered it would. I don't know if it worked.
Could just be my nerves... Or perhaps Merlin has done something different with the mana.
I... I'm feeling weak from maintaining this space we're in. Do you mind if we take our leave?
(...)
(The air beings to shift and swirl around you.)

Eiren
Um...

(Eiren doesn't look well.)

Eiren
Oh, don't worry about me, (Character Name). I...
Actually... I... I do feel faint.
...
...
You know...
I do wonder, Milletian... why you?
How did the Sluagh enter you... and how did you manage to find me...? Could this, too, be your fate?
There's still so much I don't understand.
...But I will have to ask you later.
...
Yes, you should go. It's clearly sapping my strength, the absorption of this mana. Go and tell Merlin, Starlet, and J not to worry.
Maybe the next time I see you, we'll be able to talk face-to-face.

(You let yourself relax, no longer trying to make your soul resonate with the crystal.)

(You feel yourself returning to the material world. Eiren's face fade away into mist.)

(MISSION END)

Merlin
(Character Name)! What happened? From our standpoint, it just looked like you were standing there with your hand on the crystal. But you saw Eiren, right? You delivered my Runestone?

(You rummage through your bag... Merlin's Runestone is no longer there.)

Professor J
Hmm... I still don't really understand what's going on with the metaphysics of this situation, but I'm glad you gave her the Runestone.

Merlin
Will Eiren wake up soon, now?

Starlet
I don't want anything to go wrong. Nothing's going to go wrong, right? ...Merlin?
Merlin
Of course! Don't worry, Starlet! I made the stone myself! And I endowed it with generous amounts of my own mana.

Starlet
...It's just... I can't believe there's a chance that Eiren could return. I'm so excited! But nervous!

> Prompt: Calm Starlet down or ...

Merlin
We shouldn't bother her while she's undergoing this process.
Oh, I can't wait to tell her about all the things we accomplished while she was gone. And I want to introduce her to that man who makes delicious food... even that guy who cares about nothing but money...

(Merlin rambles on excitedly, regaling all of you with the stories he wants to tell Eiren.)

(You should give Eiren time to absorb the mana and then return.)

Starlet
...
Eiren seemed so tired. Was the mana too much for her in her weakened state?

Professor J
That's very possible. After being asleep for so long, she's likely experiencing shock.

(It's obvious absorbing mana from the Runestone is putting a strain on Eiren. Perhaps she should stop for today.)

> Prompt: She will not fall asleep again, will she? or If it truly is Eiren, she will do well.

Merlin
What's on your mind, (Character Name)?

(Merlin smiles kindly.)

Professor J
Procuring the Mana Stone seems to have taken a lot out of you, (Character Name). Why don't you relax for a while?

Merlin
I think we could all use a break.

Professor J
You may be the only one of us who actually gains energy from hard work, Merlin.

Merlin
I can't help it if I'm just naturally amazing like that.

Starlet
Hah. All right. That's enough bragging for now.
Anyway, Professor J is right. Eiren probably needs time to absorb the mana. Let's rest and wait for Eiren to recover.

Merlin
Great idea, Starlet! Time for a picnic!

Professor J
A picnic wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but we definitely need some relaxation. (Character Name), why don't you join us?

Merlin
We can all go together! We'll be waiting at Tir Chonaill, (Character Name).

(Kicking back with the Ace heroes would be a great way to relax while you wait for Eiren to recover. Why not go to the location Merlin mentioned?)

[Chain Slash] The Bittersweet Memories

We should recognize this as a great triumph! I say we rest, perhaps go on a picnic... let's have some fun while Eiren absorbs the mana! - Starlet

Starlet (Character Name), you're here!
It struck us that you and Eiren both seemed exhausted. And we know the Sluagh's power is... well, incredibly difficult to control. We figured you could use the rest.

Merlin
As always, Starlet, you've got the kindest heart of all of us.
There's one thing every great picnic needs. Do you know what that is, (Character Name)?

> Prompt: A delicious lunch? or A delicious lunch?? or A delicious lunch???

Merlin
Exactly! No picnic is complete without a tasty packed lunch!
That's why I brought someone special! Aren't you excited, (Character Name)?

Starlet
I might just pack my own lunch. I haven't done that in ages.
Lately, I've been making dishes on Imbolic. Someday I'll make a delicious meal that we can all share together!

