- Mabinogi means the songs of wandering bards. The songs mostly consist of heroic or legendary stories.
In Erinn, many people discuss and sing Mabinogi. Perhaps there might be a song about you some day.

- (during Second Memoir) From what I can remember, the 'Mabinogi' is an epic saga passed down by the bards. I don't remember whether I ever heard it for myself, though.
Have you ever heard a part of it performed? If you have, play the music for me sometime!

- Did you know there were epic battles fought between humans and the forces of the Evil Fomors many ages ago?
I guess that you are still too preoccupied with wrestling with the creatures in the dungeon to realize how horrific the Fomors were... At that time, they overwhelmed humans in every aspect. No matter how many humans fought with better, more powerful weapons, no matter how hard they fought, they were no match for the sheer power the Fomors displayed. So many people lost their lives fighting against this force. But despite the terrible odds, humans never gave up, and the battle against the Fomors became more intense than ever. Many heroes appeared, and courageously fought against the Fomors, finally defeating them under God's blessing. As a result, humans were able to reclaim their lost lands... Erinn, the world we live in now, was defended with the blood and sacrifices of those herioc warriors. Many bards composed and sang songs about these mighty warriors, and even more people spread them to other lands... That is the song we are talking about today, Mabinogi. It's the song written as a tribute to our brave heroes, and to praise God's blessings...

- You seem fairly interested in Mabinogi. As far as legends about swords and magic are concerned, it is better to learn from word of mouth than from dry books.
As you know, when a story moves on from people to people, it is naturally exaggerated with its original meaning distorted. One of the best ways to keep the original form of a story intact is to preserve it through music. Of course, that doesn't mean that the story is delivered in exactly the same form. But it would be helpful for you to understand Mabinogi this way.

- Mabinogi is a song that wandering bards have sung for many years. It is mostly made of stories of legendary heroes. I believe you must have heard of them before.
The great king, Nuadha who fought against the evil armies even after losing one arm. Or perhaps about Lugh, the God of light, who brought peace back to this world after fighting off the Fomor. Or how about the story about the evil wizard Jabchiel, who sold his soul to the evil creatures.

- Wow, you knew about this? Mabinogi... As a matter of fact, people have different ideas about it depending on where they come from.
In the good old days of mine, I traveled to many different places. I was really surprised seeing how people from different regions talk differently about Mabinogi. Some of them say it is an ancient lullaby with a story in it. Others say it's a song of praise dedicated to the heroes and warriors who build Erinn of this day. And I heard from someone that any song can be Mabinogi as long as it is old and sung by bards. Oh, I am sorry. Am I talking to much? It might have been boring, but I'm just telling you what I heard.

- Hmm... Mabinogi is a song written and sung to praise mighty warriors. It's a song about the story of fearless warriors who fought against the evil Fomors in endless battles a long time ago.
You know, Mabinogi is like a living, breathing creature. It keeps growing and evolving, its contents revised, extended, sung and heard through endless generations. So, who knows? If you become a great warrior yourself, you may someday have a song dedicated to your heroic efforts. People will write and sing about you...

- Mabinogi is a tale of heroes, but it is also the history of bloodshed between humans and the evil Fomors as well as between humans themselves, woven into a worldly tune.
If you keep listening to such songs, one day your soul will become ill and your body will suffer. Lord Lymilark once said this, 'If ye hate someone, your emotions wound not the hated but your souls. Feeling and embracing a wounded soul is a time of great pain however quick it may be. ' I do not deny Mabinogi, but... Please keep this in mind as you listen to it.

- It's an old epic that's been passed down among the bards. It's focused more on multiple, loosely interconnected stories than one single person or event. I've heard that over time, it has changed little by little. New tales are added with every generation, turning it into a chronicle of heroes.
Your own story may well have made its way into the song by now. You never know! Since you've accomplished many deeds of renown, I wouldn't be surprised.

- There are many different ways to pass on knowledge about one's life experiences from one generation to another. The most effective way of all would be through tales indeed.
...As short stories are aligned against each other in some kind of order, everything begins to gain significance and start to mean something. Older generations pass down their life experiences to the following generations in this way. People who have listened to these stories, added their own experiences and then passed it on again to the next generation... There are many people who overlook the effectiveness of such old tales as an educational tool, and my guess is that they'd never heard any bedtime stories when they were young and growing up... Hahaha... ...Am I boring you to death? Well, anyways, still, old tales are for kids. if you are an adult and still hold on to these kinds of stories then perhaps that is a problem, don't you think?

Of course, anyone who became a hero by battling against the Fomors needs to be commended for the sacrifices the hero has made, but among those heroe, are some who have had their hands in a secret, silent feud against Humans... and that worries me...

- It's a song that recounts the deeds of countless heroes. Its many interwoven stories describe delights and heartbreak in equal measure, and the many places touched by the lives of those whose tales were chronicled therein.
I sometimes would sing parts of it to my daughter when I laid her down to sleep, but she never seemed to have any particular like or dislike of it. I did tend to throw in my own dramatic flourishes, though, so perhaps that had something to do with it. Honestly, one of the things I hold the greatest distaste for in this world is the penchant some have to string along the desperate with absurd stories and tall tales.

- It refers to old stories of heroes, passed down from ancient times. I bet a lot of them were written by bards.

- Oh, I've heard about that. It's a song celebrating the feats of Erinn's heroes. That stuff's all in the past though, right? I've always felt that the here and now is more important than things that happened long ago.
Still, I'll bet that someone will pass on your tales in a story or song someday. Maybe if I become a renowned merchant, they'll at least mention me as a recurring side character...

- Mabinogi, by definition, is a series of songs about legends of this world. It transcended from time beyond even my memory. ...However, only a few of those songs are remaining.
Nowadays, a few songs are claimed to be from Mabinogi, but I think those songs aren't from Mabinogi...I don't think they are original songs However, in my opinion, those songs can be called as Mabinogi one day. Player. Your songs can be Mabinogi, too...

Oh, I just wanted to tell you that the original meaning of 'Mabinogi' is a song about Human stories.... I wonder what everybody else thinks about Mabinogi... Can you help me on this, CharacterName?

- Bards of the past travelled through battlefields and sang about the ones who fell. Those became the original legends...
It's funny, in a way, that death inspired so many beautiful songs. Well, people tell me they're beautiful. It's not like I care for music at all.
