Tailoring

Description
When you have a needle and thread, you love decorating your clothes. Cutting and trimming fabric to make clothes can be a good job, but it is a brilliant way of expressing your uniqueness, charm, and creativity. Words cannot express the sense of accomplishment when you have gathered the necessary materials and produced the desired piece of clothing. First, you need a Tailoring Kit and tailoring materials such as Cloth and Finishing Thread. Refer to a Sewing Pattern to make the clothing you want. The necessary materials will vary depending on the Sewing Pattern to be used. Finishing Thread is used for the final needlework. |
Details
- Allows the player to create Cloth-based Clothing, Light Armor, Gloves, Footwear, and Headgear. Please see the Tailored Items List for a list of items that can be created by Tailoring.
- Requires a Tailoring Kit and Sewing Pattern equipped in order to be used.
- It is possible to create items that are of higher quality than those sold by NPCs.
- The items' Durability, Defense, Protection, and set bonus stats may increase depending on how well the player finishes the minigame.
- Items produced will be of a random color.
- When an unfinished item is dropped on the ground, it cannot be picked up by other players; only the creator may pick it back up. If left there, it will disappear after a certain amount of time. Unfinished items can be traded between players.
- Many materials required for Tailoring can be produced by the Weaving skill.
Mini Game
- The game determines the base Quality depending on how well you did in the Tailoring Minigame.
- Starting from 0, any misses in the minigame count as
+15
to a penalty value. - For successful clicks, your distance off in X and Y pixels is counted as
sqrt(x^2 + y^2)
and then added to the penalty value.- For example 2 pixels away on the X-axis and 1 pixel away on the Y-axis would be

Tailoring Quality
- Weapons and Equipment crafted with the Blacksmith, Carpentry, or Tailoring Skills will receive an Item Quality that correlates to additional stats the items can receive.
- For Blacksmith and Tailoring, the game determines the base Quality depending on how well you did in the Skill minigame.
- For Carpentry, the game determines the base Quality randomly based on the Carpentry Skill Rank.
- The Quality then has various possible bonuses added to it.
- Crafting on Monday will provide an additional +3 Production Quality.
- Using certain Titles (i.e. the the Master of Carpentry 1st Title and the who is Known Far and Wide as 2nd Title; the Edern 2nd Title, Crazy Crafter 2nd Title, or Special Luminous Cosmic Milky Way 2nd Title) can increase Quality.
- Using items Enchanted with Product Quality Modifiers (i.e. Steady or Daunting) can increase Quality.
- Using Reforges (i.e. those for Tailoring Kits, Accessories, or Woodworking Planes) can increase Quality.
- Using a respective Production Quality Potion can increase Quality.
- Player-crafted items will receive a Crafter's Signature if Quality is 80 or higher.
- Blacksmith and Tailoring require the Skill Rank to be Rank 9 or higher.
- The Crafter's Signature will show the name of the Character as well as their Skill Rank.
- Set Effect rolls will not count towards a Crafter's Signature; some items will will receive a bonus Set Effect point if Quality is high.
- Some Erg Sacrifice Items require Signed items crafted with Blacksmith or Tailoring.

Obtaining the Skill
- Complete the quest The Basics of Tailoring.

- Equip a Tailoring Kit. They can be purchased under the Tailoring Tab at General Shops in Tir Chonaill (Nora), Dunbarton (Walter), Emain Macha (Galvin), Filia (Granites), or Vales (Zeder) for 200 gold.
Training Method
- To "Achieve a very good result", the pattern must be at least 2 ranks higher than the player's skill rank.
- Successes with patterns 2 ranks or more below the player's skill rank will result in the job being "too easy", and will count as a "The result is a failure" rather than a "Use the skill successfully".
- Dan ranks will receive training as if the skill was rank 1.
- The completed item will still count as "Clothes are finished".
- Regular failures and big failures will count normally.
- Successes with patterns 2 ranks or more below the player's skill rank will result in the job being "too easy", and will count as a "The result is a failure" rather than a "Use the skill successfully".
Tips
- Part-Time Jobs offered by Malcolm, Simon, Ailionoa, Lepus, and Brenda can help ease training as they provide a pattern and its materials.
- Any leftover patterns and materials can still be used.
- Hairbands have an easy recipe that use materials which may be purchased from NPCs. They can be used to fulfill 'Produce clothing.' and 'Fail at using the skill.' requirements at higher ranks.
- Professional Silk Weaving Gloves are another item which is relatively easy to produce. Ingredients can be recovered via Fragmentation. At high tailoring ranks you can often get to 99.9% on one attempt, consuming only 1 Fine Fabric, and at high fragmentation ranks you can often obtain 2 Fine Fabrics on a successful fragmentation, making the materials cost low.
- The 'Get a very bad result.' requirement is randomly acquired only if Tailoring fails the % success rate. Fails specifically due to the manual rank being low do not apply. However, any rank manual has the potential yield this training requirement if it fails normally.