Merlin
Heh, heh...

(Merlin's face takes on a serious expression.)

Merlin
Starlet? You remember the friend that we always think of when we talk about cooking?

Professor J
There's a time and place for everything. Why not sit down and enjoy a good lunch with friends for now?

Starlet
Hmm... Well, if you all insist. Perhaps next time I'll pack the lunch.

Merlin
I'll look forward to it! But for today, we relax!

(As the three heroes chat with each other, you can sense you're being watched. A covered wagon nearby may be the source of your unease.)

Culinary Artist
Hey there, Mister/Miss Milletian! It's been a while. Boy, Merlin sounded so urgent!

Merlin
I've had quite a lot of work to do lately. All I want now is a spectacular dish!

Professor J
Merlin, that Culinary Artist may need a breather! You've ordered quite a lot! Haha!

Merlin
Huh? I haven't eaten that much. Besides, I've fixed the chef's cart so often, they're happy to cook for me anytime!
My good chef! There is a guest of honor among us. Would you be so kind as to show off your extraordinary culinary talent?

Culinary Artist
The Culinary Artist is the best in the business. It's a treat to create culinary delights when there are empty bellies to fill.

(You can see a happy gleam in the Culinary Artist's eyes.)

(They must have something extra special planned.)

Culinary Artist
So Mister/Miss Milletian! Won't you assist me in creating an excellent dish for your friends here? Gather a few simple ingredients for me, and I'll make a dish none of you will soon forget.

(The Culinary Artist loudly announces the ingredients you need to gather. Hop to it! You can't wait all day to eat!)

(By the Culinary Artist's instructions, you gather five eggs from the hens nearby the church, then return to him.)

Culinary Artist
Goodness! These eggs are so fresh I can practically smell the yolk through the shell! Now you just need to collect the remaining ingredients.

(Looks like the next ingredient is... meat!)

(You obtain a Large Meat, then return to the Culinary Artist.)

Culinary Artist
It's perfectly tender, with just the right amount of marbling!

(The Culinary Artist is clearly overjoyed by the quality of the meat you've procured.)

Wonderful! There's just one final ingredient I need... Chocolate!

(Ew! What could possibly have inspired him to mix meat and chocolate?!)

(And didn't that little boy ask the same thing a while back?)

(Guess you'll just have to get that final ingredient and trust the skills of the professional...)

(You purchase a bag of chocolates and return to give them to the Culinary Artist.)

Culinary Artist
So fast! Thank you, Mister/Miss Milletian! Please, allow me to create a magnificent dish worthy of a legendary cook!

(.....................................)

(Suddenly, the Culinary Artist's arms move in a flurry only a magic caster could match. He wields the kitchen knife like it's an extnsion of his own arm.)

(The aromas of sweet chocolate and sizzling steak immediately start your mouth watering!)

(.....................................)

(In the blink of an eye, a plate appears before you bearing a beautiful cut of steak that glistens with a light chocolate glaze...)

Culinary Artist
Woohoo, Mister/Miss Milletian! With the fresh ingredients you gathered, I was able to create a most masterful dish.

Merlin
(Merlin begins speaking around a mouthful of food.) Theh's righ... Yer elp mae aw theh possibeh...

Professor J
Merlin... I like sea food, but I don't want to see your food. You know what I mean?

Merlin
(He then gulps down the bite he was chewing.) But this food is so amazing! Heavenly!

Culinary Artist
I love nothing more than seeing the faces of those I serve light up with joy as they taste my creations. Mister/Miss Milletian, you should try a bite as well.

(The chocolate-glazed steak seems to be very popular. It must taste absolutely wonderful. Perhaps you should try a bite too...)

(As you take a big bite of the the chocolate-glazed steak, the world around you suddenly turns pitch black. You look up just in time to be greeted with the sight of falling snow. The expression on your face softens as the sensation of pure bliss pulsates through your body.)

> On-screen Message: Ah... I feel the same tingling excitement eating this... as I felt when I was waiting for my date... under the snow, sipping hot chocolate.

(The wonderful taste of the steak still lingers in your mouth.)

Starlet
I see you're enjoying the food as well. I'm glad, it seems to have put some much needed color back into your cheeks.
...
It would be so delightful if Eiren was with us...
Neither the chef nor Treasure Hunter know of Eiren. We may have special powers, but with those powers come our own special problems. For that reason, we try to avoid asking any personal questions.

