Talk to Duncan

Duncan

Hey CharacterName, I came across something odd, and I was wondering if you might know anything about it.

  • Continue

(Duncan takes something out of his pocket and hands it to you.)

  • Continue

Engraved Runestone (from Duncan)

What is it? It looks like that stone embedded in your Chain Blade...

  • Continue

A Runestone? You don't say...I took it from the town's lost and found...
It was a moment of weakness, okay?! It looks so expensive, I couldn't resist...
But then I felt guilty, so I've decided to try to find its real owner...
Maybe you could help me?

  • Continue

(Hm... You figure that the church would be a good place to start such a search.
There will be lots of busybody churchgoers who are likely to notice when someone owns an expensive item.)

Talk to Endelyon at the Church

Endelyon

Hi there, CharacterName. Anything I can help you with?

  • Continue

(You show her the Runestone Duncan gave you.)

  • Continue

Endelyon

Oh, how lovely! Look how elaborate the engravings are... the person who lost this must be devastated.

  • Continue

Hm... I was just at the Magic School donating some Holy Water of Lymilark.
I overheard talk of Mana Stones; it sounded like someone was doing deep research about them.
Maybe the engraved stone you showed me is one of those!

  • Continue

Why don't you go to the school and ask about it?
The teacher of Tir Chonaill Magic School is Lassar.

  • End Conversation

Talk to Lassar at the Magic School

Lassar

Hello, CharacterName!
What's your business?

  • Continue

(You show her the Runestone from Duncan.)

  • Continue

Lassar

Hm, this is a Runestone containing very powerful mana!

  • Continue

What you heard from Endelyon is correct.
We do have a resident researcher here right now, and his area of expertise is magical geology, so he probably knows a lot about both Runestones and Mana Stones!

  • Continue

I think he's taking a break at the back of the school at the very moment, actually.
Go and talk to him. He's wearing glasses.

  • End Conversation

Talk to the Bespectacled Boy

(A strange bespectacled boy in blue is standing in the Magic School's yard.
He must be the boy Lassar mentioned, the one researching Mana Stones and Runestones.)

  • Continue

Bespectacled Boy

Hmm... Yes... So that would mean...

  • Continue

(He's so deep in thought, he doesn't even notice you approaching.)

[Choice Fork]

  • Poke him.
  • Stare, mouth agape.
    • Note: Both responses will lead to the same result.

Bespectacled Boy

Ahhhh!!

  • Continue

(In his fright, the boy nearly knocks his glasses off.)

  • Continue

Bespectacled Boy

What was that for?!
Are you trying to give me a heart attack?! Yeesh!

  • Abruptly shove the Runestone under his nose.

Engraved Runestone (from Bespectacled Boy)

(His eyes grow wide as saucers the moment he notices the Runestone, and he stares at you incredulously.)

  • Continue

Bespectacled Boy

Wh-where did you find my Runestone?
I didn't think I'd ever see it again.

  • Continue

You see, I'm a Mana Stone research specialist.
This stone was of particular interest to me, because it contains someone's personal memories!

  • Continue

I was researching how such a small Runestone could hold such powerful mana and decided the best way to do it would be to visit Alby Dungeon to see the memories for myself.

  • Continue

But... well... I'm a terrible adventurer.
I had to leave the Runestone behind.
I barely escaped with my life!

  • Continue

(He looks up at you with mournful eyes.)

  • Continue

Bespectacled Boy

You're CharacterName, right? You seem much stronger than me. Maybe...
YOU could go to Alby Dungeon to investigate the story behind this Runestone instead!

  • Continue

There must be a reason you ended up with this Runestone instead of me!
You never know. The memory could be from someone strong like you!
What do you say? You're more than up to the task!

Investigate the Runestone in Alby Dungeon

[You offer the Runestone to the Alby Dungeon altar. Then, you are whisked into the memory contained within.]

(A woman with long, silky blond hair stands before you.
Is she the original owner of the Runestone?
Only the memory can reveal that information.)

  • Continue

Eiren

Hm...

  • Continue

Quickly! If I don't find a clue now, it'll be too late.

  • Continue

Wait... This is...

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

It's trying to lure other monsters to me.
I don't have time for this! Time to get mean.

  • Continue

[The mysterious woman vanquishes all of the incoming monsters with her Chain Blade.]

Eiren

To be a successful Chain Slasher, you'll need to constantly evaluate how much Dorcha you can leech with each normal Chain Blade attack.
That's the fundamental thing.

  • Continue

Professor J is waiting for us.
Let's defeat the rest and get out of here.

  • Continue

[She continues fight her way through hordes of monsters.]

Eiren

That was disgraceful.
You were clearly not prepared to face me.

  • Continue

How do they find me when I'm investigating?
And why do they always attack me?

  • Continue

[Cutscene]

[With impressive skill, she takes down several Giant Gold Spiders.]

Eiren

I'm so sick of these Fomors.
But what can we do to stop them when we don't have a single lead? I can't even find any clues in this area.

  • Continue

[Just then, Starlet, Merlin, and Professor J enter the dungeon room to address the mysterious woman.]

Merlin

You've covered so much ground already.
How is it going? Find anything?

  • Continue

[The three Ace heroes walk over to the mysterious woman. You then find yourself pulled from the Runestone's memory. You stare down at your hands and become enveloped in a strange, dark aura. After it disappears, you raise both of your hands again, this time one by one, and observe them carefully before ultimately deciding to leave. A mysterious robed figure enters the scene upon your departure.]

???

Hehehe... all according to plan.

[End of Cutscene]

Talk to the Bespectacled Boy

Bespectacled Boy

How was your trip...?
What memories did you see? And whose were they?!

  • Continue

(The runestone is gone!
Your head is still spinning like a top, but you describe what you saw. The boy's eyes light with excitement the more you talk.)

  • Continue

Bespectacled Boy

You saw a strange woman, did you? And she was powerful...
That explains the weird mana I was sensing.

  • Continue

It's really too bad I couldn't experience that memory personally.
I need a lot more information. But there's no sense crying over a vanished Runestone, I suppose.

  • Continue

Well, thanks anyway, CharacterName! You were more useful than I expected.
I've been interested in that Runestone's story for quite a while.

  • Continue

Bespectacled Boy

Tell Chief Duncan I recovered the item without a hitch.
It wasn't the Runestone that was important anyway; I needed the tale wrapped within the mana.

  • End Conversation

Onscreen message: The information this boy's telling you could prove to be valuable. Try to remember it!

Talk to Duncan

Duncan

So you found the owner of the Runestone?
Did you give it back?

[Choice Fork]

  • You gave it to the owner.
  • You did not find the owner, but...

  • You did not find the owner, but...

(You try to explain to Duncan about the Runestone, how you didn't actually give it back...)

  • Continue

Onscreen Message: ...That's not what I was expecting to hear from you.

Duncan

So the Runestone was a cipher for memories? Interesting.
Well, I hope the owner wasn't angry with you! Ha, ha!

  • Continue

(....?!)

  • Continue

(What were you thinking? Are you too tired to even think clearly?)

  • End Conversation

Duncan

CharacterName, you…

  • Continue

(Duncan looks at you, biting his lip with nervousness.)

  • Continue

Duncan

There's something I've been wanting to ask you...
Is everything okay?
I don't mean to offend, but there's something off about you. Something... I don't know... creepy.

  • Continue

(Now that he mentions it, you DID hear that weird voice inside your head a short while ago.
But you don't want to talk about it.)

  • Continue

Duncan

I'm worried about you.
Keep your friends close and don't be afraid to ask for help, okay?

  • Continue

(You strain to remember... did you start hearing voices after seeing the memory in Alby Dungeon?
Maybe you should look for the people you saw back then...)

Talk to Merlin near the Tir Chonaill Farmland

Merlin

Hey, CharacterName! What are you doing here?
We're on a picnic!

  • Continue

Professor J

Starlet and I can speak for ourselves, thanks!

  • Continue

Merlin

But... Professor! Isn't my work far more important than someone investigating purely based on a hunch?

  • Continue

Starlet

Merlin.

  • Continue

Merlin

  • Continue

Starlet

Merlin?

  • Continue

Merlin

...

  • Continue

Ugh, fine. Nevermind.

  • Continue

Professor J

I know it's a shot in the dark, but it's too important to give up hope.

  • Continue

Merlin

I know!
I'm just frustrated.

  • Continue

(Maybe you should come back after they've worked this out.)

  • End Conversation

Talk to Starlet

Starlet

Sorry, CharacterName. What's going on?

  • Continue

(While Merlin and Professor J discuss things, you tell Starlet about the woman at Alby Dungeon.)

  • Continue

Starlet

(She immediately gives you a startled look.)

  • Continue

...How do you know about that?

  • Continue

(You realize even Merlin and Professor J have gone silent.)

  • Continue

Starlet

What you saw wasn't a dream or an illusion.
It was something that really happened.
But it was a long time ago…

  • Continue

How were you able to see it?
I think our research is somehow connected to what you experienced.

  • Continue

Merlin

Starlet, don't drag CharacterName into this.
It's our problem.

  • Continue

Professor J

  • Continue

Not anymore. Can't you feel CharacterName's energy?
It's exactly the same as what we're looking for.

  • Similar energy...?

Merlin

Professor, what's all this nonsense?

  • Continue

Did you already forget how we got to this point?
We had to prevent exposing its existence.

  • Continue

It makes no sense.
How can you sense it from CharacterName?
There's just no way for that to be true.

  • Continue

...?

  • Continue

...What?

  • Continue

(Merlin's expression quickly turns to one of shock when he looks at you.)

  • Continue

Merlin

CharacterName... What happened to you?
Why DO I sense the Sluagh's energy on you?

  • The Sluagh...?

Onscreen message: Hm... I've not met anyone powerful enough to detect me in quite some time...

Professor J

You only just noticed, Merlin?
CharacterName, how did you get that thing stuck on you?

  • Continue

Merlin

You aren't really going to grow that thing, are you?

[Choice Fork]

  • What do you mean?
  • What? You can grow the Sluagh?

  • What do you mean?

Professor J

CharacterName, I don't know how... but something's taken hold of you.
Some kind of... dark energy.

Merlin

Take this.

  • Continue

I can definitely feel the Sluagh's energy in you.
But I truly don't know how it's happened.

  • Continue

If you place this on the Alby Dungeon altar, you'll see for yourself what happens to those bound to the Sluagh.

  • Continue

Starlet

Merlin…

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Merlin has his reasons. Just trust him.
You'll understand once you return.

  • Continue

(It seems the only way forward is to visit Alby Dungeon again.)

Investigate the old tassel in Alby Dungeon

[You offer the Old Tassel to the Alby Dungeon altar. Then, you are whisked into the memory contained within.]

(The memory melts into another scene.)

  • Continue

Starlet

Unfortunately, that which you seek is not here.

  • Continue

Eiren

...I see.
I'm sorry for sending you on a fool's errand again, Starlet.

  • Continue

Starlet

It's fine.
This is obviously very important to you.

  • Continue

And after all, we're comrades, are we not?

  • Continue

Eiren

Hmmm.

  • Continue

...Thank you, always.

  • Continue

Starlet

Should we go back?
I think the other two already left.

  • Continue

Eiren

(Sometimes, Starlet is surprisingly mature for her age.)

  • Continue

  • Continue

Heh.

  • Continue

Onscreen message: Ha... haha...

Eiren

(Is it going to happen again...?)

  • Continue

(You shouldn't dwell on that question.
For now, you should just follow Starlet.)

  • Continue

Onscreen message: The Fomor blood in your veins...Thinking about that keeps me awake at night.

Eiren Ah…

  • Continue

Sluagh take over Eiren

(No, you won't let it control you...)

  • Continue

Onscreen message: Give up, already. Let your true desires take over.

Eiren

My...

  • Continue

(It's trying to... consume your soul.)

  • Continue

(No... Starlet is with me...)

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Hmm…

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Starlet

Eiren, let's get out of here. You're not going to find it.
...Eiren?

  • Continue

Wait... what's wrong?

  • Continue

  • Continue

...Eiren? Can you hear me?

  • Continue

[The memory reveals a room in Alby Dungeon, where Starlet and a possessed Eiren stand.]

Onscreen message: Noisy and annoying... Get rid of that woman.

[After a bit of a scuffle, Eiren defeats Starlet.]

Onscreen Message: (Starlet! Oh, no, what are you doing?!)

[Just then, Merlin and Professor J show up.]

Starlet

Uh, um…

  • Continue

Merlin

Starlet!!!!!!!!!

  • Continue

(Merlin and Professor J are sprinting toward you from the entrance.)

  • Continue

Merlin

Eiren, what are you doing?!

  • Continue

Eiren

  • Continue

Starlet

Merlin. No, that's not... That's not Eiren!

  • Continue

Professor J

Starlet, are you alright? Are you hurt?
Stay back!
Merlin and I will put a stop to this.

  • Continue

Onscreen message: (If only you had better control of the Sluagh...)

[Merlin and Professor J engage Eiren.]

Onscreen message: (All the suffering... you realize it is all your fault.)

[The two Aces try to hold Eiren off, however she defeats them.]

Eiren

...

  • Continue

Merlin

Eiren... Please. It's too much.
I don't want to hurt you!

  • Continue

Professor J

We must find a way to calm her, or she will be completely taken over by the Sluagh!

  • Continue

Eiren

...

  • Continue

Onscreen message: (You wish, not for the first time, that you weren't half-Fomor.[sic]What use is your power in a situation like this?)

Merlin

I know!
Come on, Eiren! Wake up!

  • Continue

Professor J

Maybe it was all of the Fomor attacks.
Or maybe this was their plan all along.

  • Continue

It was our fault. If only I had noticed sooner.

  • Continue

Starlet

Eiren...
Did anyone hear that?
I thought I heard something earlier...

  • Continue

Eiren

...

  • Continue

Onscreen message: (You need Bachram's power.)

Starlet

She's saying something, but...
I can't understand.

  • Continue

Merlin

Is that the Sluagh?
It's[sic] must be controlling Eiren.

  • Continue

Starlet! Professor! Try to calm that thing down.
We're all in serious danger right now!

  • Continue

Professor J

You're right. We need to revert her to her original form at all costs.

  • Continue

Merlin

This is too dangerous.
How can we possibly succeed?

  • Continue

Starlet

...Eiren...

  • Continue

Eiren

...

  • Continue

Onscreen message: (...sorry...)

(Suddenly, you're surrounded by darkness.
This must be the end of the memory.
You should see what Merlin has to say about this.)

  • End Conversation

Talk to Merlin

Merlin

...

  • Continue

...I see. so you saw it.

  • Continue

Her name is Eiren. Long ago, she was one of us.
She was a Chain Slasher who drew power from a spirit called the Sluagh that was bound to her.

  • Continue

But the Sluagh was challenging to control...
...even for her.

  • Continue

As you saw, wielding the Sluagh's power is dangerous.
And I can feel that same energy in you.