(Starlet continues with a serious tone.)

Starlet
Still, I'd love for her to meet everyone someday. I hope she recovers and breaks free of the seal soon.

[Chain Slash] The Moon's Shadow

Sorry, but there's something I must tell you. I've tried to ignore it, but my heart demands I let you know that... well, I can't write it here. Can you come by the bookstore? - Aeira

(You head over to the Dunbarton Bookstore to speak to Aeira.)

Aeira
Hello, (Character Name)! I know this is unexpected but... you know how you took that really old book? And remember I said someone else looked at it too?
Well, they returned to see if anyone else had used it. Made some weird comment about how it should be appreciated instead of hidden away in the back.
I know I shouldn't have, but I told them you took it. They seemed really happy... muttered about a 'plan.' It seems kind of shady now that I think about it. Like they meant for you to find the book...

(Aeira scoots her glasses back up and continues.)

Aeira
It was a boy with glasses like me. Sound familiar? Maybe someone you helped before? I figured I should tell you, so here we are. I'm glad you came, I wanted to warn you just in case.

Merlin
(Character Name)! You're just in time. Something's wrong. Wrong, I tell you!

Starlet
Merlin, calm down and explain!

Professor J
(Character Name), while you were gone, we felt another foreboding presence. It came from the direction of Paeca [sic] Dungeon, from within its deepest, darkest depths...

Merlin
Since the Runestone we gave Eiren is filled with my mana, I could sense it. But something's wrong... Something dark has contaminated the mana.

(The Mana Stone you used to create the Runestone was from the bespectacled boy... And Aeira's warning was unsettling.)

(You share what Aeira told you with the other heroes.)

Professor J
Hmm... That's a bit too suspicious to be a coincidence, especially because he asked (Character Name) to study that Runestone.

Starlet
And (Character Name) just happened to meet us, bearing the power of the Sluagh. What is that boy up to...?

Merlin
Hmm...

(Merlin's brows are furrowed so tightly, they look like battling caterpillars.)

Merlin
I... I should have figured it out sooner. Damn! If something happens to her, I'll never forgive myself...

Merlin What the blazes are we waiting for?! We need to make sure she's all right! Let's move!

> Prompt: I will go now. or I need some time to prepare.

Merlin
Let's hurry! (Suddenly, everyone's faces are frozen in fear. Get to Eiren quickly with the pass in Peaca Dungeon.)

Shadow Mission: Broken Seal, Awakened Sluagh

(You offer the Mystic Pass to the Peaca Dungeon altar.)

(You, together with the three Ace heroes, rush into the place where Eiren is sealed within Peaca Dungeon. You all witness a bright light emit from the crystal containing her and are forced to shield your eyes as a result. Once you open your eyes, you notice Eiren freed from the crystal, but panting with exhaustion.)

Eiren
... No, not yet... I don't want freedom yet... It's so terrifying. How will I make my own decisions all by myself?

(Suddenly, multiple robed figures show up and surround her. They break into fighting stances.)

Blue Robed Fomor
Now! We need the Sluagh's power!

Eiren I...I won't let you do this!

(Eiren uses Spinning Slasher to knock the robed Fomors out. Afterwards, you and the others notice her gripping her head in pain. A tear begins to form in one of her eyes.)

Eiren
No... I can't...

Eiren Argh! Ah... Hughhhaaah!

(She continues to groan in pain while you and the Ace heroes can only watch her helplessly. Finally, the darkness of the Sluagh completely overwhelms her, revealing the possessed state of her you once witnessed from the memory in Alby Dungeon.)

Merlin
Wait, that's...

Starlet
Eiren...! How did the crystal's seal break? Was there something wrong with the Runestone?

Merlin
Wait, weren't they the ones that were harrassing us before? Was it a trap...?!

Professor J
First and foremost, we need to calm Eiren down. She looks just like she did before she lost her senses.
Her Fomor blood has awakened... Talking with her will be impossible...
Truthfully, she looks worse than she ever did before.

Merlin
No, it can't be...

Starlet
...Eiren...
(Character Name)! Fight Eiren with your Chain Blade! Help her by taking some of her darkness.

Merlin We'll cover you! We'll make sure both of you are unharmed.

> On- screen Message: Use the Chain Blade to take Eiren's Dorcha!

(With the help of the Aces, you battle Eiren using the various skills she taught you in hopes of calming her down. Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J step back as you make your final strike.)

(The Sluagh-Possessed Eiren's vicious advances on you finally come to a halt. Slowly, she begins to pant. An expression of displeasure appears on her face before she reverts until her normal self. The Ace heroes then surround her, however you begin to feel the darkness of the Sluagh from her taking over you.)

Merlin
(Character Name)! What's wrong?! What is it?

Professor J
It's the Dorcha that (Character Name) took from Eiren... it's too much for (Character Name).

Starlet
Eiren! What are you doing?!

Eiren
...I have an idea. I think I can help (Character Name).
Merlin, help me with this.

(Merlin raises an arm and begins to cast a spell. You are forced to your knees as the druid's magic surrounds you. Meanwhile, Eiren walks over to you, then raises her arms to cast something that causes a bright light to encircle the both of you.)

(Your head is pounding. Everything's quiet... Is this... is this the inner world Eiren created?)

Eiren
...
You are succeeding, so far.

(It's the same place where Eiren taught you skills. You see her, in the corner. She's quietly chanting a spell to herself.)

Eiren
(Character Name)! (Character Name), do you understand, now?! It's me! The Sluagh is just another version of me!
I knew it all along... but I could never tell the other Aces. I couldn't confess to them... that I was the source of all their pain!
...
Even though I knew that Merlin, Starlet, and J would never abandon me, no matter how bad it got. In the end, I... I was a coward, I didn't trust the others' kindness.
...
...
For a long time, I wondered. I wondered what could defeat the Sluagh...
I don't know. Is it the courage to accept your own weak, darkhearted self? Is it a strong heart? Is it faith that the people who love you... do so for who you are, and not in spite of who you are?
(Character Name), don't make my mistake. I hope you understand true friendship better than I.
I believe you can overcome the Sluagh. I have more hope in you than I do myself. I will give you all of my remaining power!

> On-screen Message: And you can use Bachram Boost!

(A cold and unknown power is flowing through your body. Suddenly, you know with certainty that you can bring out the fullest, most terrifying power of the Chain Blade.)

Eiren
Now let's finish this battle with the Sluagh!
I believe in you.
I... will watch over you.

(As Eiren's words fade, a figure appears before you. It looks exactly the same as you, however like the possessed side of Eiren you previously battled, this version of you is the Sluagh that is trying to overtake you. You feel Dorcha surging through you and raise your Chain Blade. Then, using the skills you know, you take down your possessed self.)

> On-screen Message: No, this can't be...

(In the same instant that you defeated your corrupt, possessed self, a cry of rage echoes all around.)

Eiren
AGHHH! C... (Character Name)....!!!!

(Your vision goes dark. You barely hear people calling your name...)

Eiren
(Character Name)...! Snap out of it!

Merlin Eiren! (Character Name)! Are you okay? Answer us!

(The voices grow fainter. You feel your body sink down into nothingness.)

(MISSION END)

[Chain Slash] Rays of Sun

...All this time... life went on without me. It's such a strange, sad feeling to know this. - Eiren

(You groggily open your eyes to see the faint, blurred silhouette of what appears to be Eiren. As your vision becomes clearer, you find that your are lying on the grass outside of Peaca Dungeon with Eiren knelt beside you. The other three Aces rejoice as you both stand up.)

(Eiren is standing in front of me, her features sharp and aquiline. Silky, golden hair flows behind her, and her arms are crossed. It looks like she was waiting for me to wake up. Her one turquoise eye and one violet eye have the same lively sparkle in their depths.)

Eiren
(Character Name), are you awake? I've just been here, star-gazing. ... After all these years, Eweca and Ladeca continue to shine in Erinn's night sky.

(Eiren's face is upturned toward the heavens. After a moment, she sighs and turns to you.)

Eiren
I suppose this is the first time we've actually spoken face-to-face, isn't it?
I have to admit... I prefer this over our previous meetings.
You might have figured this out by now, but those people who broke my seal were the ones who wanted my power so long ago. You see, I had concealed myself for protection, but eventually they tracked me down like the dogs they are.
Thank the gods, Merlin's barrier kept them from entering this area. My only regret is that they decided to corrupt you with the Sluagh's power, so that you would make contact with me and break apart both of the barrier standing in their way.