  • Continue

Professor J

Have you experienced visions lately?
That's the Sluagh's voice. She was the same...

  • Continue

Starlet

Be careful when you use the Sluagh's power.
It's truly a double-edged sword.
The stronger it gets, the more it controls you.

  • Continue

...Eiren always resisted that power.

  • Continue

But even she was eventually swallowed by that darkness...

  • Continue

Merlin

Starlet, it's not your fault.
There's nothing we could have done.
It was so difficult for her...

  • Because she was half Fomor?

Merlin

Wh-what?!

  • Continue

Starlet

...!

  • Continue

Professor J

CharacterName, how did you know Eiren was half Fomor?
We were supposed to be the only ones who knew.

[Choice Fork]

  • The voice of Eiren echoes throughout your mind.
  • The Sluagh voice sounds like it is everywhere at once.

  • The voice of Eiren echoes throughout your mind.

(You carefully explain that you heard her voice in your mind.)

  • Continue

Onscreen message: And what are you thinking?

Professor J

You're hearing more voices than just our own?

  • Continue

Starlet

It was just the three of us, but then... Eiren... changed.
It must have been excruciating for her... her screams...

  • Continue

(The other Ace heroes don't seem to have noticed, but you can clearly understand her.)

  • Continue

(She must have been resisting the Sluagh...)

[Choice Fork]

  • Tuairnan
  • Bachram
  • Tuairen

  • Bachram

Onscreen message: Do not give them any information.

Professor J

...Bachram. I've not heard that word in a while.
You could only know if you really did hear her.

  • Continue

Merlin

How fascinating!
How did you understand her when we couldn't?

  • Continue

Starlet

Perhaps the share energy grants you more insight.
Hm, but how?

  • Continue

Merlin, we already know how to find out.

  • Continue

(As they realization hits them, they nod to each other and begin to approach you.)

  • Continue

Merlin

CharacterName, can you... talk to her as she is now?

  • Continue

Professor J

I know it seems a bit strange to you, but... well...
See for yourself, and you'll understand.

  • Continue

Merlin

This must be the way! I can feel it!
But, I'll have to explain later.
Head to the front of Peaca Dungeon for now.

  • Continue

Professor J

I'll be waiting.

Merlin

You're here. Good.
This is going to be difficult.

  • Continue

Professor J

Merlin, we'd better explain what's going on here.

  • Continue

I'm sorry you had to come all the way out here, but it's the only we can know for sure.

  • Continue

Merlin

The memory you saw... well, after that...
We barely managed to calm her down.
I may be a great mage but, I'm just not experienced with that kind of power.

  • Continue

In the end, Eiren made her decision.
That decision meant we could never speak of her or her power ever again.

  • Continue

Starlet

We tried every option we could think of, but in the end none of us had the knowledge or strength to help her.

  • Continue

Merlin

We can't change the past.

  • Continue

What we need from you is simple, CharacterName.
Go see Eiren directly.
If you could understand her in that memory, then I think you have a shot at helping her now.

[Choice Fork]

  • I am ready.
  • Not yet...

  • I am ready.

Merlin

Here, take this.
I've set up magical barriers in a secret location.
This will get you past them.
Place it on the Peaca Dungeon alter. Now, go!

[When attempting to initiate conversation with either Merlin, Starlet, or Professor J directly after]

(Place the pass of the Peaca Dungeon altar.)

Go to the dark, sealed place in Peaca Dungeon

[You offer the Mystic Pass to the Peaca Dungeon altar.]

[Cutscene]

[You enter the dungeon to see Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J ahead of you. Merlin beckons you to follow them and you are led to a room where Eiren appears to be contained within a crystal. The three Ace heroes look over to you as you step toward it]

[End of Cutscene]

This is a secure space of my own devising.
I've created several contraptions to keep it safe.

Why not take a closer look?)

It's cold to the touch.)

It's so cold you're almost shivering.)

  • Continue

(You jerk your hand back from the crystal, flinching in shock.)

  • Continue

Merlin

What happened? Are you sick?

  • Continue

Starlet

Once you touched the crystal, it started glowing.
Did you have a vision? What did you see?

  • Continue

(A quick glance at the crystal reveals the silhouette of a sleeping woman.
You compose yourself and explain.)

  • Continue

Merlin

...I see.

  • Continue

Eiren's powers come from the Sluagh.
It's why I thought someone with that same power might have a reaction to the crystal.

  • Continue

Professor J

It seems my hypothesis was correct.
Did you get any response from her?
All we could do was watch you.

  • Continue

(Professor J grazes the surface of the crystal with his fingertip, but nothing happens.)

  • Continue

Merlin

It didn't respond to me either.
Eiren created this with her own power, so its mana is entirely different from mine.

  • Continue

Starlet

Hmm...

  • Continue

It seems this crystal only responds to you, CharacterName.

  • Continue

Hm...

  • Continue

Speaking with someone...
...after so long...
It's so strange.

  • Continue

You are...CharacterName.

  • Continue

I have so many questions.
How did you come here?
Why are you able to communicate with me?

  • Continue

And, most importantly... what is your relationship with Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J?

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

...!

  • Continue

...You, you also carry the Sluagh inside you.

  • Continue

But your power is unstable.
You cannot leave it in that state.
It's too dangerous. It could turn on you.

  • Continue

Hm...

  • Continue

Yes, I can explain more later.

  • Continue

If you're friends with Merlin, then you must be worthy of trust.

  • Continue

(Eiren stands before you with her arms crossed casually in front of her.)

  • Continue

...Surprised?

  • Continue

I thought perhaps we could communicate through the Sluagh, but I wasn't expecting this.

  • Continue

I transferred some of my Sluagh's power to you.
Lo and behold... that allowed us to stink deeper into our own minds.
This is how truly evolved creature, like us, communicate.

Fear, depression, rage...
Collectively, they're identified as Dorcha.
The Sluagh draws power from thse emotions to unleash powerful attacks against enemies.

If you deal a normal attack with a Chain Blade, you will leech Dorcha from the struck enemy.

The tradeoff is, if you continue leeching Dorcha, you could eventually be consumed by the Sluagh.

  • Continue

(Her happy expression flickers to one of sadness for just a moment.)

  • Continue

All this time, I thought I was the only one who bore the power of the Sluagh.
It's facisnating to meet another like me.

Dorcha Gauge instruction

Why don't we start with how to get Dorcha?
If you hit an enemy with the Chain Blade, you'll leech the Dorcha you need for more attacks.
Pretty simply right?

  • Continue

The Chain Blade is already in your hand.
But remember, once you leave this resonance, it will disappear.

  • Continue

Onscreen Message: Try leeching 10 Dorcha by attacking monsters.

[You attack the Ghosts in order to gain the necessary Dorcha.]

Onscreen Message: I daresay you have potential... keep going!

(The Runestone acts as a conduit for the Dorcha you leech from the enemies whenever you use the Chain Blade.)

  • Continue

Eiren

Well then, now you know how to leech Dorcha, yes?

  • Continue

Again, Dorcha is built from the enemy's negative energy.
Your body can only handle so much at one time.
Once you reach your limit, you'll need to consume it with a skill.

  • Continue

Celtic Howling Chain Blade

The Runestone embedded in the Chain Blade helps you leech and consume Dorcha and controls the Dorcha's overall flow.
It's imperative thst you not break it.

  • Continue

Now try the Chain Impale skill using Dorcha.
You'll learn the basics of controlling the Sluagh by practicing leeching and consuming Dorcha.

  • Continue

Chain Impale nearby enemies and pierces them right through!

  • Continue

It would be faster if you tried it for yourself.

  • Continue

[You attack the Ghosts that appear in the space and gain Dorcha. Using that Dorcha, you then make use the of Chain Impale skill.]

Onscreen Messages: Excellent!
You have potential, after all!
Practice makes perfect!

Eiren

Hey... you learn pretty quickly.
You already know how to leech Dorcha and placate the Sluagh.

  • Continue

So let's put everything together, now.
And remember, you'll only use Chain Impale after you leech enough Dorcha.

  • Continue

[Using the skills you've learned, you slaughter the Ghosts fidgeting before you.]

Onscreen Messages: Defeat the monster using everything you've learned.
You're doing well, for someone that I had zero expectations for.
You know, you just might be able to overcome the darkness of the Sluagh...
Most people succumb to the Sluagh inhabiting them, but you have shown remarkable control.

Eiren

Not bad. You learn fast!
So tell me, are you the newest member of the Ace heroes?

[Choice Fork]

  • Not really.
  • I wish!

  • Not really.

(Glad to speak with a kindred spirit, so to speak, you explain everything that's transpired up to now.)

She seemes genuinely happy to hear your stories of Erinn.)

Perhaps we can meet again soon?

Eiren

There's not a lot I can do in my sealed state.
Though I'm surprised I have quite so little energy.

  • Continue

Well, you know how to use Dorcha, even if it is only the basics.
That should keep you safe for now.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

There's so much more I want to know, but communicating like this is taxing for me.

  • Continue

Would you please find me again soon?
There's so much more I can teach you about controlling the Sluagh.

  • Continue

Please tell the others about me.

  • Continue

Oh, and one more thing...

  • Continue

Could you ask Merlin if the advice I gave him is working out?
I've always been curious.

  • Continue

Hm... I think I've reached the limits of my ability today.

  • Continue

I never thought I'd speak to anyone again.
It was... refreshing.

  • Continue

(As you release your hold on the crystal, you hear Eiren mutter something unintelligible.)

  • Continue

(When you finally drag yourself back to reality, you can sense that the crystal's power is spent.
You'll have to wait before you can contact Eiren again.

  • Continue

(Talk to Merlin.)

Talk to Merlin

Merlin

How did it go?
Could you hear Eiren's voice?

  • Continue

Ah, but I suppose you can't speak in a sealed state.
Could you feel or hear anything that might be useful?

  • Continue

(As you explain how the power of the Sluagh linked you, Merlin grows more and more skeptical.)

  • Continue

Professor J

That's quite surprising actually.
Are you sure? All we saw was you holding the crystal with your eyes closed.

  • Continue

To think you were able to talk to her...
What did she say?

  • Continue

Merlin

I can only imagined[sic] how trapped she must feel.
If only we could get her out of there.

  • Continue

Starlet

...

  • Continue

How did Eiren look?

  • Continue

(Their concern for Eiren is touching, and you feel compelled to share everything you can with them.)

  • Continue

Merlin

She told you to come back? But...
She doesn't plan to be sealed forever, does she?

  • Continue

Professor J

Sealed as she was for so long, it's surprising she's managed to maintain her calm demeanor.

  • Continue

Everything went according to plan.
She was able to withstand the Sluagh, and maintain her consciousness.

  • Continue

Starlet

And she's returned to sleep since your conversation?
She said the crystal would limit her power.
It must have taken everything she had to speak with you.

  • Continue

But she asked you to return to her, which means you may be able to help free her from the seal!

  • Continue

Merlin

I think you might be right, Starlet!

  • Continue

Professor J

There's no way to know for sure.
But if Eiren asked that of you, then there may be hope for her after all.

  • Continue

And I'm sure she wouldn't want CharacterName to suffer the same fate she did.
That must be why she taught you how to control the Sluagh.

  • Continue

Starlet

Let's go. We can come back the next time we need to talk to Eiren.

  • Continue

There are so many things I wish I could say to Eiren right now.

  • Continue

(Starlet gazes at you with envious eyes.
What happened all those years ago?)

  • Continue

(What was it Eiren wanted to ask Merlin? Oh yeah...)

  • Ask about the advice Merlin got.

Merlin

(Merlin immediately begins coughing and sputtering in surprise.)

  • Continue

W-W-W-W-What Advice?!
I... uh... um...
W-What are you talking about?

  • Continue

(Well, Merlin certainly got flustered in a hurry.
Just what kind of advice was that?)

  • Continue

Starlet

What's wrong, Merlin?
Eiren gave you advice?

  • Continue

Merlin

Uh, yeah! But it's nothing!
Just... How can I put this?

  • Continue

We talked about...
the future of the Aces...
things like that.

  • Continue

Professor J

...

  • Continue

That doesn't seem like nothing.
Let's talk about it later.

  • Continue

Merlin

Anyway, CharacterName...

  • Continue

So you spoke with Eiren after all. There's no other way you could have known...

  • Continue

I guess that was Eiren's way of proving to us that she's really awakened.

  • Continue

(Merlin leans in to speak to you in a confidential whisper.)

  • Continue

Merlin

She didn't... share anything untoward, right?
It's a bit of an embarrassing subject for me.

Eiren with friends

We met Eiren a very long time ago.
She had a powerful but practical approach to everything she did.
We depended on her so much.

  • Continue

Starlet

It didn't matter how many mistakes I made.
Eiren was always at my side helping me.
She was like a big sister I could always depend on.

Professor J

We respected her decision, because we respected her.

Merlin

But maybe now you can help us find another solution.
After all this time, we have another chance!

  • Continue

CharacterName, if you can train with her, you'll be able to control the Sluagh's power.
You'll find Eiren waiting where we sealed her.

[Choice Fork]

  • I will go now.
  • Later.

  • I will go now.

Merlin

Take this.
If you lose it, just talk to me again.

[When attempting to initiate conversation with either Merlin, Starlet, or Professor J directly after]

(Eiren is waiting. Place the pass on the Peaca Dungeon Altar.)

  • End Conversation

Go to the dark, sealed place in Peaca Dungeon

[You offer the Mystic Pass to the Peaca Dungeon altar. As you enter the sealed place where Eiren is resting, you notice Merlin standing by the open doorway leading to the next room, beckoning for you to come speak to him.]

Merlin

CharacterName!
I have to tell you something!

  • Continue

What Eiren told you to ask me about...

  • What was so serious?

(You've never seen Merlin this agitated.)

  • Continue

Merlin

That advice?

  • Continue

Well...

  • Continue

(Merlin makes a show of clearing his throat before continuing.)

  • Continue

Please tell Eiren that... well...
I'm not the scared boy I used to be.

  • Continue

I've learned and grown so much as a person.

  • Continue

I've even become the leader of the Ace heroes!
She doesn't need to worry about me anymore.

  • Continue

(Merlin looks as though a huge weight has been lifted from his shoulders.
Surely Eiren will know what he means.)

  • Continue

I'm glad that's off my chest...
I hate keeping things bottled up inside!

  • Continue

Now please, meet with Eiren again and tell her what I've told you here.

  • Continue

(He then turns around and immediately dashes off.)

  • Continue

[You move into the next room to find the Aces surrounding the crystal that sealed Eiren]

[When talking to Merlin before touching the crystal]

(He winks at you and approaches.)

  • Continue

Merlin

You didn't forget about what I asked, right?
Hurry! Go talk to Eiren.

You came back. Welcome.

Have you adjusted to the Sluagh?
It's a bit tricky, I know, but you're adjusting more quickly than I had anticipated.

  • Continue

Perhaps it's because you're a Milletian.
You said there are more like you?