Merlin
Eiren, I'm sorry... When I felt the Sluagh inside (Character Name), I never suspected that was part of their plan...

Professor J
Just a moment... what about the person who gave (Character Name) the Mana Stone in the first place?

Chainslash - Bespectacled Boy.png
(You recall the bespectacled boy who asserted he was the Runestone's owner. He did seem a bit odd... but could he really be a Fomor?)

Eiren
If he was actually in on it, he obviously didn't count on (Character Name)'s power of Bachram spoiling their plan. You deserve some kudos, (Character Name).
...
...Wait.

(Eiren grabs your hand and stares at you intently. You feel a flicker of her thoughts pass from her hand into yours.)

>Prompt: Keep still and smile or Pull your hand away, flustered or Make a straight faceor Slowly interlock your hands

Eiren
...Okay, I understand.

(She mutters something under her breath, then lets go of your hand.)

Eiren
Well, (Character Name), since I can't resonate with you anymore, I'd say that power has disappeared. In fact, all my powers...

Merlin
What?! Truly, Eiren?

Eiren
Yes, I believe it's because... the Sluagh can't devour any Dorcha to grow strong.
...

Starlet
...Eiren, are you okay?

Eiren
I'd be lying if I said I was completely okay, but...
I feel utterly, utterly free. Power or no power.

Professor J
...You're fine with it?

Eiren ...
I'm just enjoying the feeling of not being beholden to anyone.
And (Character Name)...
You were able to manifest the power of Bachram while you fought with your own possessed self. That's proof that you will not be taken over by the Dorcha, no matter how much of it you take into yourself.
Could it be that my own power that I entrusted to you allowed you to do this?

Starlet That would truly be a silver lining.

(Thanks to the power of Bachram, obtained by fighting with your possessed self, you should be able to use the Chain Blade safely!)

(But what will happen to Eiren....? She lost all her powers.)

(Right now she's busy talking with the other Ace heroes.)

Professor J
Eiren, what will you do now?

Merlin
Yeah, you're going to stay with us, right? Like the good old days.

Eiren
Hmmm...
I don't know. You do realize I have no special powers?

Merlin
Yeah, w-we know that, but...

Starlet
Even if you've lost your powers, we're still friends.

Eiren
Of course, Starlet. You're all the dearest friends anyone could have.

Merlin
Exactly! So, just like the good old days, let's.....

Eiren
We are friends, but I can no longer be an Ace.
I know you all remember and hold this fact close to your hearts... that the[sic] being an Ace comes with the obligation to live as nobly as the title. The way I am now... I cannot fulfill this requirement. ...
Especially in regards to you, Merlin. You have yet to meet your special someone... I do not want to be an obstacle along that path.

Merlin
...
Eiren is right. She cannot remain an Ace. But...

Eiren
You're free to contact me anytime you wish, little Merlin.

Merlin
Little?!

Starlet
Ha ha! You really haven't changed. I'm grateful we had this moment before I go.

Professor J
But Eiren, won't you stay a little while? Not as an Ace, but...

(For the first time since you've met him, Professor J's stern, serious face softens.)

Professor J
Not as an Ace, but as a friend. So that we may talk about the things that happened while you were sealed, and to introduce you to our many friends.

Eiren Oh, those friends that I saw when (Character Name)'s soul resonated with mine?
The friend who talked too much, or the one obsessed with money?

Merlin
...sorry. You'd think I'd be less judgemental after so many years. Ha ha.

Eiren
Well...
I couldn't ask for better people to guide me in my second chance at life.
... And so, (Character Name)...

(She turns toward me, her golden hair fluttering in the wind. Her eyes shine, and you can't tell whether they are filled with sadness or gratitude. Perhaps it is both.)

Eiren
We must say our final good-byes.
Um... yes. Well, I don't mean to be so trite, and of course I'm shy, but...

(She comes nearer to you, and whispers something only you can hear.)

Thank you, (Character Name). You rescued me from the depths of darkness, where I was alone. When I heard your voice... I felt alive again.

Eiren
I'll always remember you.

(Her low voice brims with kindness. You can hardly believe that she had a Sluagh... like the one you can feel within you now.)