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Hm, so much has changed since I was sealed away.
And there is so much to learn about the world now.

  • Continue

What's happened to Erinn while I've been gone?
Are Merlin, Starlet, and Professor J doing alright?
And... who are the new members of the Aces?

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Perhaps one day I can break free and see them again.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Until I can break free of the seal, I can only talk to you.
But that's alright. It's the only way to control the Sluagh... the only way to protect the people of Erinn.

  • Continue

Do you know how I was sealed?
I know you got a glimpse of my past.

  • Continue

(She continues calmly.)

  • Continue

It's strange to speak of it after all this time...

  • Continue

You already know that Fomor blood runs through my veins.
You see, one of my parents was a Fomor.

  • Continue

They possessed tremendous power.
It's a wonder all that power didn't have more of an effect on my appearance.
You wouldn't know my heritage by my look.

  • Continue

But it doesn't relieve me of my fate.

  • Continue

(Her calm voice suddenly takes on a dark tone.)

  • Continue

I was born bearing the terrible burden of the Sluagh, a blight that has been with my family for generations.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Eiren with friends

Still... the day I learned to control it.
I wouldn't trade this power for anything.
The strength of the Sluagh is what brought me to them.

  • Continue

Even bickering as often as we did, my best memories are of the Aces.
They were the one bright spot in my life.

  • Continue

(Eiren's expression softens at the memory.)

  • Continue

But, the Fomors seek power, and mine was irresistible to them.

  • Continue

Eiren with friends

I was in an endless struggle against them.

  • Continue

But no matter how skilled and powerful I was, there was always a limit to how much I could do.

  • Continue

The Fomors grew more persistent with each passing day, their numbers ever increasing, always attacking.
Some days, it was all we could do to keep them at bay.

  • Continue

The more I think about it, the more certain I become.
They weren't just attacking me and the Aces.

  • Continue

They were testing my physical and mental limits.
They never stopped trying to push me past my breaking point.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

I'm sorry. I can't keep talking about this. It pains me to remember.
On the outside I may look sealed here, but inside of me the Sluagh runs rampant, leaving footprints outlined in fire wherever it steps.

  • Continue

(Her voice quavers and she shakes her head.)

  • Continue

We must make absolutely certain that you are well-armed against the Sluagh inside you.
I will teach you another method of controlling it.

  • Continue

There are temporary things we can do now to prevent the Sluagh from taking over your body.
It's a fate I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, so I'll do everything I can to help you.

  • Continue

Being sealed and alone for so long is... challenging.

  • Continue

Hm, you came back.

  • Continue

Now then, are you ready?

[Choice Fork]

  • I am ready.
  • Not yet...

  • I am ready.

Eiren

Let's see if we can't strengthen our resonance this time.
Close your eyes and just... relax.

  • Continue

(...)

  • Continue

Eiren

...Surprised?

  • Continue

Ahaha, sorry. I couldn't resist the chance to surprise you again.

  • Continue

You remember how to leech Dorcha from your enemies and use it to supplement your own skills, right?

  • Continue

Well, sometimesthe situation requires a large amount of Dorcha right away.

  • Continue

In those cases, use the Dorcha Conversion skill.
It can transform HP into Dorcha on the spot.

  • Continue

You're basically feeding large amount of HP to the Sluagh.
But, do that too much, and you may end up worse off than you started.

  • Continue

For practice, I made it so you can only get Dorcha through Dorcha Conversion.
And the monsters you're about to face can only be harmed by Chain Impale.

  • Continue

Practice with Dorcha Conversion by using Chain Impale to attack.
If you need HP, use some potions.

  • Continue

[You practice on the Ghosts using Dorcha Conversion and Chain Impale]

Onscreen Message: Most excellent, most excellent. CharacterName[sic] Let's give it one more go.

Eiren

Good work, CharacterName.
Remember, this skill is really only intended for emergency situations.
Once you're back to reality, you should get used to the Chain Blades before you try using it again.

  • Continue

Now, I think you're ready for a new offensive skill called Chain Crush.

  • Continue

Chain Cruch grapples a distant enemy, swings them up into the air, then crashes them down into the ground.

  • Continue

You barely have to lift a finger to damage your enemies with this one.

  • Continue

I've replenished the health you lost using Dorcha Conversion.
Since your normal attacks leech Dorcha, it will make Chain Crush much more effective.

  • Continue

[You leech Dorcha from the nearby Ghosts and practice using the Chain Crush skill on them.]

Onscreen Messages: You gotta leech some Dorcha to use the skill, you know!
You have potential, after all!

Eiren

Ha ha!

  • Continue

The more I see, the more I'm amazed at how quickly you learn.
I suppose I should expect nothing less from a member of the Ace heroes.

  • Continue

Now it's time to test what you've learned.
Defeat all of the summoned ghosts.
And don't let their adorable looks slow you down.
This is your chance to show off your best moves.

  • Continue

[Using everything Eiren taught you thus far, you proceed to eliminate the Ghosts.]

Onscreen Message: It looks like you've really taken a shine to your shiny new Chain Blade.

Eiren

Hmm...

  • Continue

Your form could use some work, but you ought to be proficient with the Chain Blade in no time.

  • Continue

And that's all I have the energy for today.
There are so many limitations with a sealed body.

  • Continue

We can continue your lessons again soon.

  • Continue

(...)

  • Continue

(The air begins to shift and swirl around you.)

  • Continue

Eiren

If it wasn't for the seal, using this much mana would be easier than breathing.

  • Continue

Nothing we can do about it for now, though.

  • Continue

If I could, I'd teach you everything I know today, but it's better that you improve your form first.
For now, use the Chain Blade to practice Chain Crush, and we can cover more the next time I see you.

[Choice Fork]

  • Nod your head.
  • Ask where to learn Dorcha Conversion.

  • Nod your head.

Eiren

You'll have no problem using Dorcha Conversion once you get better with the Chain Blade.
And, it'll be even better if you master Chain Crush first.

Dorcha is pure darkness and strenghthens the Sluagh's power.
It's the manifestation of the enemy's rage, pain, fear, violence...

  • Continue

It's a darkness that can be found in even the best of us.

  • Continue

And the Sluagh feeds on that darkness.
A powerful, terrible spirit dwells within me.

  • Continue

I used to hate it... I hated what it made me.
The fact that I grew more powerful from the pain and suffering of others sickened me.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

But I learned to live with it and use that power to protect what was good in the world.

What was it Merlin wanted to say to Eiren?)

  • Tell her what Merlin said

(You quickly relay Merlin's message.)

  • Continue

Eiren

Hm...

  • Continue

Merlin said that?

  • Continue

He was always a mischievous little brat.
It seems he's finally grown out of it.
Perhaps Starlet sees the good in him too.

  • Continue

I still remember how upset he got when Starlet was sad.

  • Continue

Of course, he'd never admit it to anyone, but he always had a soft spot for her.

  • Continue

(She pauses for a moment in quiet contemplation, then continues.)

  • Continue

Milletian...

Never forget why you want to be stronger.
If you lose sight of that, well...

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

...You might end up just like me.

I think that's enough of that subject.

  • Continue

Until we meet again, consider what I've told you here today.

  • Continue

Then...

I mean, past or present, I've always been pretty great!
I'm just glad she's finally acknowledging it.

Oh, Merlin's always happy to get Eiren's approval.

There's no better role model than her.

Professor J

That's definitely something we can all agree on.

The endless Fomor attacks distracted me.
By the time I realized my heart had weakened... it was too late.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

The other heroes risked their lives so many times for me.
It's why I wanted to get stronger as quickly as I possibly could.

  • Continue

Looking back, knowing how unstable I was...
I made it so much more dangerous for all of us.

  • Continue

(Eiren pauses, her gaze far away.)

  • Continue

I leeched too much Dorcha in too little time, but the Fomors were relentless, I had little choice.
The Sluagh became more violent by the day, constantly on the verge of overtaking me.

  • Continue

Once I knew how strong it had become, I went off in search of something to control it.
I searched Erinn... the old Desert Ruins... even the deepest dungeons of the Fomor den.

  • Continue

But the Fomors always found me...
always attacked...
always pushed me to my limits...

  • Continue

In the end...

...

  • Continue

Sluagh take over Eiren

What you saw in my memory...
That was the moment the Sluagh finally broke free of my control.

  • Continue

It was...

  • Continue

...terrifying.

  • Continue

When I finally regained consciousness, I woke to find my friends scattered around me, broken and battered, barely breathing.
I thought we had suffered another Fomor attack.

  • Continue

But it was so much worse than that.
Their wounds were caused by the Chain Blade.
The people I valued above all else in this world nearly died because of... me.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

I just... I still can't forgive myself for it.

  • Continue

(She seems momentarily overwhelmed by sadness.)

  • Continue

I spent that whole night deliberating, and I eventually came to a decision.

  • Continue

There was no other solution in sight...
the Sluagh was growing ever stronger...
my greatest allies were suffering by my own hand.

  • Continue

I had to...

  • Continue

Eiren seals herself with Sluagh

I had to seal myself away forever... here... with the Sluagh.

  • Continue

Merlin was so angry with me.
They all were.
It was hard to convince them at first.
But we all knew it was the only option.

  • Continue

I never thought they'd stay and protect me here for all these years.

  • Continue

Sealing myself here was just a way to protect the rest of the world from me, the only way to keep the Sluagh at bay.

  • Continue

Sealed as I was, at least I managed to keep my consciousness intact, which is how I'm able to speak with you now.

  • Continue

My hope is for you to avoid the same fate I have suffered.
Don't lose yourself to the Sluagh[sic]
Learn everything you can about Bachram.
Beat the Sluagh.

  • Continue

(Eiren's deepest fears and regrets, everything she's felt during those long, solitary years spills out of her in a rush.
The pain of it is almost too much to bear, and you find youself forced to release the crystal.)

  • Continue

(You've heard all you needed to for now.
You can use the crystal again when you're ready for more Chain Blade training from Eiren.)

  • End Conversation

[Once you feel ready, you make your soul resonate with the crystal once more.]

Eiren

Have you forgotten you have to be fully trained in using Dorcha before you'll be able to use Bachram's power?

  • Continue

Today I'll teach you two new skills.
Are you ready?

[Choice Fork]

  • I am ready!
  • Not yet...

  • I am ready!

Eiren

I like your enthusiasm!
Well then... close your eyes.

  • Continue

(...)

  • Continue

Eiren

...

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

...Oh. You're not so easily surprised anymore, huh?

  • Continue

Well that's too bad. It was fun to throw you off balance.

  • Continue

Today I'll teach you about the Spinning Slasher skill.

  • Continue

The Spinning Slasher is ideal against multiple enemies in close range.
It drags enemies toward you for a solid hit that will force them all back simultaneously.
If you're overwhelmed by enemies, it gives you space.

  • Continue

When you swing the chain blade[sic], enemies to your right will be pulled toward you and take damage.

  • Continue

But of course, the best way to learn is practical application, right?
Why not try Spinning Slasher on those ghosts?

  • Continue

I've already provided you with the Dorcha you need to practice.
Keep an eye on how much Dorcha you leech using normal attacks.

  • Continue

[By Eiren's instructions, you practice using Spinning Slasher on the Ghosts.]

Onscreen Messages: Let's try a bit more, shall we?
That's it! The more enemies within your attack range, the better.

Eiren

Impressive. You're doing well for such a difficult skill.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

I'm impressed with your progress so far.

  • Continue

Perhaps that can be attributed to your great instructor.

  • Continue

Now I can teach you about Anchor Rush.
It allows you to move freely in any direction within a certain distance.

  • Continue

It's an extremely useful skill that utilizes the elasticity of the Chain Blade to escape dangerous situations.
You can even use it after you've been stunned by an opponent!

  • Continue

Practice using Anchor Rush to rapidly approach the ghosts and attack them.

  • Continue

(A mischievous smile suddenly spreads across Eiren's face.)

  • Continue

I'm going to slow you down just a bit, but I'm sure you can handle a few ghosts.
Remember, Anchor Rush is intended to get you from point A to point B... fast.
Walk if you must, but make sure you practice.

  • Continue

I'll replenish your Dorcha for you again.
Now, let's start practicing Anchor Rush.

  • Continue

(Suddenly, you're overcome with a strange sensation, and your body becomes sluggish and slow.)

  • Continue

[As walking around with a sluggish body proves to be a pain, you use Anchor Rush to get from one place to another while fighting the Ghosts.]

Onscreen Messages: Now's your chance to attack!
That's right! Perfect.
Right now! Attack!
You did that perfectly... try it again to ingrain it in your memory!

(The strange feeling finally lifts, and Eiren is all smiles.)

  • Continue

Eiren

I bet my little speed adjustment was annoying, eh?

  • Continue

Don't worry, I've already put you back to normal.
You know how vital speed is to winning a battle.
With Anchor Rush, you can cut right through the chaos.

  • Continue

Go ahead and practice what you've learned.
I promise I won't mess with you... this time.

  • Continue

[Using the two new skills you've learned from Eiren, you eliminate the Ghosts present.]

Onscreen Messages: Try using the skills you've learned in a real fight, now!
Anchor Rush will get you there in a jiffy.
Be the cyclone of your enemies' nightmares by using Spinning Slasher!

Eiren

Good job! You've improved immensely!

  • Continue

You'll be able to use Anchor Rush once you leave, but don't use Spinning Slasher until you've practiced more.

[Choice Fork]

  • Frown.
  • Ask where to learn Spinning Slasher.

  • Ask where to learn Spinning Slasher.

Eiren

Spinning Slasher requires high competency with the Chain Blade.
You'll need special Dorcha energy if you want to use it in the future.

  • Continue

This seal limits how much I can teach you in one day, but perhaps the oppotunity for you to practice between lessons is better anyway...

  • Continue

Focus on Anchor Rush training.
At the very least, you need to reach rank A to use it effectively, okay?
After that I can teach you more.

  • Continue

Our only problem is that I'm quite at a loss as how to deliver the special Dorcha energy to you while I'm sealed.

  • Continue

(Eiren's expression looks uneasy.
You'll have to find a way to unseal her if you want to learn Spinning Slasher.)

  • Continue

Whew.

  • Continue

Yet again, I've reached the end of my energy.
Let's continue this another day.

  • Continue

Shall we get out of here?

  • Continue

(...)

  • Continue

(The air begins to shift and swirl around you.)

  • Continue

Eiren

What's happened since I taught you last?

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

I'm worried my old enemies will target you as well.
Then again...you have Merlin, Starlet, and J with you.
With those three at your side, and the skills I've taught you, you'll be more than a match for whatever they can dish out.

  • Continue

Just be sure that you always stay alert and on guard.
The enemy is full of surprises and they'll stop at nothing to sate their desire for the Sluagh's power.

  • Continue

They've even tried to channel the Sluagh's power by filling objects with Dorcha.

  • Continue

Fortunately, they've yet to notice I'm sealed away inside one of their own dungeons.
They've never thought to look right under their own noses. Ha!

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Milletian, you've read my journal, so you already know about Bachram, right?

  • Continue

There must be a way to wield the Chain Blade safely, without letting the Sluagh go on a rampage.
However, it isn't easy for me to figure it out, given my current state.

  • Continue

(She's keeping her tone neutral for the most part, but you can hear an echo of desperation.)

  • Continue

I'm counting on you, Milletian.
Please figure out how to use Bachram.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Even if we were to find a way, I won't be as I was before.
There's a Sluagh within me, and that makes me different.
I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

CharacterName, it sure would be great to hear some good news every now and then...

Merlin

Okay, but if we're doing this, let's do it right.
Let's get the highest quality Mana Stone we can, so we can store as much mana as possible.
Hillwen mines will be our best chance.
Eiren used gems before, but we'll want a Mana Stone.

[Choice Fork]

  • I can get a Mana Stone.

Bespectacled Boy

High-quality, huh? For anyone else, that might be tough, but for me?
Getting my hands on some high-quality Mana Stones is easy peasy.

But why would someone like you be in such a rush to get one?

[Choice Fork]

  • To make a new Runestone for a friend!
  • Oh, no reason in particular.

  • To make a new Runestone for a friend!

Eiren

Hmm...

I did assume that Merlin would get stronger while I was sealed away.
He was born with a special destiny, after all.

  • Continue

...!

  • Continue

Forget what I just said.
Merlin prefers to keep that a secret...

  • Continue

Anyway, what you're telling me is that Merlin made another Runestone.

  • Continue

He also contributed to the development of the crystal that keeps me sealed.
I analyzed the principles of his first Runestone and modeled mine after it.

  • Continue

I was exhausted, though.
You can probably imagine how bad the situation needs to be when someone decides to be sealed away from the entire world.
Due to my fatigue, the crystal wasn't as good as it should have been.

  • Continue

But Merlin was able to finish the task.

  • Continue

(A lonely smile forms on her lips...)

  • Continue

Oh, Merlin.
Incredibly talented. Slightly insufferable.
A Runestone full of his mana... that would be huge.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

And you, Milletian.
Even if Merlin crafts a new Runestone, you realize I won't be able to absorb mana from it without your help.

  • Continue

But as long as I can count on you... but absorbing such powerful mana all at once...
Even I can't predict what would happen.
It's dangerous to absorb mana that's not one's own in the first place.

  • Continue

But it's Merlin.
There's no one alive who's better with mana.

  • Continue

And since it's me, I'm sure he tried even harder than usual to make it safe.

Hey, I just thought of something...
absorbing the mana will take me a good amount of time, so I should teach you the last few Chain Slash skills before I start.

That person must be very precious to you.
I sense a lot of passion in your thoughts.

  • Continue

You understand, don't you?
Think back to how you felt when you didn't have that kind of love.
Weren't you envious of those that had it?

  • Continue

[Upon playing as an unmarried character]

  • Note: A married character will also receive this after the previous specific dialogue.

The way they understood each other, even without words.
The way that they knew where each others' cracks were, and still treated each other like good eggs.

I should've told them that while I was with them.

I should have realized... that you can't laugh and talk with those precious to you forever...

Let's not talk about this further.
I still have a few more things to teach you, CharacterName.
Let's do that, and then I'll take the Runestone.

Shall we jump right into skill training? Are you ready?

[Choice Fork]

  • I am ready.

Eiren

Now, close your eyes.

Eiren

The skill you're going to learn first is Death Mark. Lovely name, right?

  • Continue

Sometimes you'll want to focus on defeating one particular enemy.

Death Mark makes your attacks on one enemy more damaging, and simultaneously attracts other monsters, who will start to attack their own comrade!

Now try it out for yourself.

[By Eiren's instructions, you try out the Death Mark attack on the nearby Ghosts.]

Onscreen Messages: Press F3 to select an enemy with Death Mark, then attack!
Death Mark will consume 2 Dorcha.
Leech lots of Dorcha and to use Death Mark.
You see nearby enemies converging around the mark, right?

Eiren

What do you think? Death Mark is great for when you want to prioritize the elimination of one enemy over all the others.

  • Continue

Like maybe if one of them happens to be your former romantic partner, hehehe!
Sorry, it's a bad joke. I know.
Do you even have any former romantic partners? Do you date much, CharacterName?
Well, look at me, digressing when I should be teaching you the best skill to use when you've got a bunch of enemies gathered all around the Death Marked one.
It's called Chain Sweep.
From afar, you lead high into the air and attack with the Chain Blade.

  • Continue

Go try it on those ghosts!

  • Continue

[Using the Chain Sweep skill, you manage to defeat the Ghosts.]

Onscreen Messages: Try to defeat the monster by pressing F4 to use Chain Sweep.
Let's try a bit more, shall we?
That's it! The more enemies within your attack range, the better.

Eiren

Fantastic! Just one pointer... any opponents who come into range during the attack won't be hit.
The skill's true intention is to knock down enemies.

  • Continue

I'm tired right now, CharacterName. I think once again I can only teach you one skill this time.
It's the Chain Sweep skill.
I know you're excited Death Mark, but that one's a bit tricky. Let's save it for later.

[Choice Fork]

  • I understand.
  • Where can I learn Death Mark?

  • Where can I learn Death Mark?

I wish I had met you before I was sealed.
We could've done so much more together.

  • Continue

You would've been a better sparring partner than Merlin, that's for sure.
And you even got along with the other Aces! It would have been so grand...

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Very grand.

  • Continue

[Eiren begins to walk over to you.]

(She stands up straighter.)

  • Continue

Honestly, when you said that you and the other Aces were looking for a way to unseal me...
I was anxious, even though I said I was really happy. But the anxiety was there, yes.

  • Continue

Because, if I accept Merlin's Runestone, I will have greater control over the Sluagh when I'm in here,
but it's a whole different matter to control it if the seal is broken.

  • Continue

Something could go wrong, when I'm back out there.
I could cause a horrific accident, as I did before.

And then there's you, CharacterName.
I wouldn't want you to see those... sides of me.

To think that the day would come where I'd speak such weakhearted words.
I have been sealed up for too long! Ha!

  • Continue

(Eiren cocks an eyebrow at you.)

  • Continue

I think we're resonating in a more deeply spiritual way than we ever thought, CharacterName.
I can hardly seem to hide my true feelings and insecurities from you.
No one out there ever knew that I lived with such anxiety...

  • Continue

...In fact, I hope you'll keep it between you and me.
Could you?

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Thank you. Well, I think I can do this now.
...Will you hand me Merlin's Runestone?

  • Continue

(You nod, and she reaches out her hand.)

  • Continue

(You're nervous to hand it to her, because you know your skin will make contact.)

  • Hand over the Runestone

Eiren

Merlin's Runestone

Ah... Merlin's talents have not subsided in the least.
It's a perfect shape. And the mana inside is extremely powerful, I can feel it.

  • Continue

(Eiren removes a charm from her necklace and replaces it with the Runestone.)

  • Continue

(A bright light flashes from the Runestone! But it's gone in an instant.)

  • Continue

Eiren

...?

  • Continue

What was that?

  • Continue

[Eiren shrugs.]

It didn't quite feel like I remembered it would.
I don't know if it worked.

  • Continue

Could just be my nerves...
Or perhaps Merlin has done something different with the mana.

  • Continue

I... I'm feeling weak from maintaining this space we're in.
Do you mind if we take our leave?

  • Continue

(The air beings to shift and swirl around you.)

Eiren

Um...

(Eiren doesn't look well.)

Oh, don't worry about me, CharacterName.
I...

Actually... I... I do feel faint.

You know...

I do wonder, Milletian... why you?

  • Continue

How did the Sluagh enter you... and how did you manage to find me...?
Could this, too, be your fate?

  • Continue

There's still so much I don't understand.

  • Continue

...But I will have to ask you later.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Yes, you should go. It's clearly sapping my strength, the absorption of this mana.
Go and tell Merlin, Starlet, and J not to worry.

  • Continue

Maybe the next time I see you, we'll be able to talk face-to-face.

  • Continue

(You let yourself relax, no longer trying to make your soul resonate with the crystal.)

Merlin

CharacterName! What happened?

  • Continue

From our standpoint, it just looked like you were standing there with your hand on the crystal.
But you saw Eiren, right? You delivered my Runestone?

  • Continue

(You rummage through your bag... Merlin's Runestone is no longer there.)

  • Continue

Professor J

Hmm... I still don't really understand what's going on with the metaphysics of this situation, but I'm glad you gave her the Runestone.

  • Continue

Merlin

Will Eiren wake up soon, now?

  • Continue

Starlet

I don't want anything to go wrong. Nothing's going to go wrong, right?
...Merlin?

  • Continue

Merlin

Of course! Don't worry, Starlet! I made the stone myself!
And I endowed it with generous amounts of my own mana.

  • Continue

Starlet

...It's just... I can't believe there's a chance that Eiren could return.
I'm so excited! But nervous!

(At hearing this, you recall Eiren's message for the Aces.
You tell Starlet that Eiren doesn't want them to worry.)

  • Continue

Starlet

Well, I can't help it, CharacterName!

  • Continue

Merlin

We shouldn't bother her while she's undergoing this process.

  • Continue

Oh, I can't wait to tell her about all the things we accomplished while she was gone.
And I want to introduce her to that man who makes delicious food...
even that guy who cares about nothing but money...

  • Continue

(Merlin rambles on excitedly, regaling all of you with the stories he wants to tell Eiren.)

Talk to Starlet

Starlet

Eiren seemed so tired.
Was the mana too much for her in her weakened state?

  • Continue

Professor J

That's very possible.
After being asleep for so long, she's likely experiencing shock.

  • Continue

(It's obvious absorbing mana from the Runestone is putting a strain on Eiren.
Perhaps she should stop for today.)

[Choice Fork]

  • She will not fall asleep again, will she?
  • If it truly is Eiren, she will do well.

  • If it truly is Eiren, she will do well.

(Try to stay positive. Eiren is strong. She'll be okay.)

  • Continue

Merlin

What's on your mind, CharacterName?

  • Continue

(Merlin smiles kindly.)

  • Continue

Professor J

Procuring the Mana Stone seems to have taken a lot out of you, CharacterName.
Why don't you relax for a while?

  • Continue

Merlin

I think we could all use a break.

  • Continue

Professor J

You may be the only one of us who actually gains energy from hard work, Merlin.

  • Continue

Merlin

I can't help it if I'm just naturally amazing like that.

  • Continue

Starlet

Hah. All right. That's enough bragging for now.

  • Continue

Anyway, Professor J is right. Eiren probably needs time to absorb the mana.
Let's rest and wait for Eiren to recover.

  • Continue

Merlin

Great idea, Starlet!
Time for a picnic!

  • Continue

Professor J

A picnic wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but we definitely need some relaxation.
CharacterName, why don't you join us?

  • Continue

Merlin

We can all go together!
We'll be waiting at Tir Chonaill, CharacterName.

  • Continue

(Kicking back with the Ace heroes would be a great way to relax while you wait for Eiren to recover.
Why not go to the location Merlin mentioned?)

Well, CharacterName, since I can't resonate with you anymore, I'd say that power has disappeared.
In fact, all my powers...

  • Continue

Merlin

What?! Truly, Eiren?

  • Continue

Eiren

Yes, I believe it's because... the Sluagh can't devour any Dorcha to grow strong.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Starlet

...Eiren, are you okay?

  • Continue

Eiren

I'd be lying if I said I was completely okay, but...

  • Continue

I feel utterly, utterly free.
Power or no power.

  • Continue

Professor J

...You're fine with it?

  • Continue

Eiren

...

  • Continue

I'm just enjoying the feeling of not being beholden to anyone.

  • Continue

And CharacterName...

  • Continue

You were able to manifest the power of Bachram while you fought with your own possessed self.
That's proof that you will not be taken over by the Dorcha, no matter how much of it you take into yourself.

  • Continue

Could it be that my own power that I entrusted to you allowed you to do this?

  • Continue

Starlet

That would truly be a silver lining.

  • Continue

(Thanks to the power of Bachram, obtained by fighting with your possessed self, you should be able to use the Chain Blade safely!)

  • Continue

(But what will happen to Eiren....?
She lost all her powers.)

  • End Conversation

Bid Farewell

(Right now she's busy talking with the other Ace heroes.)

  • Continue

Professor J

Eiren, what will you do now?

  • Continue

Merlin

Yeah, you're going to stay with us, right? Like the good old days.

  • Continue

Eiren

Hmmm...

  • Continue

I don't know. You do realize I have no special powers?

  • Continue

Merlin

Yeah, w-we know that, but...

  • Continue

Starlet

Even if you've lost your powers, we're still friends.

  • Continue

Eiren

Of course, Starlet.
You're all the dearest friends anyone could have.

  • Continue

Merlin

Exactly! So, just like the good old days, let's.....

  • Continue

Eiren

We are friends, but I can no longer be an Ace.

  • Continue

I know you all remember and hold this fact close to your hearts... that the[sic] being an Ace comes with the obligation to live as nobly as the title.
The way I am now... I cannot fulfill this requirement.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

Especially in regards to you, Merlin. You have yet to meet your special someone...
I do not want to be an obstacle along that path.

  • Continue

Merlin

...

  • Continue

Eiren is right.
She cannot remain an Ace. But...

  • Continue

Eiren

You're free to contact me anytime you wish, little Merlin.

  • Continue

Merlin

Little?!

  • Continue

Starlet

Ha ha! You really haven't changed.
I'm grateful we had this moment before I go.

  • Continue

Professor J

But Eiren, won't you stay a little while?
Not as an Ace, but...

  • Continue

(For the first time since you've met him, Professor J's stern, serious face softens.)

  • Continue

Not as an Ace, but as a friend. So that we may talk about the things that happened while you were sealed, and to introduce you to our many friends.

  • Continue

Eiren

Oh, those friends that I saw when CharacterName's soul resonated with mine?

  • Continue

The friend who talked too much, or the one obsessed with money?

  • Continue

Merlin

...sorry.
You'd think I'd be less judgemental after so many years. Ha ha.

  • Continue

Eiren

Well...

  • Continue

I couldn't ask for better people to guide me in my second chance at life.

  • Continue

...

  • Continue

And so, CharacterName...

  • Continue

(She turns toward me, her golden hair fluttering in the wind.
Her eyes shine, and you can't tell whether they are filled with sadness or gratitude.
Perhaps it is both.)

  • Continue

Eiren

We must say our final good-byes.

  • Continue

Um... yes. Well, I don't mean to be so trite, and of course I'm shy, but...

  • Continue

(She comes nearer to you, and whispers something only you can hear.)

  • Continue

Thank you, CharacterName. You rescued me from the depths of darkness, where I was alone.
When I heard your voice... I felt alive again.

  • Continue

I'll always remember you.

  • Continue

(Her low voice brims with kindness.
You can hardly believe that she had a Sluagh... like the one you can feel within you now.)
